I called Priority HVAC for an annual AC maintenance they advertised for $59. My regular maintenance person has moved out of the area. Everything was fine until I was given the bill for the maintenance. I was told the capacitor was rusted and about to fail so he replaced it and charged me $179.00!!! Anybody can go to Grangers or any supply house and get that same capacitor for under $30.00. What a ripoff.

Our company provided service to Mr. ****** in October 2020, upon reviewing the records the homeowner was given the price to replace capacitor and approved it we did not just put part in without approval. When paying for a part you are paying for us to have part on truck install and warranty that item it's not just picking up a part from a chain store. We provide a service by a trained technician and warranty on parts installed and never install without reason and approval. Upon talking to Mr. ****** we also called around and price shopped capacitors with other AC companies and they ranged anywhere from $140-$359 in price. In no way did we set out to rip anyone off and unfortunately tried to make this homeowner happy even though it had been over a year since service to no avail. In spite of what they say, I found out the cost of the capacitor when I was presented the bill for service. I WAS NOT TOLD THE PRICE OF THE CAPACITOR PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. I would not have replaced the capacitor if I knew it cost $178.00 because it was replaced the year before for $60.00, when the original OEM capacitor stopped working. I was also told that the outside fan motor bearings were bad and that that motor should be replaced because it was going to fail soon. Today, 1 year later, the motor is fine and operating within specifications as reported by the technician that just completed this years tuneup. He also tested the capacitor that was replaced last year and there is nothing wrong with it. It was replaced for only one reason. $$$. Commission???
When speaking with the owner, I asked him if his technicians were on commission and he said "some were". The owner also "slipped" when he said the techs look for problems because he said they can't make money "just doing service" for $59.00, THEIR advertised price. When I called him on his "slip" he started laughing saying he didn't mean what he just said.
I told him he should stop his add in the paper for a "$59.00 tuneup".
