I’m filing this complaint because the workers at the Lincoln Cemetery damaged my father’s grave and cracked the headstone when they buried another person in front of his gravesite (see attached photos). When I visited my father’s gravesite two months prior the headstone was intact and not damaged. However, when my cousin visited the gravesite of my father and uncle, who are buried next to each other on June 24, 2022, she noticed the cracked headstoned and immediately alerted the grounds Manager, *** ********** who told her that the headstone is typically covered for 100 years, and he would submit a work order for a repair. I contacted *** ********** on June 28th who assured me that the work order had been submitted, then he contacted my cousin a few days later stating that “this is a family issue and not Lincoln’s responsibility” On June 30th I went to Lincoln Cemetery and spoke with *** ********** who told me that the best the company is willing to do is a 50/50 split on the cost to replace the headstone. I rejected his offer and explained that his workers damaged the gravesite and headstone, and the family shouldn’t be expected to pay for their negligence. *** ********** then informed me to go inside the office to schedule an appointment with someone who can help me further. However, the receptionist didn’t have a clue how to help and summoned one of the counselors to assist me further. *** ********* **** was able to pull the original contract that I requested and companied me to view the damaged headstone and she told me that the owner most likely would not cover the cost for a headstone that was placed in 1970. I reminded her that my father’s headstone was damaged by their workers and age shouldn’t matter. Nevertheless, she agreed and stated she would contact the owner regarding my claim. *** **** contacted me today, July 21, 2022, to advise that the owner will not repair the headstone due to age, discounting the fact that they cause the damage. Very shady!
