    Pattern of Complaint:

According to information in BBB files, Bitcoin Depot has a pattern of complaint alleging billing or collection issues.

Specifically, consumers allege they are charged a 20% transaction fee when the atm states a $3 flat rate transaction fee. Consumers claim they place money in the atm to be surprised when the final amount deposited into their bitcoin wallet is 20% less than the original amount deposited.

On May 15, 2023, BBB sent correspondence to Bitcoin Depot to request their voluntary cooperation in eliminating the pattern of complaint; however, Bitcoin Depot failed to respond.

This aspect of the Busines Profile will be updated once additional information becomes available.

    Advertising Review:

BBB's role in the marketplace is to ensure the public's confidence in advertising and promote trust in business.

In BBB's general review of an ad on:

BBB reviews advertising on accredited and non-accredited businesses in every medium. Our request is based on BBB's Code of Advertising Standards that can be found at:

    https://www.bbb.org/code-of-advertising

BBB's requests are based on these specific codes:

The complete BBB Code of Advertising may be viewed online at https://www.bbb.org/code-of-advertising. For reference to the standards in question, please see the specific guidelines below:

1.0: Basic Principles of the Code

1.1 The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.

1.2 Advertisements which are untrue, misleading, deceptive, fraudulent, falsely disparaging of competitors, or insincere offers to sell, shall not be used.

1.3 An advertisement as a whole may be misleading by implication, although every sentence separately considered may be literally true.

1.4 Misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements, but by omitting or obscuring a material fact.

We contacted the firm regarding the specific advertising below.

    1. With thousands of locations, we are the largest Bitcoin ATM network in North America.

    29. Subjective Puffery Claims

29.1 Expressions of opinion or personal evaluation of the intangible qualities of a product or service are likely to be considered puffery. Such claims are not subject to the test of truth and accuracy and would not need substantiation.

29.2 Puffery may include statements such as “best food in the world” and “we try harder” as well as other individual opinions, statements of corporate pride, exaggerations, blustering and boasting statements upon which no reasonable buyer would be justified in relying. Puffery also includes general claims of superiority over comparable products that are so vague that it can be understood as nothing more than a mere expression of opinion.

29.3 Ultimately, whether any particular statement or claim is puffery will depend upon the context in which it is used in the advertisement.

On May 17, 2024 I deposited $20,000 at a local Bitcoin Depot. After going through their drilling of where I got this money, they rejected my deposit After a few phone calls, the agreed on a refund. I gave them my info, and they said my money would be on hold for 60 days with taking out 10% for their expenses. And I would receive a check within 7-10 business days after.I agreed because I need my money back. The 60 days have past and the check I was supposed to receive within the time limit has also past.I have been texting them for days, and the give me an excuse that they are back logged with refunds.Ever answer I get from them is all the same I really need some help.Thank you

They use deceptive marketing and business practices to lure you into using the *** as a quick and easy way to buy bitcoin and then they steal your money by only showing you the balance you are buying in bitcoin (which is volatile and changes from day to day) and give you a small amount. Someone needs to regulate these guys or throw them in jail. What a horrible thing to do to people.

      Bitcoin Depot Response

      06/07/2024

When a transaction is initiated at one of our kiosks, the amount of cryptocurrency that will be received in exchange for the amount of cash inserted is clearly displayed on the screen. This amount includes all applicable fees and prior to processing the customer is required to agree to our terms and conditions and confirm the transaction. The ability to cancel the transaction is available at any time prior to reaching the confirmation screen. More information regarding our fees can be found at BitcoinDepot.com/terms. We are sorry to learn that this customer was dissatisfied with their experience and would like to invite the customer to contact us directly at ********************************* so that we may address the concern. Thank you!
