I paid them $12,700 for a set of drawings plans for permitting in November 2021 they are done, but I can't get them as they still want more money. The cost was $9,400 is what the guy that did the plans said was his costs. The additional amount due is $1,750. They gave me an outrageous bid of $325,000 to do construction Job, which is more than double the other contractors to do the same work. I decided I don't want to go forward with them. This is a bathroom remodel, and add a new bath and put a deck on the house. 10 months later, I still have no plans that I paid for. I feel they are deceptive by giving higher than average bids so you don't want to go forward and they pocket the money. I want my plans that I paid for and I shouldn't have to pay anymore for them. Solution is to give me my plans and have them pay the the drawing guy in full, as this is the money I already paid them.

Consumer Response /* (2000, 6, 2022/10/12) */ Homestyles Group and their hired architect allowed me to get my complete set of plans without any additional costs. Compliant has been resolved based on me receiving these plans.

I wrote a detailed review of my kitchen remodeling project on Google if further detail is required. I would like reimbursement from Homestyles for: 1. $105 plumbing bill I incurred because they refused to bring back their plumber to correctly fix pipes banging together after they (not the plumber) reinstalled my dishwasher. 2. $2750 they charged me to replace my bifold pantry doors with frosted glass French doors. One of the French doors they installed is warped (their assessment) and they refuse to replace it saying it "falls within the acceptable tolerance range".

      11/17/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2021/10/15) */ Oct 14, 2021 BBB Response for Part 1 - Complaint Case# XXXXXXXX -The Homestyles Group, Inc.-M. ****** Per contract terms, on a plumbing basis, The Homestyles Group would cut and cap main sink and water supplies during the demo-phase. The drain and water supplies remained in the exact same location, and fell within the new Sink Base Cabinet, which also remained in the same location as the old sink Base. New shut off valves and new PVC Drain components were used by our plumber to hookup the new kitchen Sink, Faucet and New Disposal. During demolition we had removed the old dishwasher and placed it aside for possible future use. Our contract stated "Installation of customer supplied appliances were included, IF purchased from Aggressive Appliance, or, reinstallation of existing (old appliances). Mrs. ***** opted for us to reinstall her "old dishwasher." The existing PVC Flexwater supply line and drain hose were still attached to her "old dishwasher"...... and these lines were re- connected in the same fashion, to the new hot water shut off valve and the New Disposal Drain line port, as part of the disposal that would accept the old drain hose. The Homestyles Group made those connections, then tested the operation of the Dishwasher to ensure proper drainage and water line connections were good. Mrs., ***** had made the comment that she had experienced problems in the past with her old dishwasher not draining properly. After the test runs, her old dishwasher had drained properly, cycled properly and no clanging or banging noises were detected or observed by Mrs. *****, there were no leaks at the Hot Water Shut off Valve connection or the drain line connection to the disposal. Several weeks later we returned to satisfy a warranty replacement pantry door. During that visit, Mrs. ***** informed our employee that there was a noise coming from within the sink base cabinet whenever the dishwasher was running. His inspection showed, that when the Dishwasher cycled, calling for and shutting off the need for hot water, the original PVC Water Supply line from the Dishwasher to the new shut off valve, vibrated and moved, making a noise. To stop the vibration and noise, our employee applied an HVAC Support Webbing Wrap to join the drain line and water supply line together side by side, and ran the dishwasher through a cycle. That seems to have fixed the problem and Mrs. ***** seemed OK with the fix, because there was no longer any noise. When Homestyles left her Residence that day, her "old dishwasher" was still in place, and quietly operable. When we returned nearly a month later, to complete the project, sometime during that month Mrs. ***** had purchased a "New Dishwasher" and had it installed by others. During that visit Mrs. ***** had told our Project Site Manager that she wanted to be reimbursed $105. for a plumbing bill to correct the banging pipe issue. We were not contacted or made aware of this issue to have an opportunity to correct it. We do not recall receiving an email, text or phone call from Mrs. ***** to come back and address any plumbing issue regarding "banging pipes" after our visit when we joined the two (2) lines together. I will need the following from Mrs. ***** to reassess her request: 1) Copies of emails or text messages requesting our return to address the banging pipes issue; after our visit when we joined them together. 2) Copy of the Plumber 's bill, detailing scope of work and cost. As we left for the last visit our Site Manager was handed not a copy of a bill, but a yellow packing list that has since been discarded. 3)Copy of the purchase, delivery and installation date of the new dishwasher, and scope of work if any to install the new dishwasher. Oct 14, 2021 BBB Response for Part 2 - Complaint Case# XXXXXXXX -The Homestyles Group, Inc.-M.****** BBB Response for Part 2 - History of the "Frosted Glass" French Doors During Demo we removed 2 sets of Bi-fold Doors that provided access to a "Sheet rocked Pantry Area" that adjoined the Kitchen area. In that space we install "Custom Frosted Glass French Doors" with Ball Catch Type Hardware that fitted into the top of the doors, enabling the doors to shut and stay in place without ANY other locking mechanisms. Dummy type handles were installed to enable each door to be opened and closed independently. After all was installed, adjusted and painted, we released the protective film off of the Frosted Glass to find that one of the Door's Frosted Glass Finish had defects on its surface... We could not see this during the handling, delivery, installation, and finishing of the doors, until the protective film was released.... No Questions Asked, we immediately put in a claim to our Supplier and ordered another Door. Upon our Suppliers request, we brought the defective door back to them so that they would be able to prepare the hinge locations to be identical, to facilitate an accurate reinstallation. Upon receipt of the New Door, delivering it to the Site and attempting the Second installation, we found that the hinge boring locations were not precise and we could not make the door work. So a 3rd door was ordered, by the supplier, who accepted the error to be their responsibility, which brings us to the Third attempt to reinstall this door and complete the project. When all was said and done, the Third Door was Finished (painted) installed, Adjusted and it operated smoothly. With a "ball catch" Type assembly at the top of each door, Holding each door in place independently, upon closure of both doors, the Two 2 doors met evenly at the Top.... As you travel down to the bottom of each door, (Approximately 80" from top of door to bottom of door), the very bottom of the doors are out of perfect alignment somewhere between1/16" and 1/8" of an inch per my employee....Also, he conveyed to me that neither he, nor our Project Site Manager said that the door was warped. I would be open to visit your home to visibly inspect the pantry door. Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2021/10/20) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) As regards the plumber (Part 1): 1. The plumber from Homestyles did NOT reinstall my existing dishwasher. This was done by George, Homestyle's "handyman" and Mike (who I was told was the owner of the company). 2. After this install, there was terrible banging of pipes when the dishwasher was run. The dishwasher was not run at this time as Homestyles says. It was when I ran it that the pipes banged and made horrific noise. The next time Homestyles came to my house, their handyman taped all the pipes together and told me that's what any plumber would do. It was then I asked for their plumber to come back and check it out. This was a verbal request made to both Steve, the quality control; person, and George, the handyman. 3. I never got a replay to that request. I did text to Steve who was hired during my project as the "quality control" person. He was not hired before the dishwasher install. 4. The following is the relevant part of the text I sent Steve on Tuesday, May 18th: " ALSO, I HAD A PLUMBER CHECK THE WASHING MACHINE CONNECTIONS. THE FIRST THING HE DID WAS REMOVE THE TAPE THAT GEORGE PUT THERE AND THEN BRACED THE METAL HOUSE TO THE SIDE OF THE CABINET. PROBLEM SOLVED. I ASKED SEVERAL TIMES FOR YOUR PLUMBER TO COME AND CHECK IT OUT, BUT NEVER GOT A REPLY. SO I CALLED MY OWN AS I TOLD YOU I WAS GOING TO DO. " 5. This is the relevant part of the text I sent on July 13th "GOOD MORNING! I'VE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR ABOUT THE $100+ I HAD TO SPEND BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T GET THE PLUMBER BACK TO MY HOUSE TO FIX THE DISHWASHER CONNECTION. 6. This is the text I sent on July 19th "Does your lack of reply to my text on Tuesday, July 13th mean you don't yet have answers or that you do not intend to reply at all? Please repspond ASAP and let me know your intentions." 6. This is a copy of the invoice left by the plumber I had to hire when no response was forthcoming from Homestyles. I included this is my initial complaint 7. I see no reason to include "Copy of the purchase, delivery and installation date of the new dishwasher, and scope of work if any to install the new dishwasher." as Homestyles was not part of any new purchase. However, if a statement is needed about what the installer found when he replaced my old dishwasher, I will gladly request that he send me such a statement. 8. The request for Homestyle's plumber to come back to my house was made verbally many times to both Steve and George. If they deny this, then they either have bad memories or are choosing not to tell the truth. As regards Part 2 of this complaint (#XXXXXXXX): 1. Again, if neither George, the handyman, nor Steve, the quality control person, remember saying that the third pantry door George installed was warped, they either have very bad memories or are choosing to not tell the truth. 2. The doors are out of alignment not just at the "very bottom" as the owner states, but beginning approximately 25" from the top of the 80" door. The difference at the very bottom of the door is 3/8", not the 1/16" - 1/8" the owner claims. 3. I sent pictures of this with my original complaint. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2021/11/03) */ Nov.2, 2021 BBB Response for Part 1 - Complaint Case# XXXXXXXX -The Homestyles Group, Inc.- M. ****** 1) I am in Agreement with the Consumer's response. I am the owner, Mike ******, of the Homestyles Group. Prior to starting The Homestyles Group, Inc. I previously owned and operated a business in New Jersey that provided an Appliance Installation Service to Major Department stores and Appliance Center outlets. My business provided that service to nearly the entire State of New Jersey, Staten Island and parts of New York. I personally installed over 500 new dishwashers, and am more than qualified to connect a water supply line to a shut off valve and a drain hose to a disposal. 2) I did run the dishwasher through a cycle, testing for leaks and proper drainage in front of the Homeowner and my employee George. After this test, the homeowner commented that she had experienced a problem with the dishwasher draining IN THE PAST. After the test run, her old dishwasher drained properly, cycled properly, and NO clanging or banging noises were detected by me or the homeowner, nor were there any leaks at the shut off valve connection or the drain hose connection. If you were to check any manufacturer's installation instructions, covering all the steps that need to be followed to successfully install a dishwasher, I believe that you would not find any instructions to Clamp/Fasten/Support a Flex Water Supply Line Hose, along the path from shut off valve to the dishwasher, ON to any other surface. Her old dishwasher was re-connected by me, in the exact same manner that it was originally connected. The "Fix" that she paid some else didn't last, as we noticed that a "New dishwasher" was in place during our last visit. Her old dishwasher tired solenoid was likely the problempurchasing a new dishwasher is what achieved the "Problem Solved." Nov. 2, 2021 BBB Response for Part 2 - Complaint Case# XXXXXXXX -The Homestyles Group, Inc.-M.****** BBB Response for Part 2 - History of the "Frosted Glass" French Doors I stand by my previous response in its entirety... I would be open to visit your home to visibly inspect the pantry door in question... In addition, at that time, we would endeavor to adjust the doors to each other. If we were unable to achieve this " Due to a warped door," we would then file a claim with our supplier, asking to reorder and replace the door in question. Consumer Response /* (4200, 16, 2021/11/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Part 1 - Complaint Case# XXXXXXXX - The additional plumbing bill was to correct the horrible banging of the pipes after Mike and George reinstalled my dishwasher. They "corrected" this by using a lot of tape and wrapping it around all the pipes to stop the noise. This was an unsatisfactory and temporary "fix". I asked for a plumber to do it properly and said if they didn't call their plumber back, I would call my own. Since I never got a reply to that request, I called my own plumber. I explained this fully in my initial complaint. The cost for the plumber was $105. I included the invoice in my original filing. The fact that a leak was discovered when my new dishwasher was installed was mentioned only to show the carelessness of the work done by Homestles. It had nothing to do with the cost of a plumber to properly fix the banging of the pipes. Part 2 - Complaint Case# XXXXXXXX - I would be open to having that warped pantry door looked at. However, several attempts were made to correct the obvious problem at the time of the installation. All were unsuccessful. That was the 3rd door ordered by their supplier. If they can correct it by ordering door number 4 let them do so. However, I would prefer to just get a refund and have my pantry doors replaced by a competent company.
