On 6/30/22, I employed the services of JB SRQ - Handyman In advance of being hired, I spoke w and txt JB describing 2 repairs to be done (1) replace hinge on a kitchen cabinet & (2) attach curio to wall using 2 hooks. I sent by txt, photos of the exact hinge requiring replacement as well as the curio. ** indicated that he gets ($75 per hour) plus materials (at cost) basis. JB is located in ******** and our home is nearby in ************. The 2 repairs do not constitute a big job. It should have taken as little as 1 & at most 2 hrs to complete. I wasn't home when JB was there, but my partner *** was. *** said ** finished securing the curio, but didn't bring the hinge w him for the cabinet. So, he went to ****** in ******** for the hinge. ** came back later w the hinge and attached it. His total time on premise was under 2 hours. He handed Jan an invoice for 6 hrs and also charged approx $40 for materials. I was in disbelief. The hours were grossly overstated, and the materials reimbursement demanded was not supported by a receipt having anything to do with our repair; absolutely fraudulent behavior! I requested receipts for the ************* as they could not have cost $40.00. ** provided Jan with 2 receipts. 1 for the hinge. The 2nd receipt had no connection w the repair performed. It was for vinyl PVC tubing for another job, dated days before JB's retention. When confronted on the phone, **'s response was abusive and basically, "tough luck". I'm here now at your place and expect to be paid. I told *** to pay him the $405 under protest, as I was seriously concerned about her physical well-being I told ****** would follow up w BBB as well as filing a consumer fraud complaint. I was grossly overcharged for his time at more than 6 hrs when he was only on premise for approx 2 hrs, even when combined w the shopping trip that was not required since he knew, in advance, the specific hinge required. I have the invoice & bogus receipt provided for materials
