Gulf Gate Aluminum built a concrete Lanai extension with screened cage for ** in July, August, September 2021 at a cost of $11,000+ which was paid in full according to our contract.Late September I notified Gulf Gate of a standing water problem. Areas of the slab were at a lower elevation than the edge, rainwater could not flow uphill over the edge of the cage.Over the following 12+ months I notified Gulf Gate several times that the defect need to be corrected. Gulf Gate put shims under the cage railing to facilitate drainage, then later installed water gates at additional cost to me. That did not help drainage, water does not flow uphill! We constantly had standing water puddles after every rainfall.Pictures were sent to Gulf Gate many times during the last 12 months together with a request for an inspection by a senior Gulf Gate manager as well as contact information for the Gulf Gate Aluminum owner/CEO/President to no avail. After 15 months of communicating the deficiencies in the slab and providing supporting pictures, I received an email on 12/01/2022 from **************** (******, whom I have been corresponding with all this time) saying I do not understand. Are you saying that the water is not draining? Do you have a picture that will help show this?I sent more pictures as I have done during the year. Standing water is a health hazard.

      Good afternoon,

We are currently in the process of resolving this issue with the client.

Unfortunately, this matter was presented to us about the time that Hurricane *** hit ******** and surrounding counties. Since then, we have been absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of calls and damage that needs to be dealt with; we placed priority and focused on clients who needed complete rebuilds due to the extreme extent of damage. Since business has slowly begun to calm down since the aftermath of the storm, we have begun returning to production as normal.

Consequently, we are now speaking with the client in an attempt to find a resolution that satisfies both parties and displays an above satisfactory level of workmanship and quality.

      Thank you,

      Gulf Gate Aluminum

      Complaint: 18640154

I am rejecting this response because: The response from Gulf Gate Rescreening does not include a resolution to the defect, it simply says that my problem was presented to ********* shortly before hurricane *** hit the ******** Area, when the problem was presented to ********* in September 2021 - a year before hurricane Ian.

********* yesterday in a phone call suggested to cover my lanai with pavers to eliminate the water puddling problem. They estimated the cost to be approx. $4,200 of which I should pay 50%. I rejected their proposal insisting that I should not be required to help pay for a construction defect caused by Gulf Gate. In addition, covering my lanai with pavers will render my custom hurricane shutters useless. to correct that, I would have to have hurricane screens installed at a cost of $5,000 to $6,000.

during this phone call the Gulf Gate representative, ******, indicated that she would relay this to management.

      No solution yet.

      Sincerely,

      *******************************

      To whomever it may concern,

We understand the homeowner's frustration with this project development and have been attempting to come up with solutions in order to solve this as best as possible.

We have sent out supervisors to the property in search of a solution and have scheduled to send him out again this Thursday, January 26. This meeting has been approved by the homeowner.

We want to assure that this issue is completed to satisfaction, however, we are still in the process of finding a viable solution.

      Thank you for your patience.

On 10/8/22 I had Gulf Gate Rescreening come to my house to get an estimate to repair 5 screen panels on my 2-story lanai that were damaged by hurricane ***. They gave me a quote of $1700.00 to repair the screens, I knew it was a high quote, but I needed to get it repaired and agreed. After talking to many of those who were affected by *** they all said that the price seems very excessive. They came when scheduled on 10/24/22 to do the repair which was done without issue. I believe that they are price-gauging me and probably others. 5 panels @340.00 each, when I used them in the past on 4/9/2020 they charged me $90.00 for 1 panel.Thank you

We apologize for not responding sooner as we do not show receipt of your email in our records back in October.

In regards to the complaint of price gouging:

The previously mentioned job was completed in April 2020 in the beginning of the pandemic. It was one easy access panel, and the job was slightly discounted in order to accommodate the client. It is important to note that screen repair prices vary depending on the difficulty and access of the screen panels. Higher and difficult access panels will be more expensive than others.

To address the complaints, we'd first like to explain that there have been multiple price increases from our suppliers within the almost three years since April 2020. Aside from the normal price increases one would expect over that time, we also encountered manufacturing and shipping price spikes in virtually all construction materials, including screens.
Additionally and most importantly, labor costs have gone up; This includes office and sales personnel, to inside warehouse workers, and especially installers. With the two recent hurricanes in our area, labor is currently in high demand. Therefore, to keep our employees, we must pay them much more, especially our skilled technicians that perform dangerous and difficult work, including what was needed to complete this client's project.

We came out to estimate this particular client on Saturday, October 8th, 2022 just a few days after the storm.
It was a two-story project, with all five panels on the upper levels. To accomplish this work, we need to bring tall and heavy ladders and have our technicians over a pool, which can pose possibly dangerous conditions.
Upon giving the clients a written quote, the customer approved the work to be done by our company. If there were any problems with pricing, we believe that these concerns should have been communicated to us when the price was given.

We showed up to perform the work on October 24th as described in the approved quote-- "without issue" as per client. The client proceeded to pay, once again, without complaint.

In regards to price gouging, we strongly suggest the customer to obtain more quotes from other reputable, insured, and licensed companies to compare our pricing. It is absolutely not our intention to price ***** anyone.

Gulf Gate Rescreening carries an esteemed reputation among our customers and we absolutely want to keep it this way.

      Best Regards.
