I decided to call Cross Country Moving Group to help me with my move from Ohio to Arizona. I was given a quote but when the movers arrived they tried to add more things to the list and charge me more and ended up breaking one of my things they wanted to charge me to wrap knowing it was broken. I paid over 700 dollars to the company to get my things. They didn’t contact me for at least a week after they picked up my belongings then when they contacted me they wanted more money to deliver items. I never received any of my things!! Including my grandmas cook books that were very sentimental because she had just passed away. I also got a email months later from a man that the moving company had given my tv to!! I had to leave me couches that were on the inventory list!!! I also had to leave a brand new washer and dryer.Initial Complaint

Contracted with Cross Country Moving Group. for a move that took place Nov 19/2020. First estimate was $3760.26 which I was required to put $1500 down to lock in moving date. 2nd call the estimate went up 51.1% to $7361.99 but I was assured that this was an over estimate and I would only be charged what was needed. When I said I couldnt sign this increase, I was told then they would not be able to help me and I would lose my deposit. When the mover arrived, It was someone from US Movers, Inc and the driver told me that he was going to have to write another estimate because they did not do it properly. I told him to take what he thought was included. I then had to pay him half the cost. He did not take everything on the list and we subsequently had to rent a van to complete the move. Upon delivery, there were several items broken and an antique glass table top missing which was noted on the Inventory list and signed by the driver. I filed a claim with their outsourced provider, MovingClaims.net. Spent alot of time documenting with pictures and estimates, the Total was $1327.96 plus an additional $1500 requested for completing the move. I received a settlement $69. When I asked how that was determined, they simply said they were on the claims administrator and that was what US Movers authorized. There was no recourse for the consumer in this chain of providers and certainly no one is taking accountability. I have had anxiety over this for the last year. I did not sign the settlement document as it is not enough to replace the glass table top estimated at $258 which is the only thing I am concerned about.Business response

******* ****,
you did not take out any extra insurance for your moving furniture. The claims for moving by law is .60 cents per lb. The liability coverage from the movers insurance only deemed $69.00.
Your move has been over a year now, at this point the insurance coverage wont open or reopen any of your claims and all decisions by the insurance is final.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They have not addressed their predatory practice of convincing you of one cost and then doubling the price with assurance that they have over estimated only to have a 3rd attempt by the actual move to try to increase the price again. The claim has already been resolved. It is ridiculous that you do not know that. And even more so that you did not address the obvious issue with your business model.Business response

******* ****,
we apologize you did not have a good experience with our mover, however your move has been almost 2 years ago. Since you are asking for help more than 6 moths after your move had been serviced at this point unfortunately the insurance will not provide any coverage for any damage items any longer as it is outside the coverage window.
If you have any questions please feel free to call our office and speak to customer service.
