The project for my yard was to include removing a rock border around my pool and replacing it with concrete pads. I also needed several old plants removed, a retaining wall built, and four raised garden beds removed. After several months of searching for a concrete contractor, Mr. *******'s company was recommended to me by another contractor. With the recommendation, I called Mr. ******* and described the job that I needed done. He gave me a verbal quote of $5500 to complete the work. We agreed on a start date. When he arrived at my home, we walked through the yard and discussed what needed to be done, and he then gave me a quote of for $7500 ($3000 dollar deposit and the remainder at job completion). I agreed. He wrote up a contract that was not descriptive and I asked if we needed to put all the details in the wording and he said no that I should trust him to do the job right. Mr. ******* and his crew began work that afternoon. The next day they came over and began putting in the framework for the concrete pads. I asked if they were going to remove the rock and he said that they would remove a portion, but that they would use some of the existing rock as a foundation for the concrete. I am not familiar with concrete work and trusted what he was telling me. During this process they broke a pipe to my pool and my pool began to leak water at an alarming rate. We did not know where the break in the pipe was, and Mr. ******* denied any responsibility. I then told him that they needed to stop working until we could find the leak and have it repaired. He insisted that I give him another payment to stop the work and then told me they would return to finish. Phone conversations were stressful as Mr. ******* was disrespectful and accusatory. They never returned to complete the work. I have had the concrete inspected to discover what should have been 4 inches thick is only 1.5 inches thick. Mr. ******* did not provide the work we agreed on and the concrete is not safe!
