Next Car's communication with me before my arrival for pick-up was subpar. The confirmation email had several typos, which is unprofessional and unpolished for a business trying to compete with *****, Enterprise, and the like for customers. The per-day cost is less expensive than larger competitors; however, the deposit hold is ridiculous and misleading. The confirmation email stated that the deposit/hold would be, and I quote, directly from the confirmation email... " The security deposit varies from $250 USD to $500 USD for all cars."I was told upon pick up that my security deposit was $2,500.... yes.... TWO-THOUSAND FIVE-HUNDRED DOLLARS. When I asked the staff member who was checking me in why the cost was so high, and why was it different than what was shared in the confirmation email, which I showed him, he stated that he was not sure, and that is what the system determined based on the car I chose. I even showed him the email which stated the deposit would be $1,000 (which was also contradictory to what was stated in the confirmation email, but he said there was nothing he could do. Instead of arguing, holding up the line, or getting my fiance even more upset, I told him to run my card and begrudgingly accepted the security deposit. The security deposit amount being sprung on me after traveling across the country for several hours is unacceptable, especially when it directly opposes what was stated in my confirmation email. Moving forward, I would never utilize NextCar or recommend anyone to do so.Initial Complaint

I picked up my rental car on 12/13/24. When I picked up the car I was charged an additional $443.96 I was not expecting as the vehicle was already reserved through ************** I did not have any other options, I paid for the full-sized sedan instead of the compact car I agreed to on the booking. On 12/17/24 I returned my rental car to NextCar at *****************************************************************. The car was returned in the same condition as received. I have waited 2 months now for my $250 deposit to be returned. I have emailed many times and attempted phone calls with no resolution. I come to find there are many people with the same complaints about this business. I want compensation for my time, the extra they charged me, and the credit card interest from the deposit.Initial Complaint

I rented the car from this company on January 1, 2025. My experience was bad from the very beginning. The gentleman at the counter demanded to see my declarations page on my car insurance which I did not have as I was traveling from **** to ******* for a funeral. He would not accept my insurance card that I had on my State Farm app. I had to call my husband and he had to locate the declarations page. Then the gentleman told me to go out and check the car for any damage before I drove off. The car was parked in the darkest spot of the parking lot. I had to use my cell phone flashlight to inspect the vehicle in the dark. I asked what the earliest time was for me to return the vehicle to get a shuttle for my flight out the next day. They asked what time I needed to be at the airport, I said 6 AM and they said that that should be fine. Not very reassuring. So I ended up turning the car in a night early and taking an **** from the rental company to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport, thus incurring additional expenses. I have received my credit card bill and it still shows the $250 security deposit on there. I have called and emailed the company and was told it would be refunded in ***** business. Yesterday was the 30th business day and still no refund. And now I have a finance charge on my credit card. I just got off the phone with their customer service line after waiting for ************************************************* The representative said she would send another email. I asked to speak to a supervisor and there was no one that she could let me speak to to get this remedied today.Initial Complaint

I reserved a car rental on 12/27/2024 with NextCar, **********. I realized within 5 minutes that my daughter did the same with another company. Since I needed only one car, I called the NextCar main number within about 20 minutes to cancel the reservation. I was told that the car was canceled but they needed to talk with the location in ******* to get the credit issued but was told it should not be a problem since it was canceled so quickly. They put me on hold for about 15 min. but returned and said they could not reach the location but I would receive a confirming call back within 24 hours. I never got the call. I also called **************** to cancel the payment which was $336.73. which they said they would investigate. They too advised me that they could not get through to NextCar ******* but assured me that they would continue. They immediately removed the charge temporarily from my account. I just received a notice from **** that the refund was denied. This reservation was canceled within 20 minutes and I was told by the main office that it would not be a problem. I since checked NextCar reviews and they are absolutely horrible. It looks like this is standard practice for them. This kind of business practices should never be allowed.Customer Answer

There was not a service agreement or a contract. This was for a car that was rented by mistake that I tried to cancel 20 minutes after making the reservation.Initial Complaint

I had booked a Rental Car with NextCar for the Period of De 29th 2024 to Jan 3rd 2025 using *************. They had advertised low daily rates to attract customers and when you go to pick up car they rob everyone by forcing to buy the Insurance even if you have an insurance.they charged about $206 for Insurance extra and they also charged Toll invoice of almost $100 even though I didn't use their ezpass and paid tolls by cash.Initial Complaint

This was by far the worst car rental experience Ive ever had. It took an hour and a half to get from the airport to the car rental place via car rental shuttle and once I got there, I was told that I was late and I could no longer have the vehicle that I rented, but I could have a much smaller vehicle or I could have a van for an additional Charge of $480!!! This happened after I watched them do the same exact thing to two other families but they offered the family before me the van for $200. When I said I was going to complain and post reviews they canceled my car and I had to get my family an ***** This was the most blatant disregard for customer service that Ive ever heard of. As a matter of fact, I think its their business model to rip customers off; I would never ever ever recommend Nextcar!!!Initial Complaint

I order a rental for 12/23/24 - 01/03/25. I was given a mission ****** that failed to start on 12/25/24, I had to call *** after the company would not offer any assistance to bring the car back to switch out. *** confirmed the battery was no good and couldnt hold a charge long, and jumped the car. The new car a ****** Altima failed to start again the rental would not offer any assistance on 12/27/24. Again I drove one hour fifteen mins to switch out the car after having *** jump the car and run a battery test. Again confirming the car battery was no good and was advised the battery would die again if turned off for a long time. The *** report shows the car battery health at 5% and as Bad and needing replacement. I believe the car company is being negligent as they claim to have a battery tester at the location and could be possible jumping the car prior to giving them to consumers because they start up fine when I got it and the next day its completely dead.I ensured no lights were left on with the replacement car.I personal think this is a huge safety concern for consumers especially if an elderly person(s) / location of the consumer being stranded. They charge me for me gas for their negligence, and refuse compensation or apologies verbally stating I broke the car for what seems like scare tactics of additional charges.Initial Complaint

I reserved a rental car with Priceline and it was through Next Car. I usually never go with a company I have never heard of, but since it was Priceline, I figured it would be safe. I didn't even pick the cheapest one because the other ones looked like a type of car vrbo and I didn't want that. The only reason I booked with them is because the hurricane a week before had all the other cars booked.I arrived at the airport 30 min early (if you aren't there on time, they cancel your reservation in an hour, even if no fault of your own). I called and said, hi, I arrived at the airport 30 min early, so if they were near the airport, I could take an earlier one. The lady got angry and said that my reservation was at 6 (it was 5:30). I said that's fine, I was just letting her know I was early. She then told me that the car wasn't back yet, possibly wouldn't be back until 7 or after and 3 other people were reserved for the car ahead of me. When I questioned what happened if it didn't come back or how that works with 3 other people, she just yelled and said that it just might not be back. I told her I had a 9 year-old at the airport and I couldn't be stranded and that I would call the authorities and report this as fraud. She yelled and said she was canceling the reservation, but never processed it. As you can see from the texts, I asked how she could do that and asked to make sure she had canceled. I have contacted Priceline and no response (also see pics). I luckily found a rental car for $154.60 more, so I ended up having to pay for two cars. I am asking for a total of $433.44 back which is the full cost of the Budget rental car that I had to rent when the $279.84 car was canceled by them. That leaves me paying the original $279.84 that I had originally booked. I looked on your site and the reviews are horrible, that day I had no choice. They also need to be shut down because Priceline refuses to do anything about them.
