The heat pump in our new house did not cool (no A/C) when we FIRST moved into the new Highland Home (*********** community -- *****,**. on 8-28-23). It took ******** 1 & 1/2 weeks to fix that problem (on a brand new ******* unit). Then along came the cooler weather (fall/winter) and now we have NO heat from this same ******* unit!******** has been out trying to repair this ******* unit on at least 4-5 occasions replacing several parts, however the unit still produces "NO HEAT"!The unit is presently under warranty, however when that warranty expires then what?I decided to look on the internet to see how ******** A/C **** was rated and we were surprised at their POOR rating. We never do business with a company rated that poorly (2.89 out of 5) and for good reason. I honestly don't believe most orher folks would either. However they (********) are now getting work from some new Home builders (probably because they low bid on their contracts)? ** Just a word of advice to consumers ** avoid using them if possible and if they were the A/C contractors in your new house "BUY FROM A DIFFERENT BUILDER".Review from Luz T

They charged me $415.00 to replace a warrantied part. I can understand $200.00 dollars but that is ridiculous. Just to be clear this was during regular business hours. They over charge. The units they use are of poor quality. Multiple issues with lazy employees in the past when they came out during an issue I had under one year of owning the house.Review from Paul T

Had a complimentary preventative maintenance tuneup yesterday. Pete, the technician, was very thorough during the inspection and very professional. He explained all of my options and also gave me a refresher course on the thermostat.Review from Carlo K

Just had sunkool out to my house because my ac just stopped working. Having 3 kids in the house with no ac, in the summer is brutal in itself. My ac was working in about an hour. The techs were so nice and helpful. Definitely a great honest company. I would recommend them to all my family and friends.Review from Ed F

People usually come to the BB site to complain.which is why you see so many p[oor reviews. Can't make everyone happyt all the time and "stuff" does happen. I'll try to mitigate the complaints a bit. We had 4 quotes for A/C replacement and Sun Kool was not the lowest by a relatively small amount but what convinced me to go with them was the rep who came to my home to prepare the quote (Scott). Of the 3 others who came by (all quoting the identical Carrier equipment right down to the part number) they were just salespeople. One of them was just some kid who literally knew nothing about A/C systems but just knew how to quote a price and the other 2 were basically car salesmen with enough knowledge to make a sale. I guess I am in the minority of home owners here that have a lot of technical knowledge and like to get technical explanations when I spend 7G's on a new A/C system. :-). Anyway system was installed on schedule by a pair of overworked technicians who busted their butts in 90+ temps for 4 hours but now it's nice and "SUN-KOOL" here in our house. Just for full transparency, I have not needed any service from them and hope I never will so I can't write about that. Hopefully **IF** I do it will be as postive an experience as the install (and Scott) provided.Review from Don O

Sun Kool had installed our HVAC system when the house was built, we found their information in our home warranty book and when the need to have our A/C serviced came up, we contacted them. I have owned several primary properties along with multiple rentals and have never experienced an HVAC company with as excessive pricing policies as Sun Kool. I completely understand that a trip charge ($99) is common, and agree that this makes sense since in many cases work might not need to be done, so this helps offset their expenses. My experience is that if work is done, the trip charge is applied to the total charge. I was surprised to see this was not the case with Sun Kool, not only did I have to pay the $99, but also $145 for labor to install a capacitator (part covered under as under warranty). The work took no more than 20-30 minutes to complete…..this is from when the tech arrived to when he took my card information. Ironically, my daughter in CO is a student and to have her heater serviced, that took over an hour and the total labor was $95.00, with no trip fee. My recommendation is to avoid this overpriced company, read the other reviews (we didn’t) before hiring and go with another company. I contacted them and was told that “yes” trip charges are on top of any work as that is their policy!Review from William S

I was recently charged $159.30 for a capacitor on a carrier air conditioning unit during an annual inspection. As a retired professor of electrical engineering who has taught motors and controls theory for 37 years and also owned an electrical contracting company, I was very familiar with the component, but not current prices. I thought the price was high when similar capacitors used to sell for $15-20, but I paid it anyway. Afterwards, I found the identical capacitor selling for $17.10 on the internet. Realizing the price was exorbitant, I called a competitor, Munns HVAC, and was told their price was $65, which I thought was reasonable. This included installation, when performing an annual inspection. Believing I was overcharged, possibly by mistake, I called Sunkool and was told this was their price and there would be no adjustment. Interestingly, the same technician serviced my neighbor's unit and he also told her the capacitor needed replaced. Coincidence, possibly; scam, maybe. Although not a lot of money, the implication of such an extreme mark-up on parts forces me to use other contractors.Sun Kool Air Conditioning, Inc. Response

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Since the time of writing your review our Service Manager has already reached out to see what can be done to salvage our relationship.
During a preventive maintenance like you had where the system is working, it is our professional job to diagnose any possible symptoms that might indicate a weak part that could fail and cause the unit to shut down completely leaving you in the heat. In regards to capacitors, they have a certain electrical range they should operate within that is listed right on the part itself. This is a definitive and quantifiable process. On yours and your neighbor's systems our technician tests the capacitor to see if it falls in that proper range. If it doesn't pass then Sun Kool provides you the option of proactively changing the capacitor so the system doesn't fail or you can leave it and gamble on how long it will last.Customer Response

I recently had a large Lanai put on the back of my home by ****************, and of all the sub contractors that were used by far the worse was Sun Kool. First all they did was complain about****, and say what a messed up job they knew it would be. Sun Kool took most of this first day trying to get the materials they need for the second day. The second day all they did was complain because they did not have the materials for the second day. I told them they left early yesterday to get their own materials and they did not bring what they needed again. Finally after a lengthy installed it did work., except they had not brought a few other items to finish.a Sun Kool employee looked me straight in the face and said they would be back tomorrow but never showed again. Finally after a call to T & D and SunKool another crew finally came back to finish...I can't tell you how, many times a Sun Kool employee has looked me straight in the face and promise to be back tomorrow and never show..LIE STRAIGHT TO YOUR FACE! Move forward one year I call for the first maintenance...they tell me the first Maintenance is free..I specifically tell them to bring a filter ...they say it's a charge of over $50 but I tell them to bring it anyway ...the tech shows up on Friday to to the service with no filter...I can tell he does not really want to do the service and ask if I want to reschedule and he will bring a filter...I told him to do the service and bring back the filter...HE LOOKS ME STRAIGHT IN THE FACE AND SAYS HE WIL BE BACK SOMETIME TOMORROW WITH THE FILTER ...AND AGAIN NEVER SHOWS UP
on Wednesday the next week tech return to install the filter and brings the wrong oneHe says they have to order the filter and has no idea when he will be back to install it now almost a week from the origin service date....SUN KOOL employees have no problem looking you straight in the face and lying, and the bad thing is that they know they are doing IT .Equipment finally turned out good but for Sun Kool services SUCK!Sun Kool Air Conditioning, Inc. I called on a weekend, the first repair man came out told us it needs a new control board. It was ordered and a second person came to install. He did but then stated we needed more Freon. We didn't have problems with the air prior, it was cold. It was the heat that was not working.Then stated we would have to pay over $300 per pound for more as our Freon was difficult to find . I told him no, I would seek a second opinion. Another company came the next day stated Freon was all over the pipes and wires were still hanging out. I will never use this company again and would recommend people beware especially widowed women. They just wanted to take advantage of the situation. Very sorry to hear your heat was not working over the weekend and you had a bad experience. Sometimes in our business we have to fix one issue before we can diagnose that there is another issue. No one was trying to take advantage of the situation.Customer Response

Just to let Sun Kool be aware. Sometimes repair people do take advantage. I had another company come out they didn't say are Freon was difficult to get an they were not charging an outrageous price for it. I have learned my lesson and if I can help someone not make the same mistake, this is why I did this.
