I answered an ad from a mail flyer to A Cut Above The Best, Inc a landscaping firm out of ******, **. I desired to have curbing installed around trees and flower beds on my corner lot in *********, **. Supervisor *********************** came to my home on July 6, 2022 and estimated my job at three days and we agreed on a price of $3,600.00 to install the curbing around flower beds and 5 trees along the shrub line along side and at the rear of the house and fill the circles with brown river rock and address a downspout drainage issue at the rear of the house. Later he took a $100 credit card deposit over the phone and stopped by and I gave him a check for an additional $300. I received a written estimate via e-mail on July 7. Days later workers began by removing the old sections of curbing and later prepared the areas for the new material. Later they addressed the drainage issue as ****** suggested and we agreed on. Days later they began laying the new colored custom concrete curbing with the design I had chosen. Once they began filling the circles with the brown rock I was quite pleased with the result. This took a few days as they showed up late in the afternoon or not at all or early and worked all day. When it appeared the work was close to finished I phoned ****** telling him the work looked great and he should stop by for payment. The men worked three more days dumping gravel where it was not needed atop white rock that was already there beneath a long shrub line. I was curious but figured it was part of the job. When ****** did show up he told be the bill was now $8,400 in addition to the $400 I had already given him. I was shocked and told him at was more than twice the price we had agreed on. He was serious. I asked why the increase and he said the additional rock was expensive. I authorized no work beyond what we had originally agreed on. I felt intimidated and gave him a check for $8,400 a full $5,200 more than the price we agreed on. I can't help but feel was taken.
