Would love to give less than one star. This will be long, but hopefully informative so people can make a smart choice. Just Water Systems (JWS) showed up at the house i recently bought in Apollo Beach saying they would test my water for free and since it takes 30 minutes they would give me a $100 gift card to Amazon, or whatever I chose. I knew they would likely sell me something afterwards, but since my partner was considering getting a water softener system I figured I would let them do their thing and get a nice little gift card in the process. This was July 12 or 13. I set the water test for July 16. So July 16 comes and no one shows up. On Saturday, July 17, a person from JWS shows up saying they couldnt reach me the day before but they are ready to do the appointment. They wrote down my phone number wrong the first time, but they gave me another post card like piece of paper, setting an appointment for later that day and circling which gift card I wanted. So now i have two of those cards, that say what gift card I want. A rep shows up later that day and gives the water test. Basically tells us our water is going to kill us since it has so much chlorine in it and other junk. The rep was super nice, this review is no reflection on him. We were then told if we wanted their system we had to decide right there and then to the pricing, no time to think or anything, and as soon as he walks out the door the price will go from the $6,000 or so cheaper price, back to the nearly $8,000 general price. Right off the bat I knew this to be sketchy, and a coercive sale. However, I asked if they could throw in a reverse osmosis system. The rep calls the owner, Nathan, outside, comes back and says we can get the reverse osmosis system and they'll take an additional 1,000 off. This is all seeming more and more sketchy. However, as a recent law school graduate I knew my rights regarding home solicitations, and that, by statute, any contract signed is voidable by the signing party if made within three days of the signing. So, we agreed to the price. But we also had to agree to them installing the system within 24-48 hours. At first it seems like a great turnaround, but in actuality it is to avoid that Florida statute about the three-day cancellation. Although, just for everyone's reference, even if it is installed within three days, you can still cancel and have them remove everything as long as you cancel within three days of the contract signing. Anyway, the rep leaves and 30 minutes later I get a call from Nathan, the owner, trying to set up an install time. I ignore it, because I was researching the company and Nathan the owner. The more I researched the more I knew I was going to cancel the contract. So, within 30 minutes of Nathan calling me, he shows up at my door. I was out getting house supplies but can see him through the cameras. This move alone, showing up at my house after a missed phone call, immediately made me want to cancel the contract. It just seemed highly inappropriate, and on a Saturday no less. I see him hang out for about 5 minutes and then he tries calling me again. I don't answer. He texts me asking me to call back. I text back later. I discovered in my research that Nathan has started and ended many different businesses. That JWS was started in January, 2021. Barely in existence for 6 months, and they are offering lifetime warranties on their products. What if they go under? What happens to that warranty? Well, the simple answer is I am screwed. Anyway, I also learned that the "scam" water companies try to convince people that they are drinking pool water, which JWS said. Scam companies also use coercive tactics, like JWS. JWS also seemingly copied the name of an established water company called Just Water Treatment. Another sketchy move. I reached out to Just Water Treatment, asked them about JWS and their prices, and a very nice lady told me she has heard negative things about JWS, without wanting to be too disparaging, and told me that their pricing is crazy high. She then quoted me a system for about $2200 or so, I can't remember the exact price. So that sealed the deal, I was cancelling. But, I wanted to give Nathan a chance. So I texted him back, expressed my concerns, this is all on a Saturday still, and he asks for my email so he can send me a complete response. I made a bet with my partner that he doesn't send that email until three days have passed so that way the contract becomes fully enforceable. The next day, Sunday, I went out to buy stamps (because who sends things by mail anymore), and that night I dropped my cancelled contract in the mailbox with a letter. Sent it to the business address of JWS and the mailing address, according to Sunbiz. [This is a side note and may not be related, but ever since my text back to Nathan suggesting I might be getting scammed, my phone started blowing up with spam calls. Could be coincidence, but I went from one or two spam calls a week to about 4 a day.] Anyway, three full days pass and guess who finally emails back?? He knew exactly what he was doing, hoping to take advantage. Luckily, I had already signed my cancellation and sent a letter expressing why I am cancelling, and added my address (which he already knows since he showed up at mt door) so they can send me the gift card I was promised. I replied to the email, telling Nathan I already mailed the cancelled contract, and that I look forward to getting my gift card. At this point I started receiving 5-10 spam calls a day, and it lasted just about a week before the calls suddenly stopped. Weird coincidence, but still thought I would mention it. So, on July 17 is when I signed the contract. I cancelled on July 18, which became effective as soon as I dropped it in the mail. It is now August 14, and I have not received my gift card. Looks like the gift card was just an empty promise to get inside my house to scare me into buying an $8,000 water system that is highly unnecessary. This is a scam company with unethical business practices. DO NOT USE Just Water Systems. I hope this extensive story helps keep people aware of what could happen. I am also going to try and attach a photo of the papers they gave that promised a gift card.
