5/17/24. Representative from discovery golf cars gave me a price for batteries and installation- he said he would clean up the inside of the battery case- the price was $1196.26. I agreed- the man came out and installed the batteries over the chunks of white acid, I told him to clean it or no deal, he took out the batteries and put some old batteries back that were not mine and left the cart in the middle of the street- I called Discovery and they said "too bad", they would pick it up in the morning - the new price would be $1455.74- $259 more than the original invoice which I have. They said they needed to put in 4 side rails. $259 for 4 rails seemed like they took advantage of the situation. I would like $159 bill adjustment, just pay for the rails.Business response

Discovery Golf Cars gave a price over the phone to the customer for a general battery install. Once we came to the location to install the batteries there was further damage to the battery tray preventing us from installing the new batteries. We told the customer we need to pick up the cart in order to fully evaluate the cart. The customer needed a battery tray in order to install the new set of batteries. Without the tray the batteries would fall through the bottom of the cart. We would have never picked up the cart if the customer did not want to do the work.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: they charged me for a 2nd installation because they installed over white chunks of acid and for cleaning that the salesperson who came to my house said was free- $1196 became $1455 because of bars underneath!

The bars underneath were not cleaned. We replaced them with brand new because the old ones would not hold the batteries.Initial Complaint

We called them to replace the battery in the golf cart. They provided two options: a standard battery or a lithium ion pack battery. They said the lithium would require no maintenance and would make the golf cart go faster. Despite the high cost, we selected this option due to those features plus longer warranty. When they dropped it off after putting in new battery they gave us a plug in cord only. They DID NOT disclose that the lithium battery **** higher voltage and would need a separate breaker. We plugged it into our garage outlet and it blew the **** outlet and messed up all the wiring in the garage. This could have caused a fire. We were given no instructions or informed of the need for a special breaker to charge the lithium battery.Business response

The Lithium battery pack was installed to factory standards. The cord provided is included from the factory. **************** told us the cord was plugged into a GFI wall plug in the garage. **************** told us that there was a refrigerator and a water softner plugged into the same wall receptacle. The cart is pick up and the installation is done at our location. We have no way of knowing what *************** installed in the receptacle.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:The issue is that no information was provided regarding Amp draw or electrical requirements for charging. I believe this information should have been provided so that we could make an informed decision and understand how to safely charge without incident. The price from electrician to fix the broken GFI and install a new receptacle is $430.

Discovery golf cars informs all customer on how to properly charge their golf cart. They already have a golf cart. All we did was install a new battery. They had there cart plugged into a outlet with a refrigerator and other high amp items. How are we supposed to know what the customer has plugged into the wall at there home. All we did was install new batteries. We had nothing to do with a new wall outlet at home. We never went to the house.
