On 11/1/21 I went to Courtney at Bay Pines to look at an apartment. I was charged 445.00 that day to fill out an application. Part was an application fee and the rest was a hold deposit. I have never rented an apartment and had no idea that the price I paid was way more than other apartment applications in the area. When I spoke to them shortly after they told me I needed approximately $75000-100,000.00 in my checking account to qualify because I am not employed. It took me a couple days, but I had to liquidate investments to transfer to my checking account ($100,000 transferred to checking on 11/3/21). This should have been told to me before any application was filled. My application was not submitted until 11/3 when I showed the transfer of 100k). I was then told I had a certain amount of time to cancel my application to get back 350.00 of my 445.00. I was questioning their practices and ended up signing a lease elsewhere on 11/10/21. I did cancel with Courtney in time, on 11/6/21 and waited for my refund. My daughter and I called to cancel, in front of a witness, in which they told us the application would be canceled and the amount refunded. After a few weeks I had not received my refund and I could not get anyone from Courtney to call me back. After I was told they would not refund me, I put a stop payment of the 350.00 ($445 minus the one $95 fee that I knew I owed) on 11/16/21, and I had the 350.00 credited back to my credit card. I canceled the stop check action with my credit card company on 11/23/21 after receiving a check in the amount of $350 from General Services Corp, and the bank repaid the $350 to the apartment complex. The check bounced after I cashed it because Courtney put a stop payment on it, and I was charged a fee for this as well. Courtney told me they canceled the check because of the stop payment I requested. My checking account was then debited on 12/1/21 the 350.00 to cover the stopped check. I am still out the original $350.00.Business response
