In the early ****s two of my uncles purchased adjoining lots in ************, an undeveloped community in *** Country, *******. They never developed these lots, and in fact, never even did a site survey. After their passing, the properties reverted to my two cousins and me. For several years we continued to pay the real estate taxes on these properties and eventually decided none of ** was ever going to develop these and stopped paying taxes. We were told by the authorities of Lee County that we were not personally liable for the debt, and anyone who chose to buy these abandoned lots would have to reimburse Lee County for the outstanding tax liability. In October 2021 we received notice of a public sale of these lots which resulted in a surplus of $25,120. payable for the benefit of persons having an interest in these properties as described in 197.502(4) Florida Statutes. We engaged the services of ********************, ******************************************** an asset recovery firm, to navigate the processing of these funds in exchange for a 15% commission of the funds that were to be disbursed. On November 4, 2022, having received the funds from the Lee ************************ Mr. ******************** wired the funds as instructed to ********************* with an email address of Tombross.*** @gmail.com.I questioned Mr. ******************** why we did not receive the funds and he produced the document with the instructions to wire the funds but my email address is ********************* not with the spelling of the wiring firm he received. We came to the conclusion that he had been scammed, and the funds were sent to an unknown recipient with no relation to me or my family.Mr. ******************** produced a notarized promissory note indicating that we would receive the funds owed to ** by February 2023 and 9% interest if some funds could not be issued in a timely manner. I can document all of the above actions with copies of letters, e-mails and notarized statements.
