Ever since the day I moved in to my home in 2019 my bill has been outrageous with this company. Most recently, I scheduled a payment to be made through their own system the day before a scheduled disconnection and they went ahead and disconnected my service the day prior. My dog was locked in the house for hours and they said as they always do theres nothing we can do even after I paid the balance. First opportunity to leave this area Im taking it and telling everyone I know not to use this company. It just ***** that writing reviews on here wont do anything about this company even though they have absolutely nothing but negative feedback.Review from Michael T

I recently purchased a house with a 374 sq ft cottage on a separate lot. The house and guest cottage each have their own utilities. I called JEA to have the power and water turned on to both houses, and there way no problem with the main house. The power for the cottage had a problem where the lights were dim. and it didn't have proper voltage. I called JEA and told them that I wasn't getting the correct voltage to the meter. I could visibly see that the wires coming to the cottage had been spliced and were 2 different sizes. They made me call an electrician who told them the same thing I did and they finally came and changed their wire to my house. The water for the cottage never got turned on so I looked in the meter box and there wasn't one. I had been billed for the cut on and was being charged for water and sewer while there wasn't even a meter there. About a week later, they came and installed the meter, then I get a water and sewer bill for $70 with no usage not including the cut on fee. When I called about it, they told me it was because I had requested a 1 inch meter and they cost more. I told them that the line to my 374 sq ft cottage was 3/4 and why would they use a 1 inch meter. They said it was because I requested it and it will be $500 to change it to a 3/4 which would lower my basic w&s bill by 50%. I never requested it and they can't show me where I did, but they won't budge off of the $500. The linemen and repair guys are great but I would give the crs's and supervisors a zero if I could.Jacksonville Electric Authority Response

The address has service dating back to 1995, meter and service size for the address is 1 inch. Therefore, this premise bills for a 1 inch service. If a customer wants to reduce the size of service, there is a cost of $500.Review from Torri M

Zero stars, JEA is the worst. What's makes them think if I can barely pay a 200 bill, I can pay an extra deposit of 462??? I pay my bill every month ..sometimes I have been late but to add 462 to my monthly bill , DUE IN FULL BECAUSE I'VE BEEN LATE IS ASININE NOW MY BILL IS 985. SMH, Straight SCAMMERS. I'VE HAD services in Many other States with many other companies and have never encountered such billing policies. They are crooks . The account had a deposit added as a result of 2 return checks. The first return check payment was made January 1, 2024. A letter was mailed out on January 5, 2024 to advise the customer of the return check along with informing a return check negatively impacts the internal score of the account and a deposit may be required. The second return check was from the payment made on April 20, 2024. If the customer feels this was an bank error, a letter on bank letterhead stating a bank error occurred can be submitted for a possible deposit removal. JEA also offers a MyWay program in which a deposit is not needed as this is a pay as you go service.Review from Kelley A

I am sick to my stomach. I just found out I am expecting my first child and I am actually having a mental breakdown over my $744 JEA bill. I am so, so sad about the lack of humanity. JEA added an additional residential deposit of $455 to my bill. I had an issue with my direct deposit and my employer depositing payment into the wrong account, which caused two back to back returned payments. To be clear, the MOMENT I was notified of the returned payments I paid the bill immediately. The customer service representative I spoke with acknowledged this but said nothing can be done. The only option was the put the bill in my husbands name instead but they are still not removing the fee and saying that he cannot be on auto pay - cash only. Hes on active duty and can be deployed at any time and they STILL wont let him pay by card, nor will they remove the additional $455 from our bill.I am sick to my stomach. I cant believe that corporations like JEA value money so much more than they do the wellbeing half a million residential electric customers.Jacksonville Electric Authority Response

The first return check was for the payment made on December 28, 2023 and a letter was mailed out on 01/05/2024 to advise of return check and advised a return check impacts the internal credit score of the account which may require a deposit on the account. The next return check was for the payment made on March 3,2024. As a result of a second return check, a deposit was added to the account. A manager spoke with the account holder on May 31, *********************************************************************************************** order to remove the cash only status on the account. They are awful. The billing system is fraudulent . Even when we are not in town for a the whole month the water and electricity bill is high exactly same as when we were in town. At some time it is even more than when we were in town. There is some suspicious billing going on. when there is absolutely no body living in the house. I get emails from ecobee stating the usage has gone down 80%!or 90% of regular usage yet the bill is almost exactly same as when we are in town. We have made contact with ****************. We have created an efficiency appointment to meet with **************** and go over usage and what may be impacting her overall monthly bill. She expressed concern with her electric meter and would like it inspected. Offered a maintenance ticket, but she declined. She can call at any time to create a maintenance ticket.Review from Michael S

I have been consistently charged by JEA for the irrigation services besides the basic rate, that I havent been using. My customer complaints have not been answered or resolved on many occasions. JEA increased our basic rates (this is not to include the fuel charges which have also increased) in the last 2 years by 333%. There was no public referendum and no vote by the public. It was just forced upon us! They had the *** and the *** embezzle millions of dollars from JEA and they just financed a trial for each of them that took years. I would guess that a good portion of our rate increase will cover the *** and ***s embezzlement amounts and legal fees incurred by JEA. HOW DARE THEY!!! Utilities used to be sacred and the Corporation Commissions of most states would rule on their increase requests and in some states a public referendum is offered. This is highway robbery for the public. Most people that I've talked to in Jacksonville really do hate JEA for these and all of the other behaviors that you see in the other reviews.Jacksonville Electric Authority Response

JEA has worked hard to keep the proposed increase as reasonable as possible. The initial proposed rate increase is predominantly attributed to costs from ************ in Georgia, which currently provides clean nuclear energy to JEA customers. Unit 4 is expected to come online sometime in the second quarter of 2024, helping us reduce carbon emissions and increase our use of cleaner energy to meet our areas growing needs.Every utility has its governing bodies and policies to maintain its rates, and JEA's pricing policy is approved by the JEA board of directors. WORST COMPANY EVER!!! Scammers always raise the prices and give everybody and bs reason when we are paying for there building and over c*** Never in my life have I ever been so aggravated by a shame company like this one. Everyone hates JEA who lives in Jacksonville ** dont bother writing back acting like yall care about your customers because yall could care less about over charging and straight lying to people about their bill!!! Less than zero stars. In June 2023, I moved my business into a newly develop location. When I contacted JEA to move my services they started my electric services correctly, but as I found out yesterday, they did not start the appropriate water meter to my unit. Yesterday morning, JEA turned off the water to that meter. So not only did they mess up and not connect the water meter to the appropriate unit(s) they are back charging me for 5 months of water usage and the fees associated with starting a new meter. I was told yesterday afternoon, that a technician was to be out there to sort it all out and restart my water and this was considered high priority because its a business. It has been over 24 hours since they turned off the water and no one has come to turn it back on. Ive had to close my business down for the day to ensure there are no sanitary concerns by staying open. Ive spoken to 5 different agents on the phone for updates, none of whom told me the same thing about when a tech will be there. It didnt happen last night like I was told, nor this morning like I was told. Now, because it wasnt last night or this morning, theyve changed their tone and are telling me they have no specific time on when theyd be there and that the other agents shouldnt have given me a time. Really ***** that such a bad company with a corrupt reputation and horrible customer service has cornered the market in Jacksonville and were forced to choose them and pay for unsatisfactory performance.Jacksonville Electric Authority Response
