We hired Polo Floors to remodel our kitchen on 7/15/21. They told us on 9/20/21 that permits weren't needed. They walked off the job on 10/14/21 and didn't finish some cabinetry, electrical, and final touch-ups. They lied about completion and of statements we made. They took out a construction lien on our house. They had removed an outlet, demolished a partition (island), changed kitchen layout (added cabinets to prior layout), removed down draft vent, disconnected appliances, installed sink, and moved a dishwasher. We learned on 11/3/21 they needed to pull permits and be licensed. Larry ****** Electrical Plans Examiner with City of Orlando, and Maria ****** with Orange Co Permitting Division, Residential Plans Reviewer, have indicated the job needed permits (building permit to remodel and alter layout, electrical permit, and mechanical permit for the vent removal). We have it in writing from the county that the job needed permits. No one with their company appears to have a license to do this work. They aren't BBB accredited companies according to BBB website. I have photos of their work vehicle that advertises their companies (Polo Floors and Polo Palm Paint) as being "licensed and insured" and "BBB Accredited" on it. We have submitted all documentation to FL Attorney General and to DBPR. Polo Floors is under investigation by DBPR for conducting unlicensed work. We were advised by our attorney to pay the lien to avoid a multi-year lien foreclosure battle based on the behavior of the company. We made numerous disputes known but they continued to coerce us into paying or risk losing our home. We paid under duress and now are going to have to pursue civil action. An owner of the companies (Roberto ****) is already a convicted criminal (2019) for unlicensed work.
