In August 2022 I contracted Patti the Plumber to install a sink and replace the hot water heater in my laundry area. I explicitly instructed Patti to reroute old plastic water pipes leading into and out of the water heater inside the dry wall and to re-route the washer/dryer connections inside the dry wall so that I could fit out the remainder of the laundry space with cabinets and backsplash. Patti completed the sink and hot water heater installation but left all of the new pipes outside the dry wall. She also left the washer/dryer connections outside the dry wall. When I asked why, she said that the space between the dry wall and the structural wall was too narrow to accommodate the pipes and lines. She said that any ********* would be able to lay new dry wall to the outside of the pipes, enabling me to install cabinets over the newly laid external dry wall. Patti performed the work under permit and the **************** approved the work. So, not knowing any better, I paid Patti $4,800 for the work she did. I then contacted 2 different general contractors to get quotes for cabinet installation. Both contractors told me that there would be no way to lay dry wall outside the pipes Patti installed. Both general contractors told me that Patti had done a sloppy job on the pipe installation - and that there was plenty of room within the existing dry wall to thread the pipes and washer/dryer connections. In mid-November, I asked Patti to either redo the work or refund some of my money and she refused. I have had to spend more than $16,000 redoing all of the pipe work Patti did. I would like a partial refund for the sloppy work she did.Thank you,-*****************************

      Business response

      08/16/2023

This is the first correspondence I have received about this complaint. I have never received a email, text or phone call since the job was completed a year ago. This was a permitted job that was inspected by the a **************** and passed. To pass inspection both the functionality and workmanship have to be to ******* building code.
If I had been given the opportunity I would have gladly addressed his concerns, answered any questions and addressed his complaints be they valid or not and I would have quickly rectified any problems

The ******* invoice was for multiple tasks and the repipe of the drainage was a small portion of what was completed.

A water heater was replaced, a old water meter was removed, a shower cartridge was replaced, both bathroom sink drains were cleaned and repaired and I made special trips to met the ********* and the inspector on-site.
Please note the drainage and water lines for the washing machine and sink were in a closet, in the hallway and the sink he wanted installed was wedged between the water heater and full size a stackable washer and dryer. This was a very small space and a very small job.

The cost breakdown is as follows

      Parts 1163.75

      Permitting 500.00

      Labor **** @ ****** = 3172.50

      Labor breakdown

6 hours for the water heater removal and installation.  This included a repipe of the existing water supply, replacement of the main water valve, removal of a old water meter,  and disposal at the dump up the keys.

2 hours cleaning both drains and rebuilding the drains under the bathroom sinks

1.5 hours to replace the shower cartridge and handle, the cartridge was seized and had to be cut out if the valve making this a difficult job.

1 hour attempting to remove the tub drain and the tub spout which were also seized and in brittle pipe and attempting to remove a mildew and mold issue in the same tub.

2 hours installing the new drainage and water lines for the washing machine and the sink addition in the closet.

1 hour for meeting the ********* and inspector and giving them access to ****** apartment

      Jasons complaint is for hours @ ****** = ****** plus parts ****** for a total of ******

I do not feel a refund is warranted especially one year later however if a portion of the ****** needs to be refunded to solve this issue please advise what you think to be fair and I will issue a check immediately.  I do feel stating he spent 16k fixing a ****** job is a huge stretch. The job done was a simple drainage relocation

I have pictures of the work done that would attest to the workmanship. I have attempted to upload the pictures and the original invoice but your website keeps rejecting my submissions.  I will forward by mail today.
