During my Plan of Care, the two PET/CT Scans my doctor ordered were NEVER called into my BCBS-AL insurance for Prior Auth. The Mayo NEVER notified me of this and have now put $6772 of $17000 total into collections, AGAIN, WITHOUT notifying me. My appeals have been exhausted with NO HELP from the Mayo to prove MEDICAL NECESSITY. I believe we would have won the Appeal of they would have taken the time to provide MEDICAL RECORDS to prove MEDICAL NECESSITY - I have Stage IIE Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma. Duh! These tests ARE medically necessary. WHATEVER YOU DO, go to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa BEFORE thinking about the Mayo in Jacksonville. The Mayo still HAS NOT responded to any of my requests - they just keep sending me EMAILS to pay. They also will not provide me with details of the $6772 that is in collections. PRIOR AUTHORIZATION is a MUST with any high-priced tests/treatments - THE MAYO SHOULD KNOW THIS. NOPE!!! They just want the almighty dollar from their already stressed-out cancer patients!

This complaint is to report a potential Malpractice situation, and to allow Mayo Clinic to evaluate and settle this without the need of going to court. There are three teams involved in this. ************** *** *** *********. I’ll start by saying the ********* team has been AMAZING. A group of empathetic and human people. I however cannot say the same for the others, which brings me to my situation. My first *** follow up was on the 18th. Weeks before when I see the apppintment was schedule with a simple nurse ********* ****** and not the doctor who was at the surgery ( ****** ********* ) I started to call to see if either ********* or an MD could see me. Unfortunately ********* was on vacation and no MD was available. At 4 am of the 18th I have my first epistaxis episode. I nosebleed profusely for 15-20 min. It stopped, and I continued my 2 hour drive to Mayo. Upon arrival, I let nurse ***** know about the situation. She continued the appointment as scheduled, and just said to take Afrin if the nosebleeds continued. After this I have 3 nosebleeds, between Friday and Saturday. On Friday I quickly call and message to let the medical team know. And it wasn’t until 4 pm that nurse ****** calls me to ask what was happening. When I tell her about the episodes, she tells me not to go to an ER since no ER would touch something that was a surgery managed at Mayo Clinic. She then calls back again saying to disregard, saying I should go. On Saturday I had to go to the hospital, and ambulance picked me up. I then reach out to my ***********n who was kind enough to give us his personal phone number and then he manages to reach out to the *** on call team. Subsequently Dr ***** contacts me and tells me to go to Mayo to get surgery since I might have an acting artery causing the bleeding. Had ***** done her job correctly, I would have not gone through all of this. And there is more, but I’m not allowed to write more in this space.

11/16/2020 to 12/04/2020 I went to the Mayo Clinic because I was recommendation by their doctor, Since I live out of state I was told they would get approval from my health insurance company, After a few months I was told by Mayo that they got the approval from my insurance company and I was all set to come down. I spent 3 weeks there paying all the costs associated with staying there to receive the treatment . After coming home I started receiving bills from Mayo stating that I now owe $33,000 and that my insurance company did not pay. I spoke to my insurance company multiple times and they stated that Mayo Clinic did not call to get a pre approval. I also called Mayo multiple times with no solution. I sent them a certified letter stating all the facts witch they have not replied to me at all. Now I am being threatened by Mayo that they are going to send me to collection. I would like to resolved Please help
