In July I signed my new lease. Last week they raised my rent again. There is nothing in my lease that allows them to do this. I'm a senior and on a fixed income. The blinds in the bedroom broke did break them. They told me that I should buy the blinds, feel it is their problem to fix. Also e-mailed them to come and measure the window. I will not do it myself because it is to high for me and afraid of falling. e-mailed them last Friday about this. Know they received it. Want to know why rent was raised. Also don't want any other tenent to go through this. Please help me. Want to know why they did this. Feel discrimated against. Would also like my rent to go back down to the original price/

      ************************,

I apologize for the significant delay in responding to the complaint.  I found it in my spam folder as I was cleaning it out today.

I have attached a copy of the complainants' lease which clearly reflects a lease termination date of May 31, 2024.  Florida Statutes allows a landlord to increase rents as they deem appropriate to meet increasing operating expenses.  The statute requires the landlord to give the tenant thirty (30) days advance notice.  The tenant was sent a rental increase letter significantly in advance of her lease termination date to provide her as much time to identify a new residence if she chose to not renew her lease at the new rental rate.  We understand that the tenant is a senior citizen and on a fixed income however we are forced to increase rents to meet the significant increase in taxes, insurance and other operating expenses.  I can assure you that the landlord is not reaping any additional income from the rental increase.

The complaint also states that the landlord failed to repair the tenants bedroom blinds and that the landlord told the tenant that she would be responsible for the cost.  I've attached a copy of the tenants service request dated October 18, 2023 which reflects that it was completed the same day at no cost to the tenant.  I will be happy to provide a picture of the replaced blind if necessary.

When I researched the 1/1 apt website said $995. Leasing Agent told me on the phone $1015. When I came to view the apt she told me it was $200 more.. she said due to size and being completely renovated. When I visited she told me the move in deposit was $599 then called me and changed it to $799 said that the rent special was for previous month. The special is still posted on their site. By the time I went to sign the lease she had a price of $1400 with monthly water/sewer $75. She kept changing the price without giving proof or why the changes. THE ACTUAL RENT FOR THIS APT should be $995. I am an out of ****** Senior Citizen who is a victim of rent gouging. I moved in on the 2/7 however when I asked about prorated rent she just said we dont do that I do not anyone else victimized this way.

I signed a lease, which was a renewal, agreeing to charges of $945 for rent, a $25 flat rate fee for water, and a $25 flat rate fee for sewer, as well as agreeing to pay $30 for pet fees monthly which was done through extra paperwork when I acquired my pets in the middle of my previous lease. A representative of the company reviewed the lease afterwards and signed it as well. When I went online to pay for my rent, 6 days later, I saw they were charging me $1,050 total when I agreed to $1,025. I called office and they told me that their employee "made a mistake" (their exact words) and that they'd need to destroy the first lease and send me out a new, updated one to sign. I refused to do so because a lease is a biding contract for both parties; meaning I can't change the terms and neither can they. They told me there was no other option and that is what would be happening and I informed them I would only be paying the amount stated in our mutually signed document. I'm upset with the fact that they only provided me with the lease 6 days before I was to either move out or start a new lease, but I'm more upset about the fact that the apartment complex feels they can charge me whatever they'd like when the documents that we both signed says otherwise. It is through no fault of my own that the employee didn't verify the terms before having me sign the lease and they also failed to read through the lease and verify it before signing it themselves. A signature is an agreement that every word in that document is correct and you agree to that and those terms. I need the apartment complex to update my fees to the correct amount immediately. I've uploaded my lease, screenshots of the apartments online payment website detailing fees owed according to them, and a screenshot of the confirmation that I have a payment pending for my agreed upon rent and fees for the first billing period.

On Friday evening 8/19/2022 I received a letter of lease renewal with the date of lease ending 9/30/22. The New rate will be ***** plus$75 water. I was not given proper notice of my 60 days to find proper housing or remain on premise. The letter states that an additional $850 on top of regular rate is the penalty for not giving a written notice in the allotted 60 days. I went to the office and spoke to ****** she told me that corporate gave them the leases late and that they would work with me but refused to give me anything in writing. So I have no road map. I need some help. Lord have mercy on the widows son.
