Discovery Point Child Development Center #41 Response

I would like to point out to everyone reading this a couple of important facts. These kids were in our care for a total of roughly 66 hours! I was forced to disenroll this family so that we could provide the proper care to the rest of the children in the classroom (which at the time only had 12 kids per day in average attendance with TWO teachers). Perhaps the most important fact is that this parent wrote us an extensive note about her oldest child's behavioral concerns at the time of enrollment. Some of the quotes verbatim are: "He is a space invader-he doesn't know how to interact". "He can be rough with other kids". "He doesn't know how to share" and "ignore the scream, cry unless he is bleeding". "He has peed on himself on purpose at home" when he is "not getting his way". All these warnings sadly came to fruition, which is why I informed you that we would have to disenroll your son. Not only was he throwing himself to the ground and urinating intentionally numerous times a day, but he also constantly bullied the other kids by knocking over their toys, ripping items from their hands, pushing them and throwing himself on others, etc. This behavior was aggressive, constant and well documented by my staff. It lead to several classmates crying on a frequent basis. We also received at least one parent complaint specifically naming this child and his behavior. Her son had said he didn't want to return to Discovery Point because this child had been "mean all the time". We ended up having to call this other parent and informing her that the other child was no longer in our care.
In the few days your oldest son was here, he intentionally soiled himself around 25-30 times. At one point, this parent had to send a friend in with additional clothes as he had soiled 5 pairs of clothing in less than 5 hours. My teachers also noted that on at least one occasion, several urine- soaked bagged-clothing had been left behind. We have NEVER used ammonia in the cleaning of our building. For you to say that we poured ammonia on any child's clothing is clearly defamatory and perhaps libel. I realize most rational people reading this will know what urine-soaked clothing smell like.
Lastly, I will quickly address your nonsense of your child's "tilted head". You informed my infant staff (the day before your last day), if they could hold him so his head could lean the other direction. They happily agreed to do so. Obviously, this "condition" developed long before the few days he spent in our care.
In closing, you said, "take a look at the population they serve". "Are they being discriminatory to hang on to their license?". This makes absolutely no sense at all. What is wrong with the population that we serve? We love the population that we serve. We have the most wonderful families, staff and children in our care. Our backgrounds are diverse in every way, yet we all want what's best for our children. We have provided tremendous care for every type of child you can imagine. We do draw the line when a child's tantrums, intentional peeing on themselves and bullying has a negative effect on the other children enrolled in this private preschool.

They then labeled him autistic and a bully. He was not disenrolled, I pulled both of my children from their "care."
Please read the center's response. It has been said that his behavior is "well documented". They provided me with no documentation, just anecdotal evidence about his behavior. Nothing on paper (for me to give to a neurologist). The center director said to me that no one had ever asked for documentation before, and I provided an abc chart for them to use, so that we could determine what the triggers for the tantrums were. It was never used.
I had to express to the staff to alternate arms when feeding. I had to tell them to do that. It is not standard practice to alternate feeding sides at this site.
My 4 year old son is now labeled an "bullly" by these people (Libel). I was never made aware of these allegations. Being a victim of bullying in my past, and being a certified teacher, I would have never had allowed this.
Any person with a nose can tell the difference between urine and cleaning strength ammonia.
25-30 accidents is indicative of the lack of documentation.
Thankfully, both of my sons are in a healthy, accredited facility and are thriving.
It is clear that my 4 year old in particular was not cared for or loved with their overwhelming "experience".
Please do your own research about providers. I wasn't surprised about what I found when I researched this facility.

With no formal education background and no continuing education, we were allowing people with there "experience" care for our children. I explained everything about the difficulties with my oldest, they accepted my money. Instead of providing real education that includes behavior and social-emotional, they gave him a label "autism", poured water and ammonia on his clothes to prove accidents, and then fraudulently charged my account. "Real Professionals".
I wanted my sons to be a part of their family.
This is the treatment we received.
