My daughter purchased a $200 online gift certificate for my wife and me to use at Polo Grill. We ate there on 1/1/2023. Our bill came to $125.73. The certificate was purchased from gconline.com, a gift card vendor. (gift care #****************, request ID ******. Upon presenting the gift certificate, we were told that we could not use it for gratuities, and we would not get change back. We either had to use the whole $200 -- then or ay another time --or we would forfeit the balance. We had no plans to return, We do not usually eat at such expensive restaurants, and found both the food and the service there to be bad. So I paid another way, and was told I could contact the restaurant owner about a refund. When I called the owner (responding through the restaurant manager) said there were no refunds on gift certificates. I am now stuck with a gift certificate to a restaurant were -- trust me -- I will never eat again, and the owner gets my daughter's $200 as pure profit. Friends in the restaurant business tell me that it is not common practice to refuse to use gift certificates for tips, to refuse to give change, or to refuse refunds. At the very least, the teams of the gift certificate should be posted online, so that purchasers know exactly what they are getting before they buy. The only information they provide after purchase is the following" For assistance with your gift card or information about refunds and returns, please contact Polo Grill at 772-231`-4090." From that statement, a logical person would think that you can get refunds or returns, not that when you call, you will be told, "Sorry. You're out of luck."Can you help?
