We ordered a self standing countertop for our kitchen.. Someone from Zsolt came to measure and do the template. . Two and a half months later they came with the countertop but they were not able to install it because according to the installer the wall was not going to support the weight of the countertop since it is just a partition that divide the kitchen from the living room and it doesn't have enough stoods to support a 500 pounds granite countertop plus the weight of the brackets so they refused to install it because of the liability it represent. The only way to put that countertop there was adding bottom cabinets which were " out of our budget". By doing that they will have to replace my countertop from a 16" to a 20" countertop for us to have leg room underneath. We agree to spend extra money for cabinets that we don't need but Zsolt refuse to exchange the countertop for a 20 inches deep top even if we agree to pay for the extra 4" of granite all around. It was their mistake from the beginning that we were not told that we can't put a self standing countertop on that wall, otherwise we could have come with a different plan. Now we are stock with a countertop that we can't use because even if we order new cabinets to put the top on top of it we will only have 4 inches left for leg room and that's not an option. We requested our money back for us to go with a different plan and they refuse to do that also.

      Business response

      10/06/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/09/07) */ The company that sold the stone to the *********'s (our customer) was unaware that we typically do not do this type of work and the templator that performed the template was also unaware since it had never been asked of him. Since we do not know how their wall is constructed only way we would be able to proceed is if they signed a waiver saying that we are not responsible if their wall fails. They did not want to sign the waiver so we are refunding them their money for the brackets and the area that was not removed. The reason we did not just add 4" is you cant just add stone to stone, it would have to be remade completely. If we tried to add 4" to the stone it would not look good at all and they would not be happy with the end result. A refund check is going in the mail to them. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/09/12) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The templater saw the wall and did not mention anything about the wall not be secure to add a floating countertop to it. The money they are returning back to us is just the money we paid them in advance for brackets we never received from them, an overcharge on the removal of a countertop that was never removed and $120.00 that was suppose to be what they charged for installation. We asked them to replace the countertop for a 20" instead of a 16" so we can add some cabinets to put underneath and at least have some extra leg room to seat and eat there and they refused to do that. Now we are stocked with a countertop that we can't use and we never received any money back for it and they refuse to take it back Later they came with an idea to install it but they wanted me to sign a waiver, a very convenient way to solve the problem they created themselves. We came with a solution for them to install it without having to sign a waiver which was adding supporting legs at front and they just declined the suggestion. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/09/13) */ As I stated in my previous statement our templator did not know that we did not do this type of work. Zsolt Granite did not sell this job, a third party did and their designer did not know that we did not do that type of work either. Our templator is not an installer, nor is he a builder, so unfortunately he is not going to know if their wall is sound or not it was once the installer got there are realized there could potentially be an issue that we contacted the customer and told them we would need to have a waiver signed releasing us of liability if their wall fails.. I am attaching the email correspondence showing that the customer is receiving money back for the brackets, installation of the brackets, installation of the piece we are not installing and an area we did not remove. We never asked them to sign waiver guaranteeing our work, we told them we can not do the work without them signing a waiver saying we are not responsible if their wall fails. We are not contractors, we do not know if their wall can hold that weight. The brackets that we were supplying was not the issue at all, it was their wall we were concerned about. It was at that time that they stated they just wanted their money back and that they would have another company perform the work that was left. They state in the email that they have found another company who is willing to do this work without a waiver. We have done exactly what they asked which is send them a check back for the brackets, installation of the brackets, removal that did not happen in that area and install that did not happen of the piece in question which again you will see in the emails attached. Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2022/09/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) It is a shame that this company is blaming the company that give them work. We originally went to a cabinet company to order our cabinets and I saw they had samples of granite there. When we asked they told us that they will take care of the cabinets and another company will make the countertops for us. We were ok with that. A few days later a lady from the cabinet place came to our house to take measurements to make sure the #s we gave them were ok. The granite place sent a guy to measure to do the templates. I believe that's the one who should tell us about the wall since this is his line of business or they should have sent someone to the house to make sure everything was ok before they do the job. We were surprised that they didn't even got a permit from the county to do the job. If they would have done that, we probably weren't in this situation now because we would have had a contractor from the county approving the installation. We decided to stop the back and forth with no results and ask for our money back. We spent a whole month dealing with them and we got tired of trying to solve the problem. As I mentioned before they REFUSED the idea of the supporting columns to make it secure. They never tried to come to a solution to fix their error. Im sure that from now on they will have someone inspecting where the jobs are going to be performed before they do it. This is not the first time we remodel a kitchen and never had a problem before just because they always sent a "professional" to look at the job before it is done. We are still demanding a replacement of the countertop for a 20" even if we have to go over our budget and order cabinets to place underneath or return the money we paid for the countertop Consumer Response /* (2000, 18, 2022/09/28) */ Check was finally received for the items they never installed (brackets, installation of brackets and countertop and overcharge of installation.
