Date was a Saturday 4/27/2024. I paid 185 USD for two separate courses. One was 125 USD and the other was 60 USD. Lifeguard U (the company) was supposed to recertify me for Lifeguard Instructor, as well as a "test out" of my Lifeguard certification. I have been an instructor for over 25 years, have been recertified many times before as you need to be recertified every 2 years. This is the first time I have had a company/instructor not make reasonable accomodations for the course. I asked to simply stay in the water to stay warm as opposed to getting in and out of the water, (something normally requested from my 25 years of experience) as it was raining and windy on this day. Many of the other lifeguards were freezing also. When asked if I could just stay in the water to complete the necessary tasks, he said no, that I had to stand outside of the pool in the rain and wind. I refused to follow those instructions so I left the course without being recertified for either of the courses I had paid for. I am requesting payment returned, at least half of the payment. I drove two hours each way for this course for ************************* the *** of Lifeguard U tell me that I had to stand in the rain, I believe he said "suck it up." He was also very rude to the young lifeguards that were participating in the course, I however at the age of 45 was not going to allow him to demean me, especially after such a simple request of accomodation.
