On 08/26/2021, Mr. ***** ******* entered into an agreement with us to pour a stamped concrete slab in our back patio and construct a semicircular driveway in the front yard. Mr. ******* quoted a price of $6000 and asked for in advance of $3000 to begin the job. 09/18/2021 he prepared both locations leaving behind two bare dirt spaces and the casement for the backyard slab. At that time, he was given a check for $1500 to pay the crew that did the work. Mr. ******* assured us that he would return within a week's time to complete the job but did not, citing difficulties hiring a crew, and we agreed to give him more time to finish the work. This cycle repeated itself for several days until under threat of taking him to Small Claims Court he showed up to complete the backyard job. He then requested a further payout of $468 for other expenses which we paid on 10/02/2021, via phone app. Around the same time, after many complaints about the condition of the front yard, he covered the mud with sand and large rocks. After completing the backyard job on 10/14/2021, he indicated that he would return the following week to finish the driveway and asked for an additional $1000 which paid bringing the total amount of payments to Mr. ******* to $5968. After setting different dates to return to the job several times, another company was hired company to complete the driveway, and their agent was asked to give an estimate as to the value of the completed (backyard) work. He appraised the completed work between $1600 and $2000. With this in mind, we asked Mr. ******* for a refund of $4000. Mr. ******* complained about our decision, and we told him we would take him to Court. He then said he would return some materials he had already bought for the job and drop off the check within days. Since then, he responded to telephone calls sporadically with excuses not bringing the refund. Eventually, he stopped answering our phone calls and he has not been heard from since early November.
