Money was paid for a letter head stating this roofing company to fix the flat roof on my house. Now they're backing out and to quote the roofer "I don't want to waste my time on that." Not only is that breaking contract, it's unprofessional. No mention of returning the money, nothing.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/08/08) */ This gentleman come into my business stating that his insurance company was getting ready to cancel him. He asked for a letter from my company stating that we are under contract for replacing his entire roof and I told him I would bet he needed to give me a deposit for $200.00 to be applied to the amount due on his new roof when it was completed. I had not heard from this man for several months and then he called and told us that he could not afford the shingle part of his roof that was over $13,000.00 but he wanted to do only the small flat roof and apply the two hundred to that. We are very busy at this time, and we don't have time for a partial roof. I feel like we were being used to get his insurance company off his back. If this customer emails a copy of the letter and proof of the amount, he gave (copy of the check) we will send a full refund. Thanks, Bill F.

Late afternoon on Nov 12 I signed a contract with Bill F. for a new roof. On Nov 15 I tried to cancel the contract but was run through the ringer by Mr. F. He told me it had to be cancelled within 72 hours, which it was. He denied that his contract said 3 business days and now wants to add on a 10% penalty for cancelling. I can't find his 10% penalty clause. seems like Mr F. has a veracity problem. The office girl said to put it in writing so I did. I brought 2 copies to his office to be signed. He refused to sign and told me to leave the office. I would like the return of the $4150 he has held for the past 65 hours.

      Business response

      12/17/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/17) */ I met with ****** ******** on Friday, November 12, 2021 around 2 pm. He had called me the day prior and wanted to move forward with the quote for a new roof that I had emailed him. It was a very good meeting. He bought the roof and a solar powered Attic Breeze vent. He gave me a deposit of and at that time he told me that he was glad the purchase was over because there was another roofer that was "high pressured" and "was bugging the ****" out of him. Mr. ******** told me that he could now call to stop his advances. On Monday, November 15th around 3pm I received a call from Mr. ******** requested to cancel the contract. He stated that it was a long story but that his brother-in-law is coming to stay and he was going to re roof the house because he had an LLC. I advised him how difficult it is to legally roof in Florida is due to The Florida Building Codes. Within about an hour, a man I had never seen before, knocked on the door at my office. He waved 2 pieces of paper in my face demanding I sign them. I asked him who he was and he refused to identify himself. This unidentified man was combative and ranted with foul language I feel the complaint is in the words of this man and may have been the other roofer that the homeowner said was pushing him to buy from. If Mr. ******** **** call my office to set up an appointment, we can come to an amicable solution. He will need to bring a valid ID. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/11/18) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Mr. F. has a hard time telling the truth. First of all the high pressure and bugging is a total fabrication. I had gotten one other quote at the time and never talked to them again.Secondly the office girl told me to put the cancellation in writing which is why I showed up on Monday with two letters of cancelation. He knew who I was and acted like a 7 year old,my wifes description, but spot on. He refused to sign the papers which I felt I needed because he certainly can't be taken at his word.. He told me he had pulled a permit already and I would have to pay for it and an additional 10% penalty Did I read the contract he asked? My question is, did he? He told me it had to be cancelled within 72 hours, when the contract says three business days' There also is no 10% penalty clause in the contract which he cited. I did nothing wrong and followed his contract. He was then sent a ceretified letter and told to refund the money. Mr F. surely can't be trusted. He can send my deposit of $4150 to me or drop it off. Anything less and I will go to court. Consumer Response /* (3000, 12, 2021/12/01) */ I have not gotten a response from BIG C, nor gotten my refind. Is my nrxt step the attorney general? Consumer Response /* (3000, 15, 2021/12/09) */ Big C Restoration finally sent me my deposit, minus $308.25 for "fees". I am not cashing the check and will see Mr. F. in court. Business Response /* (4000, 17, 2021/12/07) */ As I stated in my last response, if Mr. ******** will call my office to set up an appointment, we can come to an amicable solution BUT he will need to bring a valid ID. The only response we received from this was slander on the internet. When Mr. ******* came into my office, I did not know it was him. I meet with many people during the course of the week. I did not know if he was another roofer or the brother-in-law he spoke of. When asked to identify himself the man refused. He also refused me time enough to read the paper he was literally waving around & insisting that I sign it. I do not and will not make a habit of writing checks to anyone for thousands of dollars without a valid ID. We at Big C apologize for the inconvenience. And have sent him a check for his deposit minus administrative and permitting fees with Charlotte County via certified US mail.
