RE: *** BROTHERS ROOFING On the morning of 13 March 2024, an employee of *** BROTHERS ROOFING called my Dad’s cellular phone, which I happened to answer. The caller wanted to speak with my Dad, Jon *******. I informed the caller that my Dad unexpectedly passed away on 9 March 2024. The woman stated she was with *** Brothers Roofing and wanted to know about the payment for the new roof, no Condolences or anything, just wanted to know about the payment. As Dad’s death came suddenly, here I was dealing with this issue as well. I informed the caller that I thought my Dad had written out a cheque, but I would have to check. However, I had some issues with *** Brothers Roofing that I informed this employee about, which includes the chimney flashing having never been done at all, the workers had put a hole in my vinyl siding and never informed us of the fact, prolly hoping we wouldn't find out in a timely manner and also the fact that I do not believe they even ran the magnetizer through the surrounding and immediate areas of the house, as I kept finding roofing tacks in the front area where I park my car; which resulted in having a tack in my rear passenger door that blew out on me. I had to purchase two/2 brand-new rear tires, in addition to having to pay ******** Automotive to put the spare on for me as this blow-out happened on Creighton Road as I was leaving to take Dad to two/2 doctor appointments that day. The employee of *** Brothers Roofing asked for my phone number, which I provided her with, and said that she would have someone call me back. It is now the 24th of March 2024 and I have yet to be contacted by anyone further from *** Brothers Roofing to date. Instead, I came home after my doctor’s appointment on the afternoon of the 21st March 2024 and found a certified letter in my mail receptacle, which was never signed for. It is a CLAIM OF LIEN, filed on the 15th of March 2024 by Micheal ***. Again, with the various Issues I have had/been having, not only with my Father’s Death, but specifically with *** Brothers Roofing, they never even once tried reaching out to me at all, to try and correct their mistakes, which is a Breach of Contract, in not fully cleaning up their mess due to the roofing tacks, where the workers were Fully Aware that I parked close to the steps of the front door as my Dad used a walker and they had asked me to move the car, damaging my tires and also that of the vinyl siding they tried to Shirk responsibility for, and the chimney flashing issues. There is a tarpaulin covering the chimney opening that a friend of Dad’s had to cover it with; it is still there. Meanwhile, hurricane season will soon be upon us and that tarp is not going to hold as is! The chimney flashing should have been done First and Foremost, as that was the cause of the leaking. One simply would not put Band-aids around a wound and hope it would heal, you have to treat the wound itself for healing to commence. It is basically Idiotic to have put a new roof on without fixing the cause of the leak first. Perhaps they knew they would eventually have to come back and put on a new roof for even more money; it is hard to tell people’s motives these days. My oldest brother came on Saturday, 23 March 2024, to clean up in the front of the garage part of the house and later that evening, he texted me saying me, too, had found tacks as a few had pierced through his shoes, which will cause water to soak through, or other harmful bacteria. It has been one obstacle after another with *** Brothers Roofing. However, knowing that we would eventually need a new roof on, Dad, unbeknownst to me, had already engaged *** Brothers Roofing, despite the fact that Dad was under my care and I had his Durable Power of Attorney. I did not find out he had even entered into a contract, so to speak, with *** Brothers Roofing until early one morning when I heard thunderous pounding above the ceiling in my room that had awakened me from a deep sleep. Knowing and being armed with all the information I now know about *** Brothers Roofing, I would not even engage them to fix the roof of a roach hotel!!! Even going through the documents that listed the work orders, the second far out-prices the original, I do not know why the Huge difference and can only surmise it to be a sort of bait-and-switch tactic, prolly used on the elderly, if not other clients as well. $1,640.00 is a Huge Difference! In the meantime, I have found that Dad did, in fact, request money from his bank account in Johnstown, PA, the deposit to his local bank and that a cheque was actually issued on 18 January 2024, cheque #2286. I therefore am requesting that *** Brothers Roofing not only Honour their “Contract”, but the original Price, to also fix the hole they put in my vinyl siding, reimburse me for my tire damages and my oldest brother’s shoes and finally, run the magnetizer on the property in a Timely fashion and Thoroughly, as I need to mow the lawn soon and do not want to end up with even more punctured tires nor do I need nor want to incur Vet bills due to having my Huskies stepping on rusty tacks or the ones they used, as I myself do not look forward to such incidents and need to get a tetanus shot due to sloppy, careless and shoddy workmanship. Thank You. I am Respectfully, Shannon *******

      Mrs. *******,

I have attached photos that show both the existing hole in the siding prior to us beginning construction, as well as the condition of the yard during construction.  Despite our best efforts we cannot get every nail out of unmaintained landscaping.  I will however in an effort to resolve this have the magnet ran to the best of its abilities.  Sorry for your loss.

I am rejecting this response because: Brian came over last week and ran the magnetizer: he also offered to pay for the damages that my car suffered having a blowout due to their negligence, as the workers knew I parked close to the front steps for my Dad and I had to move the car for them. Mr. ******* had very generously also offered to fix the hole in the vinyl siding. I paid Mr. ******* that day for the full request that they made and afterwards, I sent Mr. ******* a text, and it was basically him staring that he was going back out of town again and would "see to it." I have not heard a word from them yet regarding paying me back for the tire damages nor in getting the flashing for the chimney done either, as they stated that had to be done "custom." However, once the cheque was received and cashed, they disappeared and did not keep their word. I am very disappointed in them, especially w/ having to also deal w/ the death of my Father.

      Sincerely,

      Shannon *******

It is not the chimney flashing that the daughter is talking about.  It is a chimney cap, that had blown off in a storm.  It is of the custom nature and we were not contracted to replace it nor is it a variety that we have the ability to fabricate.  This was discussed in length with her father and we even recommended a metal fabricator to him that did do that type of work.  I have attached a photo of the chimney prior to us working on it and one as it was when we finished (we did tarp it so water wouldnt continue to pour in).

      Complaint: 21479992

I am rejecting this response because:

Once again and I reiterate from the previous reply...when Brian ******* came over to run the magnetizer again he stared that he would contact the metal fabricator to have the chimney taken care of and that it would be at a discount price as they would pass that along to me. Mr. ******* also stated that they would repair the hoke in the vinyl siding for me as a courtesy as I have some of the vinyl siding leftover in the shed. Also Mr. ******* stated that I would be reimbursed for my tire that I had to replace as a direct result of their failure to secure all the roof tacks...this was directly where I park the car and no obstacles nor debris was/is present at that site in front of the stairs to the house. None of these were fulfilled...after I gave Mr. ******* the cheque and then texted him about these issues he stated that he was going to be out of town and would see to it next week. That week has come and gone so it was basically a See You Next Tuesday sort of deal. Mr. ******* stressed to me several times that they do not take advantage of the military or elderly...I guess just dead people!! If you are not going to honor your words then you shouldn't make promises you never intended on keeping. The cheque was all they were interested in and not standing behind their words and lacking anyone's type or decency to fulfill empty promises. This lacks any and all credibility for this company and it is very disappointing and distressing that a company conducts their business like this...especially to a deceased elderly Navy Veteran!!!

      Sincerely,

      Shannon *******

The guy put his foot through my ceiling and never told anyone. The company said he dropped a pipe, but no pipe was on floor. I do not trust quality of the work because that same person determines the decking replacement and that was additional 2,000. Very disappointed with this company.

Guy Brothers Roofing completed repairs to the ceiling to the homeowners satisfaction and the homeowner was given a $250 discount simply for her inconvenience.  The homeowner was made aware of prior to, and during, construction of the poor condition of her sheathing. Guy Brothers Roofing has not been in business for 50+ years nor earned it's BBB accreditation by doing unethical work. I can provide more photos upon request.

On June 3, 2022, I was informed by employees of Guy Brothers Roofing, Inc. that while replacing our roof and the flashing between my Florida Room and my house they damaged the roof of our Florida Room causing a large section of the roof to collapse from the main structure. I immediately contacted Brent Langhorn of Guy Brothers Roofing and he acknowledged the damage and agreed to resolve the issue. The workmanship was so poor that many of the roof panels have been replaced twice and the newest panels are also damaged. The contractor also damaged a ceiling fan, vertical blinds and outdoor lighting during the process. It should be noted that during this entire process the contractor placed a tarp over the roof and the panels were not securely fastened to the Florida Room. This led to a significant amount of water in the room each time it rained. Throughout this process we have had to manage this on an ongoing basis. We recently managed over 1" of water in the room due to significant rainfall and have witnessed flooded floors, water flowing down interior windows, walls and into an electrical outlet. Through discussions with the Santa Rosa County Permit Office it was discovered that the contractor was not licensed to perform the work nor did they obtain permits. The owner, Michael Guy, has refused an insurance claim for the damages. His attitude was especially aggressive and though he offered to send a 'professional' guy' to make repairs he demanded that I would have no contact with them nor would he name them. Rather than accept responsibility Michael Guy chose to place a lien on our property demanding payment while leaving our Florida Room damaged.

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/08/30) */ Contact Name and Title: Michael Guy Contact Phone: 850-434-1785 Contact Email: [email protected] We understand the frustration. We are still in open communication regarding satisfying all reasonable requests. Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/09/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) There has been no communication from the business other than a threat to go to court. I have sent two certified letters and two checks to the business requesting an amicable resolution that included credit for payment to a licensed, professional sunroom contractor to repair the damages caused by the Guy Brothers Roofing employees and to cover the estimated costs to replace two damaged ceiling fans. Business Response /* (4000, 12, 2022/09/12) */ At this time there has been no information to relay to the customer. We are still in the process of reviewing all of our options, including the review by the competency board which the customer himself requested. The root of the damage was rotten framing of the structure, which was in no way a fault of Guy Brothers Roofing.

After Hurricane Sally I needed a new roof and after getting a few estimates I went with Guy Brothers Roofing to install a new roof after being quoted $10,600. My roof was leaking pretty bad so I was trying to get done as quick as possible, so February 18, 2021 I signed the paperwork to get the job started. They didn't start on my roof until the beginning of May which is understandable with the demand for roofs after the hurricane and finding people to work during a pandemic. When they showed up it was in the afternoon and I figured it would take a couple of days so I didn't think anything about it until they were still on my roof at 8:30 at night and they were using there cell phones as light to be able to hammer in the shingles. They came back 2 days later to pick up the dump trailer which I filled with trash they left for me to pick up. I noticed a couple of things that needed to be repaired so I took pictures and documented it thinking they were coming back out. The next time I hear from them is a couple of weeks later for payment and thinking it was going to be someone I could talk to about the repairs I welcomed them coming out. They send out someone who obviously wasn't going to look at my roof just collect $11,718 instead of the 10,600 which I understand some price difference due to changing out some decking, but $1100? I tell the rep about the things that need to be repaired she directs me to contact the person who gave me the estimate. The first time I called and texted with pictures was 6/9/21 the rep. came out and agreed to fix the problem which is great except no one came, I call and text on 8/3/21 same thing. In late September my neighbor whose house connects to mine and who had just got a roof a couple months before me tells me his roof is leaking and his contractor told him it was do to the way my roof was installed. I had them come on 10/6/21 and they agreed to fix it. I've called a couple more times since now it's 11/23/21 just fix the damn thing.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/07) */ The leaking in question coming in to Mr. ******** unit is coming from the neighbor's rotted wall (Multiplex). We have investigated this issue on multiple occasions and made Mr. ****** aware of this. We would be more than happy to make the necessary repairs if we knew who to bill. This is an HOA issue. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/18) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) They mentioned nothing of fixing the problem at the back of the house. I have 2 different witnesses who were there when they said they were going to fix the area between the 2 houses, which all the sudden isn't there fault. They say the area is missing siding and that's why it's leaking, well there was siding there and the roof wasn't leaking until after they installed the new roof. They've been to my house 4 different times saying they were going to fix it every time now they claim they don't know who to talk to about fixing the problem. If they want more money take it out of the extra $1100 I was charged over my quote. I do asphalt for a living and if the mix doesn't meet certain standards then guess what we replace it and make it right. I'm tired of asking border line begging these people to do the right thing. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2021/12/27) */ In reguards to this complaint. We had a crew come out and fix the rotted down wall above the roof line that is the neighbors.
