Which finally happened in May 2024 - Have been asking several times to talk to manager but no response from Meraki. Each time reaction from customer service rep is "request for Manager callback has been submitted and should happen within 24 to 72 hours". This has not happened - Total system cost $ 44,955.00 (before tax return incentive of about $ 15,000.00) - Loan through Dividend of 25 year 0.99% - $ 119 first 16 months and $ 171.00 p/m after if tax refund was not used to put in system. Marko ***** (email and rep information below), a representative from Meraki, visited our home to discuss solar panel installation. We listened to his presentation and signed up without conducting any prior research. Shortly after he left, we checked the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website and found numerous complaints about Meraki and their partner, Sunova. Within an hour of signing, we rescinded our agreement. We immediately texted Marko and emailed Sunova to cancel, as per the contract's instructions. Additionally, we mailed the cancellation notice on the same day and have the tracking number as proof. Despite the contract clearly stating we had seven business days to cancel without penalties, we received an invoice for $948 in cancellation fees on June 18, 2024. This charge is unjustified and indicates a scam.

The contract I signed for Meraki to take down my solar panels and replace my roof was $11,992.00. I paid them $3,597.60 for materials… then they replaced roof… calling me and saying they had to replace all of the plywood ( 52 sheets) it would cost another $5000…. 1/2 inch plywood… that comes out to over $90 a sheet … I checked Hone Depot and they said it was only $43.28 a sheet (. 54 x 43.28 = $2,500.72) I then paid them $$2,509.72 + $8,646.55= $11,146.95 which they accepted and wrote full and final payment on receipt… now they are sending me a invoice for $6,386 . In full I have already paid them $14,744.55. I think they are trying to scam me about the plywood.. the plywood that I checked was the same exact kind they put on my roof … I am 73 year old woman and I paid $2752.55 for the extra plywood.. Meraki salesman, Jason Brand said they would not charge me extra for the labor for the extra plywood decking… the roof was finished in one day. They should not be charging me another $6,386

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We want to address the points you raised and do all we can to clarify the situation and make this right.

Your contract for the panel removal and roofing installation explains a total of $11,992. This contract also outlines the terms for latent defects and adverse conditions, which states: “Owner understands that there may be hidden/latent defects or adverse conditions such as mold, rot, water damage, termite or other insect damage, etc. that impacts the necessary scope of work and associated costs. Owner understands that pricing does not include such additional work and associated costs...” In your case, the decking needed to be replaced so your home would be up to code, which is why the additional plywood was needed - this included the 65 sheets of plywood along with two layers of felt.

The $3597.60 you paid was the 30% deposit required to get the work started. We see you paid $2500.72, but that was not the full amount needed to cover the costs of the decking.

The invoice that was sent to you reflected the remaining amount for the completed project. While we understand that it varies from the amount that was initially agreed upon, the terms outlined that there are circumstances that may lead to additional work being performed.

Since you have paid a total of $14,744.55, the remaining amount to be paid is $3,699.28.

We hope this clears up any confusion.

      Complaint: 21807002

I am rejecting this response because:  only 54 sheets of Plywood was used and in the contract it says they cover eight so that means I only pay for 46 of them which is what I paid and I have a receipt from Meraki that says receipt for roof project for Carla **** includes payment  For additional deck boards this is the final payment received in Destin office April 4, 2024 by Max con and Jason Brand I have a copy of the check which is $11,146.95 and I already paid them to Get the project started $3597.60 so no I’m not gonna pay for 65 or 64 boards when my contract included eight boards out of the 54 they told me and I have a receipt saying this is the Final payment that I paid them April 4, 2024 and I have the contract. I have the receipt for the other 35 9760 for what I paid for the project to get started.

      Sincerely,

      Carla ****

We appreciate you including the attachments. The contract mentions that other issues may become apparent during the work and cause the overall price to increase. Since your decking needed to be replaced for your home to be up to code, there was an additional cost associated with the total price of your project.

You received the project price before the extra repairs that were made were included, and we have made sure this does not happen again moving forward. The remaining amount to be paid for the entire project is $3,699.28.

      I am rejecting their response:

The site would not let me click on the response to their explanation.. as you can see with my documentation…. I’ve already paid the “extra” to bring it up to code.  I reject their explanation… they were trying to get me to pay $90 a sheet for 54 sheets of 1/2 inch plywood that sells for $47 a sheet.  Also in the contract it says they will supply eight sheets of plywood they supplied 54 so I should only have to pay for 46 sheets….. also when I brought the check in, it says final payment on it and they accepted it and wrote that and signed it

      Business response

      07/18/2024

Your final payment notice was received prior to the extra work being counted in, as we stated, this is something that we have since improved and it should not happen again.

Your contract price is what you and the roofing teams agreed upon, along with the hidden/latent defects clause. We are unable to change the price on sheets of plywood and base it on wood that was located elsewhere. You needed 65 sheets of plywood and two layers of felt, which would likely not be the same price as 54 sheets of plywood at another business.

The remaining amount to be paid for the entire project is $3,699.28.

      Complaint: 21807002

I am rejecting this response because:
I paid $11,146.95 and $3597.60. That should have covered the extra 46 sheets of plywood and felt as 8 sheets are listed in the contract as included in the original contract price… so the 46 sheets of plywood and felt I paid $2751.60 for. The plywood actually cost only $2300.00 . I personally counted the The plywood and checked the prices , ergo you’ve already been paid for it all.
      Sincerely,

      Carla ****

On April 16th, 2024 my fiance and I talked to a representative from Meraki Solar, LLC about solar panels, giving them any information they needed (i.e. phone number, email, my name, my id, etc.) and asked them if it was okay if we wait to sign anything. The representative, who claimed to be the regional manager, along with his associate, Damien, I forget the regional managers name said that there was no rush to sign and that we could wait a week. After they left my fiance did some research and said based off of reviews we won't sign anything from them. An email had been sent to me by Meraki, LLC to review and sign the documents, which after reading the reviews for Meraki, LLC refused to sign. 2 days, April 18th, later Damien and his "regional manager" were at my door, but by the time I went to answer they had left, I only know it was them because I saw them walk away. Monday, April 22, they were at my door again. This time I answered before they left, and told them that I was no longer interested and wouldn't be signing anything or continuing with the project. They resisted my decline of their offer for a bit, but then left. In the meantime I have received 37 emails from April 18 - May 24 reminding me that I need to "sign" the contract that I had previously declined.

I have requested this company to come out on several occasions. There are holes in my roof and now when it rains the inside of my house leaks. I have been scheduled on numerous appointments and no one comes out. At this point I do not want the solar panels anymore and I want my roof replaced. I also want to add that I have a newer roof. Less than 10 years old and did not have water issues until after the solar panels were added

On 7 June 2023, I signed a contract with Meraki to install solar panels on my home in Miami Gardens, FL. Because the company was unable to install the panels by the lender's suspense, I chose to change the contract to a cash option. On 14 December 2023, I paid Meraki 30% ($19,661.13) under the understanding that they were going to install the panels within 24 hours. Sometime in late Nov/Early Dec, Meraki installed the solar panels on my property illegally, which they had to take down due to not having the right inspections completed. After taking them down, Meraki left the 40 panels leaning against my house. Because the panels were not secured, they were thrown around during a storm. The solar panel manufacturer stated that because the panels were not stored properly, their warranty is voided, yet Meraki insists that they will not replace the panels. Moving to today, 14 May 2024, Meraki has been unable to install the panels due to multiple failed inspections. Talking with the city inspector, I learned that Meraki has failed 7 inspections, 3 of those by now show. The inspector mentioned that Meraki is the most disorganized company he has worked with. On 4 May 2024, I sent an email to Meraki including the sales representative, the project advocate, and one of the managers. In my email, I asked for an update on the project, to address my concerns with solar panels that have been on the ground for 6 months, and for background on the inconsistencies with the information I received on the finance part. To this day Meraki has not replied to my email.

      Business response

      06/06/2024

We appreciate your patience while we research your complaint to do all we can to address the provided concerns. We want to make this right and be transparent in the process.

We are now in the installation stage of your project, but we understand that you wish to receive a response to this complaint before scheduling a date.

On May 28th, 2024, the city inspector conducted a preliminary electrical inspection of the panels. This inspection was approved, and confirmed that we are now ready to fully install and complete the solar system. The panels’ warranty should remain intact.

There appears to have been a miscommunication regarding our teams being allowed on your property. We are eager to keep your project in motion, so we apologize for sending a crew out to assess the panels without notifying you. We will make sure this does not happen again.

Regarding the questions about the finance portion of this project, as previously disclosed in an email, we'd like to reiterate it here for transparency. The 30% payment is required to transition from a loan to a cash payment to secure the materials and labor needed for reinstallation. This policy is in place to ensure that we can schedule the work promptly. The invoice that includes the total price of your system was sent as a step in our standard procedure. Our billing department usually generates these invoices and sends them out during the installation.

Inspections are performed to ensure all aspects of the project align with your jurisdiction's requirements, and sometimes, we have to make adjustments. Those adjustments have been made, and we are ready to install the solar panels on your roof!

We genuinely hope that this answers your questions and we are glad to help if you have any more. Please let us know as soon as possible if June 19th or the week of June 24th - 28th works with your schedule to get the panels installed.

If you are still looking to cancel your contract, please know that the remaining amount of the system would be owed. We understand that this is not ideal, so we want to do all that we can to make this right.

I am rejecting this response because: The “project advocate” has failed to respond (see attached txt messages). Also, the company continues to claim that there’s a “misunderstanding”. The fact is that this project has been open for over a year, that the company was not aware of the local codes and has had panels improperly stored on the round for almost 9 months, failed 6 inspection by the city, continues to push to install panels that are no longer cover under warranty, did not deduct the total cost of the dealer’s fee when I moved from loan to a cash option due to a “different pricing strategy, has not completed the AC duct sealant work after I was told it was going to be scheduled months ago, and I can continue listing issues. There’s not misunderstanding about any of the listed issues.

      Sincerely,

Hello my problem is with Meraki Solar. Last year I purchased solar panels and I told the salesman I wanted to off set my bill as much as possible. I don't have all them funds so i needed financing and I wanted my solar bill to be less then my highest electric bill. I asked him if it was possible and of course he replied with most certainly we can. He told me that with the Solar initiative I would be able to get up to around 20% back when I file my taxes. My solar bill was around $76,000. $15,000 was part of a new roof. So the panels would be around $55,000. My tax credit would be around $22,000. At this $76,000 price tag my monthly payments would be $320. That's $20 less then my highest electric bill. If for some reason I didn't give the check back my monthly payment would be around $430. The issue I have is that he straight up lied to get a higher sell. Now that I have filed my CPA told me there is not imitative out there that sends a check back for going solar. I've called multiple CPAs and they are all telling me the same thing. They are also telling me this is a common practice with a lot of solar companies that leaves customers mad as hell. When I call the company the receptionist wont connect me to anyone. She tells me that Meraki is a solar company and not a CPA so I need to consult with a CPA. When I tell her their sales force is spreading lies and misinformation she just repeats the same old thing.  Is this a matter that the BBB would look into? What are the options

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your recent experience with Meraki Solar. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns and provide clarification.

Your welcome call and your signed contract disclosed that Meraki personnel are not tax professionals and cannot provide tax advice. Our representatives aim to provide general information based on currently available programs, but we emphasize that individual eligibility and the specific amounts of tax credits or rebates can only be accurately determined by consulting with a qualified tax professional.

We apologize for any miscommunication that may have occurred. These terms were disclosed to you on multiple instances.

I am rejecting this response because: I have attached a portion of an email that shows where your salesman is telling me we are getting a check back.
Tyler is also telling me to my face, that I am getting a check back. That if I should chose to keep it and pay down debt, buy something, anything, that I could keep this so called check. I told him nope, I want to keep my solar bill around $300. Even in my contract with the bank it shows where I'm suppose to use this check to keep my solar bill in the low $300's. Your sales force is miss guiding and miss leading customers! I am telling you about this and your responses is a copout. The monthly payment was a HUGE determining factor for the size of my system. In the attachment and in my bank loan I can show you where Tyler mislead and lied about the check I was suppose to get. You guys work in the industry and I trusted the "word" of your salesman. Classic mistake on my part.

The issue is that a refund check was used to persuade me into getting a bigger system and I was straight up lied to. Your disclaimer's might help to COA but what is being said contradicts what is shown in my emails and what was said to my face!

The solar program shouldn't even be a sales pitch if your not properly educating your customers.

As a pissed off customer I am properly informing you about how your company misled me on this sale.

      Sincerely,

Thank you for providing further details. We apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this situation has caused.

We also want to apologize for any miscommunication or misunderstanding that occurred during your interactions with your sales representative. Our goal is to ensure that our customers have accurate information to make informed decisions, and we regret to hear that you feel misled.

We have reviewed the proposal you shared, which included an estimated tax credit amount. We want to clarify that the tax credit amount shown in the proposal was intended as an estimate based on currently available information. The actual amount of any tax credit is dependent on various individual factors, and it is the homeowner's responsibility to determine the precise amount by consulting with a qualified tax professional. This was disclosed in your welcome call and your signed contract.

While our representatives strive to provide general information about available programs, it is essential to consult a CPA or tax advisor for accurate details regarding individual tax credits and rebates. Our intention was never to mislead but rather to provide an estimate based on the information available at the time.

We value your feedback and are committed to improving.

I am rejecting this response because: This back and forth is going to get us nowhere. I’m letting your company know that Tyler lied to me. We never talked about my tax situation. The only thing that he asked me to look into was insurance. Making sure that my insurance carrier would allow for solar. He lied and miss led me when he said repeatedly I would be getting a check back for going solar. I understand that the number he gave me was a ballpark figure and the IRS will do what it will. I understand that in your fine print you have your disclaimer. In the end I told him my final monthly payment that I wanted. He manipulated and lied and now I regret whole heartedly going with Meraki. I will not recommend your company and if I hear of anyone going solar I will be sure to not recommend Meraki.

Thanks for your time, even though it got us nowhere.

I have a non-solicitation clearly posted on my door. Meraki has decided that at 8:50p.m. on the 9th of April 2024 to come try and solicitate business at my house. This is about the 7th time this company has come to my door. Caught on video. When I inform them they are doing something wrong, they seem to not care and continue to argue that they are in the right, even when I ask them to leave. This is unacceptable to me, and I would like this harassment to stop from this company. My next step will be to call the sheriffs office and register a complaint on the company as well. I would like their people to be educated on the law and especially not be Smart A??es when they are told to leave.

7 months ago a representative from Meraki Solar, Joseph ******* came to our house to talk about solar panels and how we should go solar and how it would save us money in the long run. We would be paying a lower price by going solar than if we stayed with paying fpl. The agreed payment every month would be $154.37. Set price. Would not go up or down. I was not aware though that if we did not pay that amount on the 18th of every month we would be penalized $20. And we were told after the solar was put on they would explain to us how the app worked for the panels. No noone explained that to us and I got an e mail explaining how to download the app. Another lie was Joseph saying that when it came to tax time it would benefit us to have solar cause we would get money back if we filled out the form for solar. Well we downloaded the form, took it to our H R block tax person and they said no that was not true. What we would get would be a tax credit. So if we owe the irs, the solar form would pay the IRS and we would not have to. Our tax person said many people fell for that scam. And I am finding out that my fpl bill is $40 to $50 cheaper than solar every month. Next month it is $133. But I will have to also pay the solar bill of $154.37. So another lie from Joseph *******. I am not happy with Meraki solar at all. Noone is ever available to be reached and yet they tell me to call them. They get upset if I e mail them. Joseph ******* is never available and always conveniently out of town. Noone I have talked to has said that going solar has worked out for them. And sadly we are on that list too. The only benefit we got from it was not having to pay the IRS this year. All I would really like if possible is maybe my solar bill to be lower or if the company can work with fpl. I was told it can work through a 3rd party but I think Meraki solar has to arrange that. I just think it is silly to not only be paying solar but fpl too, and Joseph ******* needs to quit this job. Liar!!

We want to look further into your FPL bills and perform a production analysis based on your actual consumption to determine what is causing the utility bills to be at their current amounts.

Can you please respond with three of your most recent utility bills? With those, we should be able to get a better understanding of what’s going on and we will promptly provide you with our findings.

Those two guys came into our home, talked very nice like good salesmen always do and convinced us that this would be a great investment. These panels were installed 10/19/23, turned on 11/08/23 and a panel had to be fixed 12/13/23. We NEVER consume 100% of the daily energy that's generated daily, so for the life of me we can NOT understand why the city of Tallahassee is still charging us for electricity after we've had MONTHS to accumulate energy. The city of Tallahassee couldn't give us any answers after trying for awhile. We've even waited to see if these charges would work itself out. As of today we're still having to pay the city for electricity, but we NEVER consume more than what's been generated smh. I've reached out to Mark and Austin and I am awaiting a CALL back. If you are considering this company DON'T do it unless you want to pay for solar panels and still pay for electricity MONTHLY. Also, the tax credit that they swear you'll be able to apply to your panels as an incentive payment to prevent your monthly panel bill from increasing is also a LIE. Do yourself a favor and leave those solar panels where they're at because this is a breach in the agreement.

As per the terms of our agreement, your system was designed to cover approximately 82% of your previous year's electricity consumption. This means that there may still be a bill from your local utility company, albeit lower than your previous bills before the panels, unless you utilize less electricity than what was used the previous year. This was also explained in the signed monthly usage disclaimer, which states: “Based upon the information provided by me, the solar offset is estimated to be 82% of my current electric utility bill. I understand the calculation completed by Meraki in this proposal may not reflect the actual solar offset achieved by my solar system or solar offset limitations imposed by my utility provider.”

We have already reviewed your system’s actual production and compared it to its estimated production, and it appears that your system is working exactly as it was designed to.

It looks like you recently spoke with one of our representatives, who requested three months of your electricity bills so we could perform a production analysis. Since receiving your bills, we have been waiting for the City of Tallahassee to get back to us, and we will have the analysis completed promptly.

Once we get the information from the City of Tallahassee, we will provide you with an update on how your consumption habits are affecting your utility bills.

I am rejecting this response because: my solar panels produces twice the amount of energy thats being consumed monthly. Instead of the bill decreasing it's increasing when the cumsumption is clearly lower. The bills were all submitted as soon as requested which the company isn't really saying/explaining much of anything. The "audit" Austin conducted was pretty much pointless. Getting solar panels was a complete rip off and cumsumption is needed for the electric portion of the bill utility bill. The $400 check that the company provided up front to account for the electric portion while the"credits" are accumulating has far since exceeded. I would like to have the electric portion of the utility bill covered by Meraki since the solar panels are useless which is being paid for.

      Sincerely,

      Lamonica *****

Your panels were designed for an 82% offset, meaning the system covers 82% of your estimated usage. The remaining usage would be charged to the utility company, which is why you would still receive a bill that should be smaller than your bills before the panels unless there is an overconsumption.

This offset was disclosed in your contract and welcome call. We apologize if there was any misunderstanding. Your system is operating at the rate it was designed to.

Your energy production can be optimized by regularly rinsing your panels to remove dirt, pollen, or debris and monitoring your production on your monitoring apps. Also, if there were any changes in the number of appliances or people living in your home, that could cause your energy consumption to increase.

I am rejecting this response because: I am bring told different things. I provided proof from thr enphase app that shows only half of the energy is being consumed that's generated, so with thr percentage there's well enough of energy thats not being utilized. One instance I'm told my system is working properly and another instance which was last week I receiced a notification stating I have an appointment to troubleshoot my consumption meter. Why is that if everything was working properly? That wasn't until I provided Mark with screenshots of the latest utility bill which was compared to the consumption on the enphase app. He wasn't able to tell me initially how the city charged me for energy that the app didn't show I consumed. I totally understand paying a utility bill if I over consumed, but I keep stating that is not the case. We're never consuming more than that's produced so far.

      Sincerely,

      Lamonica *****
