    On 8/7/21 I met with Juan, the owner of Pura Vida Tropical Gardens, LLC. We discussed relandscaping the entire yard. the price was $15,000.00. He said when I sent the deposit of half ($7500.00) I would be put on the schedule which was about 4 weeks out. On August 9, 2021 I sent him check ***** in the amount of $7500.00. The check was posted 8/12/2021. Juan at Pura Vida has taken my money without doing the work for more than 4 months now. We kept in contact on a weekly basis by text and he kept reassuring me that he would start work soon. He never showed to start the work. I wouldn't know what happened until I contacted him. We met again in person 10/11/2021 to go over details since he said he would be starting on October 18 or 25. On Monday Nov. 29, in a text he stated he would be there the next Monday, December 6. He did not show Dec. 6 and there was no explanation until I contacted him by text which he said he will be there now on Monday December 13. This is the same thing he has been saying almost on a weekly basis. I do not believe him anymore. I asked for a refund of my deposit. He said it would be 45 days to get my money back, but he will definitely be there on Monday Dec. 13 or I could void the contract. I told him I will give him until Monday Dec. 13 to start the job or pay me $3500 on Monday Dec. 13 and the remaining deposit by 12/31/2021. I told him that I want the job completed in 3 weeks. I am concerned that he would rip out the existing landscaping and then not finish the job and there would be dirt in my yard until he feels like getting to it. Please help me to get my money back by December 31, 2021. I really would prefer to get my money back because all trust is broken. I have photos of text messages if you need them. I am at my wits end with this company that has been holding my $7000 interest free for months. I have asked for a refund multiple times.

    Facts about my experience for our backyard project with Pura Vida Tropical Gardens. The project was completed mid December 2021. Juan was great to work with initially, he suggested the design and plants. We went with 6 coconut palms, 6 christmas palms, 6 eureka palms, elephant ears, a variety of bromeliads and some other design effects. The coconut palms were the main event for sure. He also guaranteed the palms he was using for 1 year, this was an important detail for us. We agreed on the design and the plant selection, I had some special plant requests and he was able to locate them. When they finished our back yard it looked amazing. Within 2 months (February 2022) one of the coconut palms began to die. I reached out to Juan to see when he would be replacing the palm, he responded quickly and said two weeks. After 3 weeks I communicated again, he responded saying he was having labor problems but would be there as soon as possible. Then I noticed another coconut palm beginning to die (April 2022). I reached out asking when he would be replacing and he said he would be here with replacement in 2 weeks. After a month I reached out and he said I haven't forgotten you, I will be there. Then by August a 3rd coconut palm began to die. I reached out and he said he would come by and take a look. He came by and looked at the coconut palms. Still no replacement. To be clear it was only the coconut palms that we had problems with, all of the other palms and plants are growing and doing well. It has been almost a year since our landscape project was completed. We have had 3 of 6 coconut palms die which were the main event in our backyard. Pura Vida guaranteed these palm trees for 1 year but when it came down to replacing the dead trees they did not honor their word. I have since had the dead coconut palms professionally removed by a different company. It was very frustrating to get the run around about these trees for 9 months without any action taken.

    Our experience for our backyard project with Pura Vida Tropical Gardens. The project was completed mid December 2021. Juan was great to work with, he suggested the design and plants. We went with 6 coconut palms, 6 christmas palms, 6 eureka palms, elephant ears, a variety of bromeliads and some other design effects. The coconut palms were the main event for sure. He also guaranteed the palms he was using for 1 year, this was an important detail for us. We agreed on the design and the plant selection, I had some special plant requests and he was able to locate them. When they finished our back yard it looked amazing. We were very excited with the results. They did say they were going to fix all of the sprinklers and adjust them. In the end I had to make many modifications to the sprinkler system to get full coverage to the plants. They also killed half of our st augustine grass in the back with their tractor without replacement. They offered to replace it for $300 but I declined.


    We had 3 coconut palms die within the first 9 months. I reached out to him while this was happening. It was frustrating that they did not replace the palms right away. However, in the end Pura Vida replaced the palms with large double christmas palms and did additional trim work at no charge. To be clear it was only the coconut palms that we had problems with, all of the other palms and plants are growing and doing well. We are happy with the overall job that Pura Vida provided us and our back yard looks like Costa Rica.
