2/12/24 I took my car into Rudys Auto ****************************** I signed off on an agreement that stated if my final bill was to exceed $100 that the work on the car would have to be agreed upon. After reaching out multiple times for an estimate I was told I would not receive one unless I came in. I came into the shop and receive an estimate that I did not sign off on. I told him I wanted to look into other avenues. After doing so I showed up to have my car towed to a new shop. He had disassembled my vehicle and said he would not allow us to tow the vehicle unless I paid $711.0 for tear apart / reassembly. According to the ***** You can cancel repairs if they exceed the estimate and the repair shop must reassemble the vehicle, unless it is unsafe to drive. The shop may charge you for tear-down and reassembly only if you were given notice of that charge on the estimate. There was no notice given of these charges in the initial document. Nor did I give any approval for work to proceed on the car. The shop also did not put the car back together, they tore it apart and expect a payment as well as left it torn apart. The shop owner is now threatening to send the car to impound if he is not paid the amount. He also said if we did not leave his shop we were going to get hurt. He is holding the car and trying to have it impounded. Currently no money has been exchanged with the shop.Business response

The outcome of this event was not anything anyone wanted. We did as you asked us to, We were not the party that prepared the estimate of damage. That was your insurance company for clarity. We only acted in good faith for support. We then did as they requested which was identify all possible damages not able to be seen behind leading body parts. What you signed in person was authorization or permission to repair the vehicle. Clearly not the description you make. I had nothing to do with the fact that at this or the early stage of the process you own insurance company "denied" the claim. I will not go into any assumption as to why they did this but it never is done without errors being on behalf of the policy holder.
I am sorry that the charges had already been too late to reverse from the already reduced or waived amounts leaving us with the most considerate amount possible. My hopes are at this point a learning for us all that leads to a prevention of such a situation in the future. I'm sorry that at this point it is sadly a legal matter in the courts which adds a cost of council and reverse actions given the sabotage to us the innocent party. I'm sorry this placed us in a position of such extreme waste of funds. That will likely exceed the cars value even. All the best. ****'s Autobody
