    Advertising Review:
In May 2022, BBB contacted the business regarding the surveys that are sent to consumers that appear to be from well known retailers. Consumers that complete surveys found out that they received unauthorized charges and are enrolled in a monthly subscription, and that the survey was not actually affiliated with the retailer. BBB requested the business substantiate that the claims meet the standards outlined in BBB's Code of Advertising (Section 18, Negative Option Plans, Continuity Plans and Automatic Shipments). The Code maintains that "Any advertisement for a product or service that includes an offer to sell or provide consumers with additional goods or services under a negative option feature must include a clear and conspicuous disclosure of all material terms of the negative option feature." Material terms that should be clear and conspicuous include the existence of the negative option feature, the cost of the additional goods or services, how consumers can cancel and avoid future shipments and charges, and how consumers can return items that they do not want. The Code continues that "advertisers must avoid making disclosures that are vague, unnecessarily long or which contain contradictory language."

As of this date, the business has not responded to BBB's request for substantiation about its advertising.

On May 6, 2022, I received an e-mail claiming I had won a free foot massager and that I would only need to pay $7.95 for shipping. On May 11, 2022, a charge of $63.71 was billed to my card without my knowledge. I called customer support requesting directions for returning the foot massager and a refund of the $63.71. The representative told me that the foot massager could not be returned, and that the $63.71 was for a subscription for Consumer Direct Savings. Neither the email I received nor the checkout page mentioned a subscription being including, so I requested the subscription to be cancelled. She told me it had been cancelled and provided me this cancellation number: *****. Lastly, she told me that I would receive an e-mail with instructions for getting a refund. I have, as of yet, not received the e-mail. I went to the Super Tech Gadget Store website and found their refund policy. It said nothing about disqualifying conditions for returning a purchase and simply said to request an item return number by email. I tried contacting the vendor via e-mail, but I only received a reply redirecting me to the customer service phone number. I called again to request a refund. After I was told the same thing as in the previous call, I mentioned the website's return policy, and the other end of the call went silent for nearly 5 minutes. I hung up and called again. A different representative told me they were a third party call center and couldn't help me with my issue.

I received an email to take a survey. I wasn't busy - so I thought okay I'll help someone and do a survey. It was for Home Depot. So I did the survey and at the end it said, choose a thank you from us. I thought well, Home Depot can afford it so I picked one. You just needed to pay the shipping which was $7.95. No problem. But a week later, I noticed a charge on my card for $63.71. I called and they said - oh we are a 3rd party customer service - that was a membership fee you paid. I explained I did not sign up for any membership. All I did was a survey to help Home Depot. She said she could give me 1/2 back and drop my name from the company. I said ok, guess I got scammed - so I took the 50% refund and informed her that I would report the company to BBB.
