We had a wedding on March 25, 2023 that required a $1,000 deposit to be returned 15 days after the wedding pending damages. We were notified the following Tuesday, March 28, 2023 that there were two issues: cosmetic scratches on an outdoor wooden platform, and a substance on a dresser in the house that couldnt be easily removed, which we dont believe we caused. As of April 7, 2023, 13 days after the wedding, we have requested our deposit back and the business owners are requesting our event insurance information for damages greater than our security deposit. They have not acknowledged that we have disputed the dresser. The pictures of the reported damages are attached. We would like to request the full amount $1,000 deposit to be returned immediately.Business response

The venue contract that both parties signed explains the process of what will happen in the event that there is damage caused to the venue and property during the course of an event. It is stated in the contract that the venue has up to two weeks to complete a thorough inspection of the property to assess for damages. In the case that there are no damages, the security deposit is returned in full. If there are damages, it is explained that the security deposit will be applied by Mill Pond to the costs of such repair and/or cleaning. Any portion of the Security Deposit in excess will be returned; if the Security Deposit is insufficient to reimburse Mill Pond for such costs, Client shall be responsible for any deficiency. The couple was informed that event insurance was a requirement for hosting their event with us, and this information was to be filed with us before the start of the event. Both security deposits and event day insurance are normal and reasonable procedures in the event industry. The couple was informed of the damages three days after the event and that we were working on getting professional quotes to assess the damage and would be back in touch. It is our opinion that this complaint is premature and that we should continue to work through the the process as outlined in the contract.
