I am currently a resident at Cortona South Tampa. This company has taken over owning this facility and continues to price gouge residents post pandemic. It should be illegal what they are doing here. Taking advantage of those that need to rent, while making rules impossible to stay here. I have been an exceptional tenant for three years at this location. Inflation is one thing but taking advantage of people is another. They have risen my rent from my initial start rate of 1859 and now it has been hiked up with my renewal rate being $2750. My neighbor across the way who left they tried charging $3000. This is well over a house payment and this price gouging should be illegal. In an effort to stay here having been a great tenant, I was looking to possibly move into a different townhome when my lease is up which is lower priced. They will not allow me to take a different townhome because it's a lower price because they want to make money off of me. It makes no sense to me that they would rather be vacant while many people continue to move out of this community because of their price gouging. They state that everyone's doing it leaving the excuse of the market is what it is but they are the highest in the market charging ridiculous prices. The interior of this home is not the quality of a $3000 home. On top of that if the market goes down my rent will not go down they just increase the price to accommodate themselves and force people into payments that should be illegal. This is a difficult time post-pandemic for everyone and the fact that they are taking advantage of people and that they are extremely greedy should be reported. I am a critical care nurse, I frequently pay my rent ahead and am disgusted how this company takes advantage of people. The fact that there is no regulation here to stop landlords from taking advantage of people and allows them to do this is scary.
