On June 20, 2023 ****************** company, Cabinets Plus and Design was working in the Waters Edge East condo unit 606, renovating. His crew broke a water pipe in the shower and reportedly did not know where the main shut off valve was. The water ran for approximately 45 minutes, drowning 40% of our unit below (505). 12 units had water damage. Something on a smaller scale happened to 506 (from 606 and a different crew of ***************) about two weeks before with a toilet leak and that crew didnt know where the shut off valve was either until the owner of 506 ran up and turned it off in 606. Our mitigation and renovation expenses have now exceeded $80,000.00. We were without water for two months, without toilets for almost 4 months, showers for 5 months while the rooms were gutted and repaired. **************** denied responsibility and would not give us his insurance information or establish a claim. We went through the county and got those details to file a claim.Business response

After reviewing ******************** complaint letter, it is evident that he lacks an understanding of the true events that occurred on June 20th, 2023.
My company was contracted by my clients in unit #*** solely to remodel their kitchen and relocate their washer and dryer. We were not contracted for, nor did we do any work in either bathroom. ******************** accusations regarding a toilet leak are unsubstantiated, as our client had this issue prior to us even being there. Additionally, the allegation of breaking a pipe is baseless; there were no broken pipes from this incident. Please refer to the attached photos, which clearly show the corroded s**** heads of the original master shower valve. When our subcontractor turned on the valve to fill a bucket with water, the valve came apart in her hand, this was no fault of hers.
It is important to note that this unit was newly purchased by my clients and was in poor condition, with all the original plumbing fixtures dating back to ****, and our client did not reside in the unit at the time.
My understanding was that some units below have some drywall and flooring damage. I dont understand how ****************** could claim he was without water, toilets, and showers for 2 to 5 months. If any of this is related to a pipe issue, again, we had no knowledge of faulty pipes, just corroded s**** heads of the shower valve. None of the pipes were affected by our hands.
Ive been a building contractor for 33 years and never had anything like this happen, so when ****************** called me wanting my insurance company information, I declined, as I am clearly not the one to go after in this situation. Furthermore, I was unsure of the appropriate protocol. I recommended to ****************** that he should call his own insurance company to figure this out, and if needed, their insurance would notify my insurance company if they felt that it was our fault. All other affected parties seemed to have contacted the appropriate people to handle their claims without an issue.
In conclusion, this is an unfortunate incident for everyone involved but we firmly believe this was no fault of my company or my subcontractor. The valve malfunction was inevitable and would have occurred regardless of who touched it.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:ConsumerMost Recent MessageDate Sent: 2/26/2024 8:27:41 AM
******************** crew caused a water pipe to break in 606 and did not shut off the water for approximately 45 minutes. Our unit was the recipient of most of the water and subsequent damage. Servpro was in our unit for almost 3 weeks mitigating the resulting damage. During that time the water pipes were shut off for related repair purposes. If ******************** workers had simply shut off the main water valve in 606 when the break occurred, we wouldn't be having this conversation. It took 5 months for all of the resulting walls, ceilings, vanities, flooring, baseboards, painting, etc. to be repaired from his damage.
Sincerely,
*******************
