I worked with Arnold "Arnie" Sherr of The Resume Store for a resume and cover letter between May 1, 2024 through May 9, 2024. While initially hopeful, several issues led to our collaboration ending abruptly. Communication and customization were significant concerns. Arnie's approach failed to capture my unique experiences, and he included all my LinkedIn jobs without consultation. The Resume Store didn't require an intake questionnaire, and drafts for two roles were nearly identical with generic cover letters. Arnie's materials were considered too wordy by several professionals in resume writing. He suggested submitting Word documents, which is not the industry standard. He disliked my detailed feedback on the first resume and cover letter drafts. I received an email stating that he'd refunded my money, citing, "I am refunding your money. It seems that you feel you know more about resume writing than a professional resume writer who has been perfecting resume writing skills for more than two decades. I feel that some of your edits are reasonable, and too many are not. Perhaps you can take over from here. Good luck moving forward.” I am thankful that got my refund. I learned through this experience that The Resume Store was not the right professional for me and Arnie is unprofessional. I am not a know-it-all and have a right to give constructive feedback. I am already working with another resume writer under the Professional Association for Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC), even one while I was working with The Resume Store. In hindsight, finding a resume writer who understands your unique background, career goals, and communication style is crucial. Trust your instincts and prioritize open communication. Remember, the goal is to create a resume and cover letter that accurately represents your qualifications. I hope my experience helps others make informed decisions when choosing a resume writing service that values collaboration and communication.

    The Resume Store Response

    05/11/2024

I did have an interaction with this customer. However, I do not wish to get into a back and forth with a customer who is probably feeling rejected because I refunded her money mid-stream and is retaliating in kind. Her interpretation of collaborating is different than mine. Hers is defined as "directing." She obviously feels she knows more about resume writing than a professional with 3 decades of experience. That is all I will say about that. The rest is simply an overreaction. Furthermore, as of today, May 5,2024, I have 100 5-star reviews that refute everything said in her review. On the contrary, The Resume Store's 100 5-star reviews attest that my customers experienced and appreciated the fact that I value collaboration and communication and understand their unique backgrounds, career goals, and communication styles.

    The Resume Store Response

    05/13/2024

After I sent her my email telling her of my refund, she sent this response.

"Thank you for the work you put into creating my resume and cover letter. While I appreciate your efforts, I was disappointed that you weren't more receptive to my feedback. As a professional resume writer with extensive experience, I would have hoped that you would have been open to collaborating with me to ensure that my documents accurately reflected my skills and experience.

While I'm sorry that things didn't work out as we had hoped, I still value the time and effort you put into this project. Best success to you and The Resume Store."

    Respectfully,

    *****

I feel she is acting out a feeling of rejection. I made a business decision based on her inability to communicate and collaborate in ways that were reasonable. Her edits were too numerous to deal with. My team and I produced an acceptable first draft that should have elicited a reasonable amount of edits, not an overwhelming number of total rewrites. We worked from her current resume and other information she provided during a lengthy consultation, which provided adequate information to create a formidable first draft, which she proceeded to remake. I certainly do not want to denigrate or in any way criticize a former customer on your website or on my ****** Business ******* ****** where she also posted a similar review. I believe she is reacting to being rejected, nothing more. Her reviews are extremely overblown or, should I say, exaggerated, extremely contrary to the 100 5-star reviews on my ****** My Business *******s.

If you feel her review is worthy of posting, that is your choice. It is not my decision.

The Customer's Perspective: A Rebuttal Against Gaslighting and Unprofessional Conduct:Thank you for the BBB ************ allowing me to respond to *****'s message. While I appreciate *****'s right to defend his business, I must reiterate that his response continues to dismiss my concerns and fails to address the core issues of communication and collaboration that led to my negative experience. At no point during our interactions did ***** express his concerns about my feedback or edits. He did not reach out to me to discuss any perceived issues or attempt to work through any misunderstandings. Instead, he abruptly ended our service agreement and refunded my money without giving me an opportunity to explain or address his concerns. He said on May 09, 2024 in email to me hours after I sent him feedback on the resume and cover letter he drafted thatI am refunding your money. It seems that you feel you know more about resume writing than a professional resume writer who has been perfecting resume writing skills for more than two decades. I have just short of 30 years of experience writing resumes. I don't mind receiving sensible suggestions and edits, but I do not appreciate being directed to do things that are contrary to acceptable resume writing standards. You said and I quote, "Clear communication, customization, and collaboration are vital for a successful resume writing experience." Again, and I repeat, you were not collaborating, you were dictating. I'll take my 100 5-star reviews over your 1-star review any day of the week or year. Good luck to you. While it is true that I did receive a refund, this does not negate the unprofessional behavior I experienced throughout our interactions.
