We sent our child to ***'s Barcelona Experience in early 2020. The child was 12. We were assured of constant supervision and competent chaperones, but we learned upon arriving home that the *** chaperones did not supervise the players when they were in the dorms, allowing older boys to mix with the younger boys. Our child was exposed to violent *********** and other disturbing material. This went on the entire time our child was in the care of ***, even though their father was staying at a nearby hotel. Because *** does not allow the players to leave the dorm to see parents, we were unaware of what was happening. *** claimed to have a no-phone policy at the dorms so our child did not have one. However, older boys used their phones continually, showing violent *********** to younger players and, according to our child, the chaperones knew of this but did nothing about it. Instead they socialized instead of looking after the players. We trusted *** to look after our child and they failed. The reason it has taken ** so long to file this complaint is for two reasons: one, our child was traumatized and did not share with ** what had happened until much later. Traumatized kids don't share their trauma right away. By late 2020 our child finally told ** a little abut it and I complained to ***. A rep told me that the company had in fact fired several of the chaperones. But as time went on, our child shared more with us and the level of trauma became clear when we had to seek therapy for them due to this experience and what our child saw and was exposed to. Second, I didn't know until this week that ***/FC Barcelona was considered a ****-based company and that I had could file a complaint with the BBB. I'd like a partial refund. We have spent a great deal of money on therapist bills because of this experience.
