Yesterday I took my 3 month old kitten in for a basic declaw procedure and the vet mixed up the anesthesia dose and gave her too much so her heart stopped/ burst during surgery and they couldn't revive her. This was due to carelessness of the doctor and sloppy work, they did not double check anything or bother to follow basic medical procedure of the surgery. I have requested medical records of the surgery and they said it would take a couple days for the doctor to complete them, I believe that they are going to falsify the documents to make it look like they didn't do anything wrong on paper. I don't know why it wasn't done same day or even right after. I immediately went in to get my kitten and see what happened and they wanted to argue with me that I needed to pay for her to be cremated. I told them I was not paying to have my cat cremated that they killed. They brought in the manager who was absolutely rude to me when I said that the doctor should not be doing surgery if she is incapable A) because she is old and B) because apparently she wasn't use to doing a front and back declaw, only has ever done front. She should have been transparent from the beginning if she was uncomfortable doing the surgery. He told me if I was going to protest outside or tell people not to go there he would call the cops on me, and I hadn't even done any of those things yet I was still standing there crying over my dead cat. The whole staff was rude and unprofessional from the second it became about money. That place and everyone in it doesn't care about the pets that go there. It isn't fair my baby only got to live for 3 months before a doctor who was negligent and incapable of doing a specific surgery took her life from her. I want that rude manager to be fired and that doctor to lose her license. that facility should not be able to preform any type of surgery if they can't even properly administrate the correct dose of anesthesia. I want this place shut down.

My animal was taken in for a routine dental cleaning . Prior to the dental cleaning my dog was taken in for a check up to make sure he was ok to have the dental cleaning. At that time i discussed with the doctor a possible food allergy and was told he didnt have a skin condition or fungus and was fine but i could change his food to the in office food. I declined to purchase this food and bought my own else where to help with his food allergy. My dog was brought in for his dental cleaning and was returned to me with a sore on his side. He did not recover from what i thought/was told was the effects of anesthesia. He was licking his side after the procedure. i looked and observed the skin to be raw. i took him back the following day after his dental cleaning and was told it may take a few days for him to recover from the anesthesia and was told they did not know what the sore was. Had them treat the area clean the area and provide an ointment . My dog did not get better the following days and his condition declined. He wouldnt move, eat, drink, or come when called. I then took my pet to urgent care. Upon seeing the now scabbed over wound on my dogs side i was told that the blackened and red skin looked like a burn from a medical table. This was the only cause for the wound that the vet suggested. I received treatment at the urgent care and was provided with medications. I took my dog to another vet for a second opinion and was told the exact same thing. The wound was positively identified as a burn. I was told to warm the dogs after they get anesthesia a heating pad or bair hugger is used which could have caused the burn. The burn is is a literal straight line. This vets office an employees are neglectful and uncaring. The doctor who saw my dog and did his teeth cleaning was Dr. Debra Deem M*****, DVM, DACVIM and she was also assisted by a vet tech Patricia M*******. He never had any skin condition other than the burn which they caused although they claim he did.

      Business response

      04/07/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2022/03/23) */ To Whom It May Concern, Patient was presented to our hospital on 10/20/2021 for a dental consult where skin allergies were also discussed with the doctor. Per Dr. Debra Deem M*****' notes from the visit, the patient had been licking at paws and at the back end for a while, and also had skin irritation on the torso and the cause of his allergies was currently unknown. Because of his skin irritation, a hypoallergenic diet was recommended for him and declined by the client upon conclusion of this consultation. Patient was admitted for a dental cleaning on 11/3/2021 where extractions and vaccinations were performed in addition to the dental cleaning. Client was given discharge instructions explaining that pets may experience discomfort after surgery due to residual anesthesia and possible post-operative pain and it is recommended to let patients rest for 18-24 hours and restrict activity while they recover from anesthesia. Patient was presented to us again on 11/4/2021 after the dental procedure with the client citing low energy and the patient was biting at his skin due to possible allergies or anxiety post-anesthesia. During this visit, it was discussed that he previously was wearing an elizabethian collar for his skin issue that client had now removed, and the spots in which he was biting at were clipped and cleaned and an antibiotic cream was sent home to help treat his skin issue. The skin issue was also noted as pyotraumatic dermatitis, a common skin infection in canines, and it was recommended to resume use of an elizabethan collar to keep patient from further irritating his skin. At this time, no allergy testing was performed to pinpoint the cause of the skin issue, but the patients previously discussed skin allergies and the possibility of anxiety due to the anesthesia were noted by Dr. Debra Deem M*****. The heating pad in which client claims burned patient is a very thin material that has been reviewed by past clients as only getting to a lukewarm temperature, which is why our patients are all placed and wrapped on the heating pad with at least two blankets and towels while surgery is performed, and small warming pads are used in conjunction with our main heating pad. The heating pad does not exceed 107 degrees Fahrenheit and is routinely kept at a temperature of only 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while first degree burns are not attainable until a temperature of at least 118 degrees Fahrenheit has been reached. Our Vinyl Circular Heating Pad has also been noted as a safe heat therapy product and is routinely utilized multiple times per week on our surgery patients without any issue having arisen prior to or after this complaint, so compensation/reimbursement to client is being declined. Sincerely, Affordable Pet Hospital
