If I could give 0 stars, I would. Booked a last minute rental through SIXT online and prepaid. My father was listed as the main driver; however the reservation was under my name, email and paid for with my credit card. It never said he needed to be present. We presented to the rental counter and promptly were told by the agent that he could not release the rental because my father was not here (in attempting to get everyone home, he ended up riding in a second vehicle). He stated that he wasnt supposed to help me as a walk-up, but he would see what he could do. He returned a rental option for $100 more than my prepaid rental. I explained that the rental was prepaid in my name, I was presenting the same credit card and if he couldnt release it, then I expected to rebook it at the same rate of my original reservation. He repeatedly failed to listen, talked down to me and when a supervisor was requested, he said there wasnt any available. At some point, the agent became unprofessional and began refusing to release any car to me. I stated that I would have my father present for the rental and confirmed that the rental was still valid, that he didnt cancel it. He stated it was. My father drove back to the airport from 40 minutes away and presented to the counter. The agent stated, Im not serving you. I already canceled your reservation because your husband (who was never at the counter) was upset and disrespectful. I stated the prepaid reservation was still showing as valid and demanded the services be rendered. He again refused. When we requested to speak with the manager, he stated he was unavailable. We stated we would wait for him at the counter, at which time he stated he would call security to have us removed. This agent was unprofessional, unreasonable and acting far above his jurisdiction. I have made multiple attempts to resolve this with SIXT corporate and the branch manager and have received no response. He needs a ****** in customer service.Review from Anita C

If you need to cancel a reservation they keep Majority of your money. Do not rent with this company.. the airline canceled my flight I had to find another way to get where im was going so I didnt need the car anymore. They kept $200 of my money. This is a rip off. And Im going to file a complaint with the BBB.Review from Denée B

Fraudulent Charges for Pre-Existing Damage Completely Unacceptable I am extremely disappointed with Sixt Car Rental. They have attempted to charge me for damage that I did not inflict on a rental car. Despite providing photographic evidence as requested, and showing that the large scratch was present before I even stepped foot in the car, they still say that I am responsible for it. This was a rental over three months ago. It is outrageous to expect customers to pay for damage caused by someone else simply because the company can not keep track of their vehicle conditions in a timely manner.How many customers have been charged $800 for the exact same scratch on this car? This is a blatant attempt to defraud customers and am now seeing that this same thing has happened to tons of other customers. Beware of renting here!Review from Michelle U

Booked one of their cars through Expedia and paid my full amount. Once we picked up the car, we decided to go with the basic insurance which we were told was $135. Now we're getting an invoice and my credit card charged for close to $300. of course they gave us no paperwork stating that we paid for the $135 insurance. They're now changing the price to $185 after the fact and they tacked on several different charges. I would never book through them again! Of course no one's willing to speak to you or help with the charges.Review from Laura B

Coming on here I can see why the low customer rating and wish I had looked at this prior to renting or using this service. My husband and I rented a sixt car for a short weekend trip from *********. Once my husband picked me up, he was able to see the car fully in day light, the garage at airport was dark. The car was filthy. The seats were stained and there was a visible liquid spill all over the gear shift and dashboard. We had to stop and get wipes to clean the car out to feel like it was even suitable to drive.Secondly, the car was banged up on the outside in various spots. It was truly embarrassing to show up at our family event in this car and multiple people commented on the car. We did call into Sixt to complain. They offered the opportunity to change out the vehicle, but at that point we were on a timeline and not close to an airport.They then "Resolved" the issue by offering a $40 voucher.When I called to speak to customer service they informed me they could only speak with my husband because it was in his name. I do understand that, but then the representative told me that when he calls back, I could QUOTE, not be "CHIMING IN" on my husbands call.This was such a degrading comment and offensive.If this is the standard at which this company believes cars should be handed to customers, and the way that a female customer should be addressed on the phone, then I never wish to do business with them ever again.I do think others need to have this information and think twice about who they choose for rentals.Review from Marilyn S

Very poor customer service. I made a booking with Sixt through Expedia. Immediately after making the booking, I realized I had the wrong dates and had booked for July instead of October. I contacted Expedia to cancel the booking and was told I would be charged a $65 fee for canceling, even though I had contacted them within minutes of booking. They contacted Sixt to ask if they would waive the policy, but they refused. I also have to wait over a month now for the test of my refund, which is also ridiculous. Very unhappy with both Sixt and Expedia.Review from Robert D

SIXT hoodwinked me on my rental in many ways. While reserving online, I chose a Chevrolet Blazer in *****, **, on February 2024 only to show up at SIXT to find there were no Blazers available. I was given a lower model Chevrolet and got charged the same extra price tier for a standard vehicle despite asking the counter service person to change my reservation pricing to reflect the vehicle I was given. I rented another car in July 2024, in *********, ** a Chevrolet Trailblazer, only to find out they had no Trailblazer to rent, again I was given a lower model at the same tier price.Because of this type of switch an bait, I will never rent from Sixt again.Review from Umar H

Airport customer service was nice to me and I had no issues. HOWEVER I Called the company's customer service line to extend my **********************. I confirmed my Reservation number, email, name, etc. associated with the account. After giving me a good rate to extend, she authorized my credit card said I would be getting an email shortly confirming my extension.After no email, an hour goes by and I call back to check if everything is okay, and someone else picks up, saying that the car was never extended, we never received a call and the person we talked to does not exist!!!! Even though we called the same number in both scenarios. Now this person is claiming that call never happened and that they can't do anything about it and will have to charge more now! Asked for the supervisor and no accountability was taken for this mistake. All he could say was that they could charge us more now. Horrible phone **************** and due to THEIR mistake our trip has been afflicted and disorganized due to the FIRST PHONE callers "promise".Review from Michael T

We will NEVER rent from Sixt ever again!!! We rented a ****** Forester from Sixt in *******, ** last week for 8 days. My wife ordered the car in November through the Sixt app and elected to pay for it upfront, as the charge was significantly less. Upon looking at the breakdown of the cost, $416.75, the reservation listed the base price and included all additional taxes and fees. When we arrived at the airport, the agent asked us if we wished to have liability insurance coverage, and we said "no" because our car insurance includes rental coverage. She stated that we had prepaid and then got my husband's signature as the primary driver. We returned the vehicle on-time to the *************** and were emailed a copy of our invoice for $429.13 in additional charges. We were not only charged $279 for liability insurance, which we never authorized, and all sorts of additional taxes and fees appeared. One fee was a sales tax of 10% and a Rental Vehicle Surcharge of 5%. Per the reservation, we already paid the surcharge as part of the pre-payment. We called to voice our concerns, and they are refunding the $279, which is better than nothing, but we are stuck with the additional $150 in fees and taxes that we supposedly prepaid for. I do not recommend this company, nor will I ever use them again. I am an attorney and agree that the Sixt app gives the impression that everything is paid upfront and nothing further will be owed. They are deceitful and dishonest - don't fall victim to a company such as this!Review from Steve K

Caution to renters! I booked a car through Expedia, paying an upfront fee of $487. Initially, the car wasn't available at the airport despite availability, forcing me to spend over $50 on a taxi to the downtown Seattle office. I had bought insurance via Expedia as a precaution, only to be informed at the office that it wouldn't cover the vehicle. The customer service representative (CSR) urged me to buy additional insurance without disclosing the cost and charged an extra $335 deposit fee not included in the Expedia bill. He arranged for me to return the car to the airport when I was due to fly out, or so I was led to believe. I enjoyed driving the Rav 4 for the week without any issues. However, as my departure neared, I received an email claiming I had returned the car late and incurred an extra $76 in late fees. When I contacted the CSR, I was told the drop-off time had been set 13 hours before my flight, which was a clear error. The CSR on the phone was uncooperative and insisted on charging me. Fortunately, the SIXT office staff at the airport amended my drop-off time graciously. Yet, days later, SIXT billed me an additional $123 for airport drop-off and extra insurance costs—services I was initially told were redundant. I was unaware of any airport drop-off fee, as it was never mentioned by the CSR. Beware of hidden charges from this company; I will definitely not be using their services again.
