I met with John in early February 2022 to get a quote on painting my home and my lanai deck and pool trim - he had painted a neighbor's home and it look professional and she seemed pleased, John sent me a proposal by email 2/3/22. I was out of town at the time and when I returned, I sent him a check for $1900.00 deposit on 2/28/22. I submitted my paint request to my HOA on 3/18/22. The work was scheduled for April. John called me and told me he was working on a job and it would be in May before they could paint. I said no problem. John had told me the always review their work and make any touch ups needed. He also said he guarantees his work. He started around the week of May 16th.. they arrived early each morning, worked till about noon and then were gone. The first day they did the power washing and prep work - then painted the soffits, and gutters along with the prep for the house...the next day started the painting of the house rolling over the stucco which had been yellow to a blue color. John and his helper were nice and helped me change out some outside lights and my front door hardware. I did give them a $200 tip for helping with that. The last day they were their painting the lanai and trim was 5/19/22 - John always seemed in a rush to finish - I was told not to be on the lanai for 48 hours. I paid them and they left. Neighbors came over to look at the job and were finding alot of areas that were not covered by the new paint. I called John and ask him to come back and touch up - I told him I would mark the area's with painters tape, he ask me not to as he didn't want it to be seen of all the locations there were to touch up. I did mark as many places as I could find. I also sent him pictures of paint on my screens, paint on the bar outside the kitchen window. blue paint on the white paint, drops of blue paint on the white lanai deck etc. I need them to correct the lanai and pool trim that was not finished correctly -he refuses.

      Business response

      08/16/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/08/07) */ my response to this complaint is. Me and my co-worker did a complete and professional job for this customer we did a walk throw and she was 100% satisfied and paid the balance in full, then a week and half went by and i received a call from the customer she had her neighbor inspect the job again after she told us that she was satisfied, so we went back and touched up some other areas that they saw, which where very tiny areas so after we did our touch ups we asked if she was satisfied and she told me yes and she was very happy. So i feel that we are completed with this project and will not be going back. My Company has been in business for over 24 years and this is my first complaint, i guess you can't always Satisfy every one Sincerely John C R. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/08/08) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) John, told me he was a professional painter - He said they would check everything before they left and would make sure it was done completely. Yes of course I paid he the day they finished thnking they had done their due dilegence of checking their job. They told me I had to stay off the deck of the lania for 48 hours so there was no way to check that area before they left. Yes, I did walk around and found lots of areas that were not covered, paint on my screens and drips on the bar top and lanai, front porch tile an pool tile. All I want is the paint job on the pool to be completed the way it should have been - it is far from being a professional job - you already have the pictures of the missed spots all the way around the pool. **** makes promises and then never backs them up. He ask kme not to mark the places with painters tape that had not been covered because he didn't want people to see the insufficent job he did. He said he had a guarantee with his work - however he refuses to do so!!! Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2022/08/09) */ This response was taken verbally by BBB: This home has been painted several times. When we paint a house we tape-off and cover all surfaces. This house is a thick stucco. At the end of the job, we walked around with the customer and also installed lights for free and installed her door knob before she paid us. There were pinhole spots that weren't covered with the original coating even though we did all we could to ensure full coverage. A week and a half later, the customer and her neighbor went around and marked all the spots with blue tape. The customer, my co-worker and myself all walked around the home and made sure the customer pointed out all the spots the customer was concerned about. We also walked around the home afterward with the customer after we finished the touch-ups the customer requested. At no time during the original walk around or the touch-up walk around did the customer bring up any issues with splatter or the pool deck/copping. Now, months later, the customer is alleging these new issues. Pool decks/copping are not warrantied by Sherwin Williams or us. This deck was previously painted and had chipping and peeling on the surface. During the initial quote process, we made the customer aware that the condition of the deck was unknown and that there are no warranties. In addition, they take 72 hours to cure, not 48. The customer has ceramic waterfalls and 2 large dogs. We do not know what occurred after we left. The spots indicated in the pictures do not appear to be "missed" spots, but rather areas that were washed/rubbed off before fully curing. The customer has touch-up paint for all of the paint we used. In regards to the customer's statement about us leaving in the middle of the day. Painting is a process and sometimes it requires time for one step to properly dry. For example, when pressure washing, that is all you can do that day until it dries. The same with sealing and patching cracks, our sealer requires a 12 hour dry time. Due to the fact that pool decks/copping are not warrantied as well as the behavior of the customer, we will not be going back out to this customer's home. Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2022/08/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) First - John said he guarateed his work - which apparently he does not. Second - I never got in the pool until my daughter came to visit in July, so I had NO idea of the missed areas on the coping until you get in the pool. Third - it was not 1 week and a half after the painting when I advised John of issues on the house - it was within days - yes, my neighbor came over to see the job and as we walked around we saw several areas and I called John - he came out to touch up a week and a half later. Forth - he NEVER walked around with me when the initial job was completed - he took the check in which I included a $200 tip for helping with the lights and lock.. it wasn't as if he did those things with no reward. You can look at the dates of my pictures and read the text messages and see that he has said does not match up. I have filed a complaint with DBPR and also the Attorney General - all I want is the job to be completed for which I paid!
