      Caught a 110" inch striped ****** in **** Feb 1/2024. Decided to keep it so we were met at dock by rep for Atlantic Taxidermy. Signed for credit card charge for deposit (approximately half of total price). Was told I would be contacted within 2 weeks to finalize details. After 2 weeks had not heard anything from company by phone or email so I decided I should reach out to them. Billing info sheet did not have company email, so I checked their website and there was no email info available there either. Billing info sheet did have a toll free number - called it a couple of times - it would ring once and then busy signal. ****** search of toll free number given brings up nothing. Tried the other phone number given in the billing info (multiple times on Feb 16 & Feb 20) - 2 rings then busy signal every time. No opportunity to leave voice mail on either day. So at this point I am concerned - can't reach company by email or either phone number that was given. I am aware that i signed a 'purchase order' stating it was a non-refundable deposit however this doesn't feel right - what legit business has no way for you to contact them and doesn't contact you in a timely manner?

      I have finally received communication from the company via email today. Since they have finally contacted me I realize that I will not get the resolution I desired so I should likely withdraw the complaint even though it is apparent this business still has some shady business practices.

      Were met at the dock by *************************** ************ from Atlantic Taxidermy on Nov 19th, 2023! Our first trip and unexpected catch on the ****** in ****! After a short conversation we decided to go ahead pay for a full mount with expectations of a phone call on the following Monday for size and colors considering no pics were taken by ***** and if we caught bigger on our second trip (which we did) We were told we could change the order and colors as he understood our position. We were told around $400 for shipping. ( he did point out an American made product in *******) Ok but since have read up to $500 for crating?!? Signing the contract and now no call, no email and have reached out by both! We understand Thanksgiving and now Christmas but silence still?

      ***** is an employee with Atlantic Taxidermy and has been for over 20years. ***** is not responsible for taking pictures of customer's fish. When a customer is speaking with one of the sales professionals in *******, they will then go over how they would like their trophy to look. We can paint them dead, like all photos show or bring back the fish's colors to how they would look prior to losing a battle for their lives and hanging up dead at the dock. 

      We touched base with ************ 10 days after he caught his fish. Our contracts state how much crating is going to be, as for shipping that varies depending on where the fish is being shipped to. 

      Not exactly sure why they are asking for $1,798.00 when they only gave a deposit amount for $973.00. Our contracts are clear, "DEPOSIT NOT REFUNDABLE". If they want to mount a larger fish, not a problem, we will adjust the size and increase the price accordingly. I have attached both their contract and their invoice. 

      There is no refund. We will and offered to work with them on the crating and shipping charges as well. They were already given a reduction on their crating charge of -$111.52.  

      Again, we will work with them on their mount and how they want it mounted, cost of crating and shipping, but their deposit is not refundable.

      I went on a fishing trip while in **** last December. While fishing I caught a striped ****** and on the boat I was told in order to have a mount made that the fish had to be killed because they use the actual fish when doing the ********** fished my entire life and have had mounts done in the past so I questioned what they were saying because most are fiberglass now. The first mate, wearing an Atlantic Taxidermy fishing Jersey, assured me it will be the actual fish mounted and not a fiberglass mold painted as a replica. Thats on video. So, I agree to have it done since it was the real fish, by there claims, being used. We get to the dock and we go over pricing with some other representatives from Atlantic Taxidermy and Im quoted a price and it was around ******* shipped. So then they request a deposit of ****** and the rest due when the fish is complete according to the representative on the dock. So we pay the deposit. Around a week later we get an email which after the undisclosed base mount charge and the shipping, which we were told was part of the *******, it now becomes a ***** fish. So I call and talk to them and thats when Im told its not the real fish, its a fiberglass replica. Ive never dealt with such a poorly ran company when it comes to customer service and honestly. I came to the conclusion it was easier to cancel my order, and they keep the ******. I also filed a complaint with the office of consumer protection. Id suggest anyone else who was lied to by this company do the same.

      As for using the actual fish, it is stated on the contract that the mount is to be a fiberglass replica molded from the same size and species as the fish caught. If he has had mounts done before he would know that they are basically all fiberglass (99%). Would love to see his video. I even asked to see and hear this when he initially called the shop and tried to get out of the contract. Was never sent. 

      His fish was actually $1,790.00. on the contract it states "SHIPPING, CRATING, OR DELIVERY CHARGES NOT INCLUDED IN MOUNT PRICE". The contract also states that the crating charge up to 24%. That would make the crating charge $429.00, this does not include shipping. That would be a total of $2,219.60 right there, not sure where $1,900.00 comes from? **** is stating that his total charge was $4,000.00 as you can see from the invoice also attached his total is $2,890.86 including his deposit. 

      ****************** did not cancel his order, ****************** did a chargeback and lost. He lost because he signed a contract stating mount to be a fiberglass replica, as well his deposit is not refundable. We were willing to work with ******************, we were willing to lower the cost of both crating and shipping so he could get his mount, actually so **** could get her mount, ****************** is not the customer on this mount.

      I met someone on the Dock in ******. They quoted me a price and i asked 3 times if there were any extra fees. They said no absolutley not. I said so no shipping or anything. he said if there was which there wasnt it would be less that $100. I agreed on a price of $1048 and received an invoice of $1467.20 and then depending on how i wanted it mounted that price will change on top of that. That is not what i agreed to and regret ever speaking to this company. When i contacted them the were jerks and said its not their problem and thats why there is a contract that i was not allowed to read before signing. This is a scam and nobody should ever be in business when this is how they operate.

      ************** says he met someone on the dock in ******. Absolutely true! ************** met with ***** an employee of Atlantic Taxidermy for 23 years. Asking ***** three time if there are any extra fees ***** would WITHOUT question inform ************** that there are additional crating and shipping fees. Not only does ***** tell them there are additional fees but when ***** sent in the orders for the day, he made a note to give the best possible rates for customer. ************** when calling the shop was told that he had incredible rates for both crating and shipping. 

      The cost of his fish is $1,048.00 but as you can see on the contract, even if it was to be picked up in ******* at our shop he would still owe ************* sales tax. ************** states that depending on how he mounted it the price would go up. This is correct IF you are adding to the mount. Example: putting it on a wood plaque with engraved plate, double siding the fish to hang from the ceiling, adding baitfish in front of the mount. This is like going to a fancy restaurant and ordering a steak, you get the steak But, if you want fries it costs! want a side of broccoli, it cost! ************** caught and paid for a single sided wall mount also stated on contract in highlighted italics writing.  Yes there will be additional cost depending on how HE wanted to display his fish. 

      He claims we said it isn't our problem? our mission is to work with customers so they get their fish. This was done right off the bat lowering both crating and shipping cost for ***************

      He states he wasn't allowed to read the contract? REALLY???? Your in ******, you sign a contract that takes all of 18 seconds to read and you didn't even glance at it? the largest boldest print on the contract states - DEPOSIT NOT REFUNDABLE and SHIPPING, CRATING, OR DELIVERIES NOT INCLUDED IN THE MOUNTING PRICE!

      ************** claims we are a scam. We have been in business for over 35 years, if we are a scam wouldn't we have been shut down, investigated, sent to prison anything but providing people that read their short well informed contracts and understand that when you live in another state and you order something it is going to cost money to have said product sent to them?

      ************** is more than welcome to come and pick up his fish from us in ******* and just pay the additional state sales tax which we have NO CONTROL over.

      STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could give this a negative stars, I would. I was excited to catch a very large striped ****** while in ****. The sales person told me it would costs just 1k total that included shipping fees as well. I paid an 950. making the initial non refundable deposit, they sent us the real invoice. It was **** dollars higher! The sales person never mentioned anything about shipping and cratering fees. All he said was 1k total. If I knew shipping was going to cost **** dollars, I would have not ordered the fish. The sales person was in and out fast and didn't even stick around to get the correct weight of the fish. I have had fish mounted before, but these people are very misleading. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!! The rep at the dock was a complete con- artist. They even told us we could not take the fish meat because it would ruin the mount. We didnt know any better so we agreed to leave the meat. Little did we know they probably sold it at the fish market took their cut on ripping off an American and then went about their day. Atlantic taxidermy is affiliated with Grey taxidermy so be aware of them as well . There reviews are just as bad. When we contacted the company for a refund they refused. There complete scam is to take money upfront in hopes no one ever goes forward with the actual mount. Company made 950 dollars to measure the fish then lie and mislead us. Never again will read the reviews first before trusting any business again. Take a look at all there bad reviews pretty same story. Place needs shut down for fraud

      I have looked into our system and I do not see an order for ********************. Perhaps it is under another name, or possibly our ladies entered it into the system incorrectly? If provided an order number or what name is listed on his invoice I could reference their exact contract, but it will be the same as the one attached. 

      ******************** claims that he caught a VERY LARGE stripe ****** in Cabo. He claims the total amount for the fish is $1,000.00. If this is so, why did he only put down a deposit of $950.00 and not the full $1,000.00 if that was the total cost? I will tell you why, the deposit on his fish was was $950.00 I'm guessing his fish was a 94" stripe ******. The cost for the fish is $1,840.00 the $950.00 is just about half of the mount price just a tab more. 

      Hopefully, ******************** can provide his contract that was filled out in Cabo and you will see where the mount price, deposit and balance due for the mount will all be listed in the middle of the contract. Then in the same box, listed in the largest print it states - "SHIPPING, CRATING, OR DELIVERIES NOT INCLUDED IN THE MOUNTING PRICE". 

      As for the meat of the fish we have absolutely nothing to do with what happens with the fish. Our contract also states, fish can be released for a complete replica, and that their fish will be a fiberglass replica molded from the same size and species as fish caught. His fish about the meat is with the boat and its crew. 

      Gray Taxidermy provides a service for customers wanting a memory of the great time they had on vacation. This is hardly a scam and all pertinent information is listed on the contract and the biggest factors are in the largest print and highlighted. 

      ******************** sighed his name twice once agreeing that his deposit is NOT REFUNDABLE, and the second is authorizing Gray Taxidermy to charge his card for the deposit amount that was listed.

      I am rejecting this response because: The sales rep lied to us and told us a different cost then what the sales invoice was. The sales invoice was mailed out weeks after the deal was already made between us and the company's sales agent. Just typical Atlantic taxidermy / Grey's taxidermy  code of ethics hire shady sales agents to lie and steal and never produce a product. Look at all the ****** reviews online pretty much same story. All saying sales agents told customers a different price then what was later charged. *****************, ***************, ********************* scam artist award of the year goes to you and your company..

      Upon finishing a fishing trip, I was approached by a representative from Atlantic Taxidermy. He indicated that a mount of the fish my son cost would cost approximately $1700. I paid a deposit for $918.00 at that time. AND, I was told that the remainder would be due upon my receipt of the fish. A representative named ***** called me a couple weeks after the trip. I again asked him how much the mount would cost. He said that it would cost app $1,700. Since that time he has charged my account a total of $3,833.01. The mount will take 5 - 7 months. The reviews on-line for this business, which I just checked today, are awful. In addition, strangely, I am UNABLE TO post my review of said company. Should have done my homework, I know. However, it seems that the BBB should issue something to protect future customers from these fraudsters and liars. I am happy to provide documentation at a later time. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

      As you can see from the attached contract the cost of the mount is $1,743.00, so the cost is correct. ******************** spoke with *****, again correct and added a $895.00 wood plaque to display her sons fish, listed on invoice. We are now at $2,638.00.

      Our contract also states "SHIPPING, CRATING, OR DELIVERIES NOT INCLUDED IN MOUNTING PRICE". Our crating charge is listed on her contract as well. This is 24% of the mounting price which would be $418.32, also listed on invoice. Living in ******* this fish would need to be shipped. The cost for shipping is not listed on the contract because depending on where the fish is going the rates differ. ******************** was given a rate of $420.33 bringing her total to $3,476.65 with tax it comes to $3,833.01. This was told to ******************** and she paid her balance, shown on invoice with a $0.00 balance.

      Today she called and said she wanted to cancel, we explained all cost to her and she went off telling us she was going to the BBB and the police?

      We will gladly honor what she signed for of $1,743.00 plus ******* state sales tax, also listed on the contract if she comes and picks it up from the shop! This is a local pick -up not crated. We will secure her fish in her car for transportation.

      As the contract states, in the biggest boldest print - "DEPOSIT NOT REFUNDABLE". 

      I have personally put in a refund for her payment made on top of her deposit and she will have that in **** days after it is entered. 

      She calls us fraudsters and liars, she was explained everything up front and I would love to see her documentation other than what I have attached. She will have the exact paperwork.

      I apologize for wasting your time having to explain this when it is all black and white for the customer to see. It takes about 18 seconds to read our contract. Amazing there is a problem. And again, she was told what we were going to charge on her card and she agreed and now she is going to call the police.  

      As of now, her order is cancelled, refund submitted for payment and her deposit is always good towards THIS fish in the future.

      I am rejecting this response because:

      Atlantic Taxidermy's methods are highly deceptive.  Upon finishing a successful fishing trip, my 16 year old son caught a 97 inch Striped ****** in ****.  A man from "Atlantic Taxidermy" jumps on the boat, practically before the boat docks.  Of course I am going to have this trophy fish mounted for my son.  I am quoted a price of about $1,700 US dollars.  The "contract" CLEARLY shows the mount price, my deposit of $918 and the mount balance of $825.  It also clearly states that "SHIPPING, CRATING OR DELIVERY CHARGES NOT INCLUDED IN MOUNT PRICE."  This is fine, and I, correctly, assume that that will cost me about $500 US dollars.  This would bring my price to about $2,200 US dollars.  I did not include crating in my quick on the boat estimate, which comes to about $400 US dollars.  I discover that I did not do this when I receive THE ONLY OTHER PIECE OF PRINTED MATERIAL regarding this transaction.  As you can see from this invoice, my total amount is $2,846.27.  This is more than I wanted to spend, but ok, I get it.   

      Here's where the subterfuge comes in.  I am contacted by phone, by a representative of Atlantic Taxidermy.  He then sends an email of potential mounts.  I select the latter mount.  I DO NOT RECALL HIM EVER GIVING ME A PRICE INCREASE ON THAT AMOUNT ON THE ***** CALL.  Nor, was there any email or paper follow-up to indicate that the mount would cost more for a simple piece of board.  When I looked at my credit card statement, I realized that Atlantic Taxidermy had charged me a total of $3, 833.01.  While I had a conversation with their representative, when discussing which mount option I wanted, he kept saying that I owed them an additional $29.15.  (The actual amount charged was $2,915.01)  He then indicated that I would receive the mount in 5 - 7 months.  Ok, fine.  I do not EVER recall him saying that the wood plaque for my son's fish would cost an additional $895.00.  In addition, the person who wrote the response to my complaint indicates that this is "listed on invoice."  I DID NOT RECEIVE AN INVOICE WITH THIS AMOUNT ON IT.  

      As a result, I believe that despite the "contract" with Atlantic Taxidermy, they should also refund my deposit.  Again, their sales methods are circumspect at best.  And, it turns out that I am not the only person who believes that their business model is a scam.  The comments below are taken from ****** reviews regarding Atlantic Taxidermy:

      "Sadly I have to share the same story.  Wish I had known better.  Striped ****** caught in ****.  Quoted under $2k shipping included.  All said and done they held my deposit of $934 hostage to try to collect over $1800 more from me.  I never agreed to their inflated rates and they just ignored me r played off like it was my fault for not reading the contract despite me calling them regularly.  I tried to be nice, I tried to make a deal with them still to avoid contesting charges, only to have them not want to get involved.  Thankfully I have southwest miles and friends in South *******.  I'll be seeing you *** taxidermy in small claims court with signed witness letters and a pile of documents and suing you for my time and my deposit back.  Complete crooks and a bunch of jerks.  I hope y'all don't have to deal with these guys like any one of these other reviews have."

      I purchased a ********************* mount. Was lied to and was robbed by this company. Transactions occurred at a fish dock where I was told by the sales rep from Atlantic fish replica that my fish needed to be cleaned then shipped back to **. That didnt happen. Fish was sold to a fish market. I paid a deposit was told the shipping would cost me 100 US dollars. I received an invoice two weeks later ***** in shipping fees and additional ***** to make the replica. This business is a complete scam. Please do a simple internet search and you will read 100 plus reviews all saying the same thing. This company make s a living by lying and stealing from people. Then when you ask for a refund they refund to give it back. Owner admitted they hear this all the time. But could care less. He said the BBB is a complete joke and he is not scared of them.

      We do not receive any fish from ******. Our contract states that his fish will be a replica from the same size and species as fish caught. We do not need his fish in order to make a replica mount. How could they send us the fish to be molded if the fish was cut up and sold to the fish market?

      I do not see their order in the system and they did not provide an order number for me to look up so I attached an order form for you to see that the crating alone on a $1,600.00 fish is $384.00. This does not include shipping as the contract states as well. I would also state that his shipping fees are not $2,000.00, unless he lives in a VERY remote location and across the sea somewhere.

      Our company has been in business for over thirty years, we are very far from being a SCAM. Please do your review of our company and i believe you will see that our bad reviews most likely will not be our work but the failure of people reading their contract and understanding the cost. We try to give all possible costs, but shipping rates vary depending on where people live and we do not list shipping on the contract except saying that "SHIPPING, CRATING, OR DELIVERY CHARGES NOT INCLUDED IN THE MOUNTING PRICE". 

      Customer claims that the owner admitted something about refunds. It is very clear on the contract that "DEPOSIT NOT REFUNDABLE" largest boldest print on entire contract. And the owner of the company cares more about his company than anything else and would never state that he "could care less" really?

      As for the BBB, unfortunately we do receive e-mails from you regarding orders and the failure of customer to read their contract. Our responses are usually accepted and cases closed due to the customers failure to read a contract and it is just pointed out in my response.

      Sorry for wasting your time on yet another order placed and the customer not reading their contract and understanding the facts clearly stated on it.

      Uploaded is a certified letter I sent the company after trying to contact them multiple times by phone and leaving messages and never getting a return call. I have never had any return contact from this company other than the invoice. I originally wanted my item but after never hearing from the company I do not want to do business with them and want a refund as this has turned out to be a bait and switch scam where higher prices other than what was agreed upon are charged and no item is received unless you pay the higher prices. They also have a scam of keeping the deposit if the higher prices aren't paid. Also included both invoices and certified letter receipt.

      Atlantic Taxidermy was sent a certified letter that was written on the 15th of September to cancel the order, correct. Unfortunately, Mr. and *********************** caught their fish on August 1st, this is over a month and a half later. This is also after the couple did a chargeback 2 weeks after their fish was caught. The couple also lost the chargeback with their credit card. Our contract is very specific. Deposit not refundable as well as shipping, crating or deliveries not included in mounting price. The crating charge is listed on the contract. As for the shipping rate, this cannot be given because rates change from state to state as well as any add-ons the customer might do with their mount. 

      The consumer claims they were given different rates, yet there is nothing of the sort on the contract. If rates were given, it would have been incorporated on the contract. Our contract also states - we will not honor any oral representation.

      The customer can opt out for having their fish crated and shipping. Customers are welcome to come to the shop and pick up their fish and will only be charge what the mount cost (listed on contract) and Florida State Sales Tax - also listed on the contract. The customer is more than welcome to do their own shipping as well. They will just need to ship under Class 300, fragile upright freight. 

      Our company has been in business for over twenty years, we answer our phones and respond to e-mails.

      I believe this should resolve this issue.

      I am rejecting this response because: I did not file earlier as I was expecting a response from the company, I contacted them within days (I believe one day( of receiving their over priced invoice.  I have phone records showing this and all phone calls to them all before 30 days. 

      I have never had a complaint against a company before in my life, nor have I ever been scammed by a company so I am not familiar with the best way to handle this situation and thought going through the company would be the best avenue, however I was wrong. .  I would like a full refund as I live in ********, going to ******* to pick it up is not an option, and neither is loosing almost $500 due to misrepresentation.  I have never heard of a company taking so little responsibility for their lack of action (no response to the customer until a formal complaint is filed) and not standing behind their representative's sale pitch. I believe a full scam in keeping peoples deposits because we can't afford the additional charges.  Is there record of how many deposits are kept without completion of the product as like in this case?

      Transaction MX-****** dated 05/11/2022 The sales representative stated transaction is for a striped ****** reproduction mount 91" long a two sided full mount painted both sides, eyes on both sides and shipping included in the price.Salesperson charged a $564 deposit on my credit card and had me sign sales slip before explaining and making contact terms available. After receiving and reading the terms of the sale MX-****** from salesperson I saw that the mount was only painted on one side with no reference to eyes being placed both sides. I requested to the salesman I wanted my deposit returned. The salesman said deposits are non-refundable and I would be receiving a order confirmation "AMX-******" that shows shipping included and I would also receive information on various mont poses and that the eyes and painting would be two sided.Dated 05/16/2016 I received an order No AMX****** conformation which indicates shipping was in addition to the price quoted by the salesmen who indicated shipping was included in the indicated price. The order confirmation also did not indicate a full mount painted both sides or eyes placed both sides.Being the salesman did not explain or provide contact documents before charging my credit card and having me sign for the card deposit of $564 and that the order confirmation does not reflect what the salesman stated I would be getting in the sale, I request that my deposit of $564 be refunded.

      **************** is stating that his fish was to be 2 sided with eyes and painted on both sides. This is an upgrade and 70% more for the mounting cost. Our contract states that the mount is to be finished on one side unless otherwise noted on the contract. I attached his contract and nothing is noted on it besides the discount of -$301.00 to the cost of the mount. We were e-mailed the copy of the contract and was told a percentage of 40% for crating and shipping be honored for this order. **************** knew his crating and shipping fees would be $626.00. This was discussed with the customer and sent in to our shop via e-mail.
      Our contract also says, we do not honor any oral representations. If the discount was written on the contract why wasn't the double side of the fish? The gentleman that helped **************** in **** has been with the company for over twenty years and knows we do not double side or give free shipping.

      Work was started, materials and time used, deposit is not refundable.

      I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and contacted Cliff to clarify the original details of the purchase.  Cliff supplied the additional information that I was to receive and indicated it was previously sent on 05/17/2022.  I received the information and confirmed additional details needed to finalize the purchase.  I am happy with the resolution and apparently the emailed information got lost in junk.  I was unable to access several pages on the website that *** have also put me at ease if I could have seen the photo gallery etc.
