On February 28, 2022 a salesman by the name of Ray representing Direct Energy of Florida came to my house to discuss the installation of solar panels. He informed me that Direct Energy of Florida has a model home program that assists homeowners with upgrades to their main residence as well as rebates and a tax credit for the solar panels that would help offset the price of the solar system as well as the upgrades to my home (Bring attic insulation up to code, upgrade hot water heater, upgrade pool pump, Install a solar powered attic fan). After doing a home survey Ray went through the list of things that he found, he mentioned that the R value of the attic insulation was extremely low and that I qualified since my R value for the insulation was so low. He then told me that the water heater I had wasn't an energy saving water heater and that I qualified for a hybrid water heater. He told me that since I have an old single stage single speed pool pump that I qualified for an upgraded variable speed pool pump. Also, he informed me that since my attic has no exhaust fan, he thinks I would qualify for the installation of a new solar powered attic fan. After informing me of all this Ray called his office and was talking to a gentleman by the name of Nick, Ray informed me that I did in fact qualify for a $24,000.00 home improvement loan with Service Finance who would handle my home improvement credit account. Also, while still on the phone Ray informed me that I did in fact qualify for $6,000.00 in rebates. Nick explained to me that the rebates would come in the form of a check and to watch for the check. After getting off the phone Ray informed me that some people use the check to take a vacation while other people use the check to pay down their loan. I explained to Ray that being on a fixed budget, I would never have been able to afford these kinds of upgrades without the assistance he shared with me today. To date no check. sounds like a bait and switch tactic to me

Business Response /* (1000, 17, 2022/09/15) */ We have discussed the issue and I believe it has been solved. Consumer Response /* (3000, 19, 2022/09/22) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I absolutely do not accept the reply from Direct Energy of Florida. First, I finally received a phone call from Mr. A********* on September 2, 2022. I informed him there was a problem with the solar system and asked him about the 'Model Home Program'. He attempted to tell me that I received free upgrades. When I told him I didn't receive anything free, you (Mr. A*********) added the price of the upgrades to the contract for the solar panels. He told me that he would send Jon out to check the system leading me to believe he would call me back to discuss what I call 'DOUBLE CONTRACT SCAM'. To date I have not heard anything from Mr. A*********. On September 6, 2022, Jon came to check the solar system. As he was talking to someone on the phone explaining to him about the wires in the system. I heard Jon tell the individual on the phone that the wires were crossed. He then took a picture before reversing the wires. This would explain why my Enphase App kept showing all the power we were producing was being sent straight to the FPL grid as I continued to pay an electric bill. Unfortunately, Jon never took the opportunity to discuss what I call 'THEIR DECEITFUL TACTICS'. It is my intentions, from this point forward, to inform every consumer I can, concerning what I call 'DOUBLE CONTRACT SCAM'. As I said in my original complaint, Ray A********* with Direct Energy of Florida came to my residence to discuss the installation of solar panels. THE SCAM THAT CONSUMERS NEED TO BE AWARE OF IS. The salesman (Mr. A********* in my situation) fills out a worksheet concerning everything that will be needed to install the solar system plus price of the install. This gives the customer a false impression and that is exactly what the salesman is hoping for then he takes the worksheet and puts it in his folder, so you have no evidence later. Therefore, take pictures of every piece of paper the salesman shows you. The salesman will then tell you about a great offer from the company ('Model Home Program' in my situation). He explains about upgrades like new water heater, new pool pump, new attic exhaust fan and blown in attic insulation ($6,000 dollars' worth of equipment in my situation) all for free if you allow the company to set up a canopy in your driveway to solicit potential customers. After agreeing to this wonderful offer, the salesman will fill out two contracts. The first contract will show that there is no charge for all of these upgrades. The second contract has the price of the solar system and the price of all of the upgrades. Then the salesman will tell you not to worry about the increased price and that you will receive a check in the mail when the company sends their people out to solicit my neighbors. Then he calls his office pretending to get approval and while on the phone the individual (Nick in my situation) will congratulate you and tell you to watch for the check in the mail. It is all garbage, there is no one coming out and there is no check. It is my opinion; this company cannot be trusted. My main intentions is to inform consumers of this type of scam Thank you for your assistance you have the wrong phone number listed. My phone number is*************** Business Response /* (4000, 25, 2022/10/12) */ We are very sorry you feel that way! You have a fully functioning PV system, using the best inverters on the market! In addition, your home is now insulated. We have tried to make you happy but you seem to be stuck on wording. Your system qualifies for a 30% tax credit not sure why you keep saying rebate.. Consumer Response /* (4200, 33, 2022/10/28) */ After reviewing some paperwork, I have discovered that this scam that consumers need to be aware of is bigger than I originally thought. The second part of this scam now involves Service Finance Company. I am compiling more information that I will provide in the next couple of days. Furthermore, I attempted to reach out to Mr. Hennessey via two phone calls. I have not received a return call as of this time. Respectfully ************* Business Response /* (4000, 35, 2022/10/28) */ As you stated several months ago, As a resolution, "On the contract it states model home program that Ray and Nick both promised me. Follow through with what your company promised..." 1. I have provided you with both of their numbers. 2 . You have spoke with Ray 3. You have not called Nick! 4. Your system is works, and is producing the correct amount of power 5. Now you stated that "Service Finance is involved with Direct Energy in some sort of conspiracy!" For the record, neither Direct Energy or Service Finance-"Owned by Truist" is involved in any type of scam. 6. Please let us know what the problem is? Consumer Response /* (4200, 37, 2022/11/02) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) NO!!!!!! I do not accept anything from Mr. P********* who is a worthless liar...... I am sorry to inform you that my scanner/printer stopped working. There is a new one that should be delivered tomorrow...... In the meantime, I have attached a timeline and snapshots of text messages between Mr. P********* and myself. Once I have my printer/scanner hooked up I will forward more information.

On December 29 2021 Jake W******** from Direct Energy came to my home in Titusville fl to talk about ways to save on are electric bill they suggested a high efficiency pool pump attic insulation a solar hot water heater a attic barrier and attic fans along with solar panels and if we did all this we would have a minimum electric bill of 15-20 dollars per month we where Skeptical about it but we where re Insured and told it was a science and that they have never had any issues then after getting the loan details and saw it was 330 a month for 30 years we again asked are they sure this will work and stress that we are on a fixed income now that everything is hooked up and running im still getting a 197.00 a month electric bill on top of the 330 a month payment so they took my 350 dollar a month bill and turned it into 550 a month when I called and asked about it John one of the owners came out and checked the equipment out and said it was all working as it should and to have the meter from Fpl checked out for defect which checked out that it was good my father mark then spoke with Chris from direct energy and he was told they where talking about adding 15 panels to our system that we needed 25 but they could only do 15 I contacted them several times since with no answer then today 7-29 Chris responded that they would not be adding more panels and when I asked what the plan was I got no response Direct energy did not fill through on there promise they had me lie to the financial company and tell them the work was done when it didn't pass inspection yet they also told me not to tell the financial company about the additional work on top the solar panels we can't afford an electric bill higher than they promised and the solar payments this is going to make me lose are house please help

Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2022/08/26) */ ******, I understand your concerns, but as I explained before your bill was over $400 in February and has now dropped to $197 in a very hot July. As you already know, typically electric bills go up in the hot summer usually between 35-65%; especially, after adding that large addition to your home. You went from a 3.5 ton to a 5 ton Air Conditioner to help offset the increase in sqft for the addition. Today, once again you produced over 60 KW worth of electricity. Your equipment has been installed properly and is producing over half the power for such a big house. In addition, nobody from Direct Energy forced you to sign anything!! You signed up for the loan because you had a $400-$600 average electricity bill and now the bill is under $200 and will continue to go down as things cool off. But, it requires A little patience and longer than one month after install to accurately determine such changes. I also believe you are focusing on the wrong thing. The energy savings provided by the products installed are an added benefit. The fact is, the Solar Water Heater, (The water is hot right?) The attic insulation and solar attic fans, (The house is cooler now right?), as well as the panels installed to produce electricity (Provide Electricity For 50 Years) are all going to serve you and your home for a very long time as well as increase the value substantially. We in no way guarantee savings on electric bills because usage and savings vary considerably from house to house which is also clearly stated in the documents that you signed. We have spent a tremendous amount of time and money on this project already and simply could not meet your demands of giving you 10,000 Dollars worth of free solar panels. Though we certainly try to please everyone, after 15 years in business, we cant always meet the demands of our many customers. Sincerely, Jonathan P******** Chief Operations Officer
