About 10 month after reroofing was completed by ****** Roofing there started to be a step of approximately one inch on the west facing site of the roof. I first contacted ****** Roofing about it in Dec 2021, Christmas time was coming up and he said he would come in January2022, towards the end of January I contacted him again and he claimed to be out of state and would come in a week or two, and that went on a few more times, at one point I got him on the phone and he falsely claimed that he had made me aware that there would be a step in my new roof. I asked him again to come out and fix it and he refused. The roof was completed in Feb 2021 and has 10 years Warranty on workmanship.

      Hello ****,
My name is ****** ****** owner of ****** ****** Roofing Corp.
I have received your letter in the mail regarding the complaint stated against my company.

First, i want to clear up that The “step” on the roof that the customer is talking about is part of the structure of their home and it has nothing to do with the roof work we did. That is plywood from the original structure of the home that was installed either during the original construction of the home or an addition later on. The step/plywood did not just appear over 10 months like the customer stated it was always there. And i have pictures proving this prior to starting job, and during the job. It is the way the roof sheathing was originally designed.

There is a 1 inch plywood overlap that you can see aesthetically but has nothing to do with the installation of the new roof. The 1 inch plywood overlap was originally there and is part of the structure of the home. The roof was installed correctly and to code and passed all necessary inspections. There is nothing wrong with the roof that requires the warranty or any claim.

The customer did contact me about this but after talking about it and sending him pictures i was under the impression that we were both under the same understanding, however i see that he took this to the BBB and can see he didn’t truly agree. I just want to make it clear that we did nothing wrong in this job and have all the proof to back it up including the completed permit from the city.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to call or email me I would be more than glad to assist you. Thank you

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

      Hi,

Regarding the 1” step on my new roof,

Yes the old 24year old roof had a step as well, in a ****er of fact it had several uneven spots and missing or replaced shingles as well, as it seems normal for a roof of that age.

At no point prior or during new roof installation hat Mr ****** made me aware that my new roof would have a one inch step and or uneven spots on it that would affect it aesthetically.
If I was made aware of it I would have most certainly wanted it to be corrected, after all, the House was without shingles for nearly 30 days between old shingle removal and new shingle installation so there was sufficient time to make such corrections.

As Mr ****** states the roof has passed inspection and the problem is only aesthetically,
but for a new roof, wouldn’t one expect the roof to be without aesthetic flaws,
further if the old roof had a one inch step and missing shingles on it would it then be acceptable if the new roof had missing shingles as well!

On several occasions Ms ****** had failed to come out and inspect the roof, on the last no show he was supposed to come with an independent inspector which he also failed to do and after witch I advised him that I would report him to the BBB.

Throughout the whole reroofing process Mr ****** has repeatedly proven to be un-responsible and very unreliable.
The main reason of my actions is to have my roof fixed and to keep others from having to go through similar headaches with Mr ****** at ****** ****** Roofing Corp.

      Sincerely ,

      **** ****  **********

      Hello ****,

I am writing to respond to the second letter I received regarding the complaint ID stated above.

In response to the clients rejection of my first response I want to state a couple things.

First I want to make clear that this “step” he is talking about is original plywood overlapping another layer of plywood from the existing structure of this home. It has nothing to do with the wood being in bad condition. The “step” is being caused by the way the original trusses were designed. It has nothing to do with the work we did. I want to clarify I am only a roofing company not a truss company.

Second I want to state that in the clients first letter he claims the “step” began appearing after 10 months of the roof being completed. However in his second letter he now mentions that the roof did in fact have a step. Meaning he always knew about this aesthetic issue.

Third, there is nothing to be corrected on this roof, it is the way the home structure was designed. I understand he doesn’t like how it looks but it has nothing to do with our job or workmanship. We installed this roof to code and did everything we had to do. If he really wants this aesthetic issue to be removed to his liking he would need to contact a general contractor and proper engineers to pull necessary permits and drawings to modify his trusses to his liking. However that wouldn’t be my responsibility.

Fourth, he is now trying to complain about his roof being without shingles for nearly 30 days when it has nothing to do with the issue he is complaining about. But I do want to say that when he was doing his roof all roofing companies were going through a shingle shortage in the entire state of Florida with unexpected delivery times due to COVID and many factories shutting down production. However we installed the shingles in a timely manner according to product approvals. He had his underlayment installed while the shingles arrived so his roof was water sealed during this time. I understand that waiting for material longer than usual can stress a homeowner out and maybe this is why he thought I was unreliable and un responsible. However I stand by my work and have had many happy clients throughout my experience.

Fifth I understand he is unhappy about this AESTHETIC issue but we have nothing to do with it. But as you can clearly see from the complaints it’s only an AESTHETIC issue and nothing more. There is nothing wrong with the integrity of this new roof.

      Thank you
