      I just wanted to verify and clarify that my request is simple . This agency gives check approvals to merchants and a check my co wrote was denied but we verified with my financial advisor at ****** ***** that I have  ample funds in my account . This was disconcerting.Thank you

      Because of the high amount of fraud occurring, particularly in that area/industry, the verification of information is key.  The decision to approve or not approve a check for guarantee is based upon a series of risk algorithms that consider such things as dollar amount of the transaction and the number of checks issued to our merchants in the past, as well as our ability to verify the information provided at the time of the transaction, such as the telephone number or address. 

      To approve or not approve a check for guarantee is akin to a contingent extension of credit (if the check is returned unpaid for any reason). *** reserves the right to decide which checks it will guarantee and which checks it will not guarantee as a matter of its sound business judgment.The merchant can call into *** in order to process the transaction.

      UTA is a payment processing company, one service amongst a portfolio other services we offer to our Merchants, based on a Service Agreement between UTA and UTAs Merchant.  UTA Agreements are proprietary.  UTA reserves the right to decide which payments it will guarantee and which payments it will not guarantee.  UTA is not sure what the consumer is looking for in this situation, since the transaction was not processed through UTA.  If the Merchant accepted the consumers payment,which would be its decision to make, that would be between the consumer and the Merchant.

      I was denied buying business equipment for my business from my supply house with my business check. I called my bank from the counter at the supply house and the bank said they have no problems on their end, it was the approval company issuing the denial!! This is ridiculous!

      According to the consumer they did not require any response,however, just to clarify, UTA is a private company engaged in the check guarantee/payment processing business for merchants throughout the United States.  As a private company, UTA reserves the right to decide which checks it will guarantee and which checks it will not guarantee as a matter of its sound business judgment. As a private company, UTA is under no obligation to guarantee any particular transaction. The consumer should understand that all of our merchants always have the right and ability to accept the consumer's check in payment without a guarantee from UTA. That would be a business decision for our merchants with which *** would have no involvement. The consumer is also free to make purchases with cash or credit cards (if credit cards are accepted by the merchant).
      As a check guarantee company, if UTA guarantees a payment for its Merchant, UTA is obligated to reimburse that Merchant if the payments returns unpaid for any reason based on a Service Agreement between UTA and UTAs Merchant.  UTA Agreements are proprietary.

When I called CWS they told me they have no way of telling why it was denied. They gave me an email to contact them for reason of denial. I still have not heard from them.

      I attempted to pay by check at American Furniture Warehouse in ****************, **. The amount of the check was $ ********. The check was denied by United Tranzactions and I was given a card with the denial code (uploaded). When I called their ************ number, they refused to talk to me. Their agent said the merchant had to call them, as they had no record of the transaction. My checking account has a substantial balance and the bank has no record of any alerts or holds. This was extremely embarrassing, and I want an explanation from thus company as to why this happened.

      On Feb 2, 2024 I attempted to purchase tires from Discount Tire in *************, **. The check I wrote, in the amount of $2,266.28 was refused by the vendor after calling United TranzActions. No explanation was offered. I called the telephone number on the card to inquire and was told the denial code was incorrect. I looked up the corporate number and called, again was told the denial code was incorrect, but was given an email address to ask about the denial (cws@upallc). I wrote them today, and the e-mail was undeliverable.I simply want a specific explanation as to the reason my check was denied, and what they have corrected in their system to prevent this from happening to me in the future.

      On 05/25/2023 I was informed I could do a 90 day program through the dealership but I needed some bank issued checks because the 3rd party system they use only accepts them kind of checks. I ordered checks on 05/26/2023 and they arrived on 06/13/2023 and I paid my deposit for the 90 day program and was informed I was approved. Upon returning once my car was finished working on 06/15/2023 they informed me UTA denied my checks. They provided me with a phone number and the rep kept telling me i had to send an email and they would send me an letter within ***** hours on why but they cant tell me. I spoke with multiple reps who kept saying the same thing so I finally asked for a supervisor because nobody could tell me what determines how a check is approved. These are checks I had to pay for and are issued through my bank. The supervisor basically said they couldn't tell me why and I informed her these are valid checks issued through the bank. I feel they have no valid reasons and their customer service is terrible, they just ask u for a denial letter constantly before they will tell u they cant provide no information or transfer your call. They refuse to help you and its totally unacceptable

      To United Transactions: On 4/21/2023, while attempting to purchase a sleeper sofa at ************************************** (R&F) located at ************************************************************************ was informed by the R&F cashier that my personal check in the amount of $1,536.88 was "flagged" and could not be accepted as a form of payment. Flabbergasted, I asked for an explanation by from the R&F cashier and was told that no further explanation was available and that I should call United Transactions (UT) ************. I called UT and spoke to ******** (Director) and she informed me that there was no explanation that she could be provide (as to why my check was flagged/refused). ******** recommended that I contact UT via email and request that you provide me with a written explanation as to why my check was flagged/refused by R&F (UT reference number - **********).I also called my credit union to find out why my personal checking account would be flagged by UT. They too were completely surprised. They assured me that there were no issues with my account and that I had sufficient funds to cover the purchase. As suggested, I reached out to United Tranzactions and requested that they provide a written and specific explanation as to why my personal checking account was flagged and refused by this company. My husband and I are longtime customers of R&F and have never had any issues spending our hard-earned money in their store before. On 4/25/2023, I did receive a scripted response from from UT basically outlining generic reasons as to why my check may have been declined. They also suggested that I apply for their VIP Preferred Check Writers Program. With still no specific explanation why UT targeted my check, I am now supposed to obtain their pre-approval to spend my money at retail outlets that have hired UT to do their check authorization? Until I receive a specific reason why my check was flagged, I will continue to assume that my account was profiled and targeted by UT.

      After researching, it appears that a UTA representative,  who is also a Manager, did speak with the consumer and maintained the position that, because of the high amount of fraud occurring,particularly in that area/industry, UTA in some instances, requires the merchant to call in in order to process the transaction.  (For the record,UTA is unaware of why the merchant did not call into UTA).  At that point,the Manager offered to reprocess the check in question.  However, the consumer confirmed she had already paid with another form of payment.  
      With that being said, UTA would like to reiterate that as a private company, *** is under no obligation to approve any person's check for guarantee, and its risk decisions are within its own discretion. UTA reserves the right to decide which checks it will guarantee and which checks it will not guarantee.

      On February 1st, we wrote a check to a company that uses UTA to process their checks. The check did not clear and the vendor that was accepting the check asked that we contact UTA. The first response you get from UTA is "reference number". They do not ask how you are doing or how they can help you today, they just get straight to the point, and with an extremely rude tone. I ended up having to call back 6 different times and speak to six different incompetent employees, so you can imagine the frustration every time. They would not disclose why the check did not clear even though funds were in the account. They were not helpful in any way, even after I attempted to get the bank involved, they wanted no part of it. Hands down the rudest six customer service reps that I've ever spoke to, it's like they train their staff to be rude. I'm not big on writing reviews or complaints, but this company is so bad at what they do that it warrants a complaint. Hopefully with enough people speaking out the company will go bankrupt.

      In response to the consumer complaint, It appears the consumer is under a few misconceptions.  First , United TranzActions, LLC (UTA) is a private company engaged in the check guarantee/payment processing business for many merchants.  As a private company, UTA is under no obligation to approve any person's check for guarantee, and its risk decisions are within its own discretion. In some instances a decision is based on insufficient positive check writing history available to UTA at the time the check was presented. Nevertheless, UTA reserves the right to decide which checks it will guarantee and which checks it will not guarantee. 

      Unfortunately, based on the information given, *** was unable to find any transactions concerning a personal check for this consumer.If the consumer would like to provide additional information about the payment,for example, perhaps a different phone number was used when processing the check, or perhaps it was a business check and not a personal check, UTA would be happy to assist.

      Within the past month and a half we have had 2 separate business transactions stopped with 2 different vendors who use United Tranzaztions to process/verify checks from their customers. I have followed the process given to me from the vendor to call in to United's check denial claim line and both times been told they could not release the check allowing the transaction to continue. I was told that I needed to email them for the full denial reason. On the first denial I followed the request to submit the email and I received back a canned letter that never clearly stated why they would not clear the check or what I needed to do to remedy the issue. I suspect it will be the same this second time as well. I have also completed the paperwork to become a "preferred check writer" just short of 4 weeks ago and have not heard anything back from United and now another check has been stopped. This is affecting our ability to conduct business and causing harm to our business because we cannot complete purchases for critical items we need to keep our crews moving and complete our projects on time.

      I am rejecting this response because:

      This is a formatted response and does nothing to address the requested corrective actions I listed in my initial complaint. I am asking very little to correct this issue. I have asked for a representative to call me to work through getting my company onto your "Preferred Check Writer" program so these declined check issues will stop with my vendors. I understand that your statement that the vendor can accept the check or not, but these companies contracted with your company to basically tell them to accept or not to accept a check. They listen to your company based on the direction given. Thats the whole point of a vendor working with you; tell me if this check is good or not.

      Until someone from your company gets in touch with me or my office to complete the process of the "Preferred Check Writer" program or how to get you the needed information to have a complete file on my business, I will reject your response. This is the direction your company gave me to do so this would stop and I have followed it. It is now up to your staff to follow your own processes to close this out. This is not a big ask of your company.
