I am a chronic pain patience and was looking to ask Dr Mark ******* questions about the longevity of a spinal cord stimulator. This surgery is dangerous and painfully, but if it works, you no longer need to take pain medicine. They asked me to sign a release form so they could get all my medical records. I didn't have a problem with that, its standard practice. They received all of my most personal records showing all the back, hip and arm surgeries I had and all of the medicine I am on. What's shocking and most disappointing is they refused to see me to discuss the spinal cord stimulator. I asked why, and they said they did not feel that they could help me. Bazaar, here this is a pain clinic, I'm in a lot of pain and only wanted to ask questions and they refuse. Dr Mark ******* is a huge disappointment and I pity anyone else wanting his help, for they won't get it

Due to HIPPA it is virtually impossible to reply to this complaint in a meaningful fashion, but I will try. My staff spends a significant amount of time gathering relevant patient history and medical records for each person applying to become a patient. I cannot possibly see all the patients referred to me as I am a solo practitioner and see all patients personally. I have no extenders such as nurse practitioners or PAs. Therefore I have to use my best judgement from the data presented to decide which patient I am most likely to help, and which patients need the specialized techniques I offer. I reviewed your application and there was nothing in it regarding your question about stimulation, but spinal cord stimulation is only approved for the treatment of specific painful conditions. In general spinal cord stimulator batteries last 7-12 years, with many variables that would give a better estimate of battery lifespan. I would correct the inaccuracy regarding spinal cord stimulators being dangerous and painful. Quite the opposite, spinal cord stimulation has been performed since 1967 and is extremely safe with minimal discomfort from the trial procedure or from the permanent implant. If a patient has a problem that I feel can be adequately addressed by another practitioner I decline to accept them so I may see another patient that is in need of the specialized services that I offer. I also give priority to patients that do not currently have a pain management physician, so that as many patients as possible have a chance of maintaining or restoring function. I hope this addresses your complaint regarding my not agreeing to see you as a new patient, and that you are able to address your pain management questions with your current pain management physician.
