I went into Village Podiatry for an ingrown toe surgery. Before proceeding with the surgery, I specifically asked ************** (with my wife right next to me) how much the surgery would be with my insurance plan that I have. He stated $278 and I agreed to proceed with the surgery. When I went to check out, (also with my wife standing right next to me) the lady at the front asked if we wanted to self pay or go through insurance. I stated that I have a high deductible plan but that if it would be $278 through insurance, Im fine with that too and it could go toward my deductible. She stated that it would be the same amount with or without insurance and we could do it that way. A week or so later I get a bill from insurance for almost $700. So I call the Village podiatrist billing department on 7/27 to get no response for 2 weeks. So I call again today 8/10, and they put a request for call back from ***. I get a call from a No Caller ID from *** which is sketchy by itself. But then *** proceeds to tell me that he had a conversation with the doctor and front desk staff and he said the front desk staff told him that she told us we dont control what insurance charges. This is completely false and very unethical practice. Who would choose to pay $700 vs $278? Of course I would have paid the $278 on the spot. I want to make sure this doesnt happen to others and will be filing a formal complaint.

On December 23, 2021, I went into Village Podiatry (the ********** location) for a new patient office visit. I advised the front desk that I had met my family out-of-pocket *** for my insurance -- despite that, they insisted on collecting a copay, with an employee on the phone snarkily down talking to me as if I didn't understand the difference between my deductible and my out-of-pocket ***. Attached find a record of the payment and the statement from my insurance company that, as I stated, I had no patient responsibility.I have been more patient with them than they were with me. It is February, and I am still waiting for a refund of the copay they improperly collected. I will also be filing a complaint with Anthem against Village Podiatry.Needless to say, I won't be back.
