    My family and I were patients for many years. A couple years ago they changed the name of the business to **********************. At that point, without my knowledge, my insurance company *********** Blue Shield) dropped them as a provider. Since I wasnt made aware of that we all continued to go there. However I started to question things after my husband ended up paying almost $1800 out of pocket. Then my son had a routine exam which should have been free but we were charged $140. I asked them if they no longer took my insurance. Front desk lady checked her PC and said according to OUR system we still take your insurance. So I called BCBS. They said no, they are not on your list of approved providers anymore, and this has been the case ever since they changed names back in 2021/2022. I went back to the front desk lady and questioned the misinformation she gave me and her response was: "well OUR system says youre covered and thats what we go by. If the insurance company says youre not covered then we cant make them say otherwise. regardless its your responsibility to know if youre covered or not. She also very kindly added that if I had a problem with this she could go ahead and review all of our past services and rebill them without any discounts at all, since they had been doing me a "favor" this whole time. I was so confused. What favor? BCBS told me the out of pocket wouldve been $600 if I had had an in-network provider, not the $1800 that I paid **************. Now this woman was acting offended that I was unhappy, and even threatening to charge me even more money for claims that were already paid! At that point I just paid the $140 I owed them, and notified her we would not be returning. About 2 months later, I received a bill for $495 for services dating back almost a year. Looks like the front desk lady followed through with her threat to resubmit my old claims and remove any discounts. I dont know if this is ethical or even legal. I need help.
