We contracted Charles Mead to do crown molding in our living, dining, and bed room area and also to do a customize his and hers closet in our home in Jacksonville Florida. An initial $7000 DEPOSIT was given to him in the form of a check on March 2nd 2022 an additional $7000 was paid on April 29th. The remaining balance of $1800 was to be paid at the completion of the project. the last time Mr. Mead came on the job site was April 29th he has completed less than 30% of the contracted job however he has more than 80% of the contracted amount the amount has already been paid out to him with the remaining $1800 was to be paid at the completion of the prohect. to date Mr. Mead has not completed the job. He has completed less than 30% of the work With more than 80% of the contracted amount having been paid to him. To date, has not returned to complete the job and was last on the job scene April 29th. He left his tools and equipment in my home with the intent of coming back to complete the job but has been a no show. he promised multiple dates that he would return only to not show up. We've made numerous attempts to communicate with him via email via text via phone call without any resolution. When he does respond to our correspondence he informed us that hes sending someone To complete the job, but never show up. Most recently on 7/30/22 he informed us that he would not be able to complete the job because he is busy on another project.

      Business response

      10/11/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/08/10) */ ********** hired Charles Mead INC. to build 2 custom built in closet systems in the master closet, we built them to be exactly what they said they wanted as we had to keep changing everything to please them. They wanted us to put crown molding up in the house which had been delivered to the house but was not able to be installed due to *** not supply the correct radius of some of the walls and he also did not have his automatic blinds up which the crown would have to go around. He called us and made my son drive up there to pick up the crown stating it could not be in his garage for him to close on his house and that it was also the only thing in his garage which was not true also. They forgot to mention that the $14,000 they paid me was to supply all the material to build the built-ins in both master closets, we built shelves in the kitchen pantry which we had to go back and add more shelves after we had finished the closet per him and his wife. We had done everything to all the closets we had put shelves in to get them ready for paint like caulking, puttying everything in, and sanding down to make smooth which was not part of the quote i gave them. We also installed the baseboard throughout the entire house which required me to buy rubber baseboard to get around 3 radius walls in the house. I also had to purchase extra baseboard myself because *** did not supply enough to install through the garage where he had wanted it. He asked me to come up after he moved in to install the crown molding because it couldn't be done before due to being an extra. He continued to text me saying how his wife was divorcing him and he was having to live in a hotel so i showed up with 4 men and installed 8 drawers that I had to build in his wife's closet which he tried to add more to it while we were there. I told Mr. ****** that I would deliver the crown molding back to his house and he could take the remainder of the money ($1,800) he still owed me and have his worker Carl install the molding and 8 drawer fronts in the master closet. I don't appreciate that i was also receiving text messages From Mr. ****** asking if this is how I treat all of my black customers. I showed the text messages I received from Mr. ****** to his worker Carl to ask if any of this was true with the divorce and hotel and Carl said he could not believe how much we were being lied too. I tried to tell Mr. ****** that once i finish the job i have going on in Brunswick Georgia and my worker finishes in Orlando Florida that we would get up there to finish the drawer fronts in the master closet which was when he had his wife send in a complaint to you. i attached some photos of the built-ins that i was given pictures to remake in the space they had. Thank you for your time. Consumer Response /* (3000, 14, 2022/08/25) */ ***Document Attached*** This response from Charles Mead INC is NOT SATISFACTORY. Mr. Mead in his response admits to not completing the job he was contracted to do, yet he refuse to refuse to refund to money he was paid to do so. Pictures of the unfinished work were previously submitted. Mr. Mead have been in the home 3 times and had plenty of opportunity to get whatever measurements he needed to complete the job. He's the hired professional with the expertise. Not sure why he is dependent on the customer to take and provide him with measurements to do his jobs. Taking accurate measurement to perform a task he is hired to do is within his scope of work. Mr. Mead continues to use my garage for storage. To date, he still has supplies and equipment in my garage under the false pretext that will return to finish the job and still has not return. I did not hire Carl to do any crown molding or cabinet work in my home. I do not have a contract with Carl. My contract is with Charles Mead. I no point did I agree to have Carl do the work that I hire Mr. Mead to do. (see attached tex screen shots). "I tried to tell Mr. ****** that once i finish the job i have going on in Brunswick Georgia and my worker finishes in Orlando Florida that we would get up there to finish the drawer fronts in the master closet which was when he had his wife send in a complaint to you.".... Mr. Mead have been promising that he will come to complete the job since April 21, 2022. Four months later, he is STILL A NO SHOW. (see attached tex screen shots) I'm still requesting a refund from Charles Mead INC
