    On ****** *, 2022 I got a Root Canal from Dr O****. Previously I had contacted CSRA Endodontics because my dentist said I had an abscess and needed a root canal and suggested Dr. O**** because I had been there previously. The office then said he could work me in his schedule. I asked what the charges should be and was told $1495. I asked if they accepted ****** ********* dental insurance and she responded yes and I said that was great because my insurance would pay 40% of the charges; however, when I checked out the charges were $1655 and I would have to pay $1296. The office admin lady then informed me they did not accept ****** ********* as Primary Insurance. Why didn't she inform me of this on my initial call when I said they would pay 40% of the charges. This is an unethical practice that everyone should know about. I would have never made the appointment if I knew they did accept ****** ********* as a primary insurance.

    **. ****** was charged $1655 and not $1495 because we also placed a permanent filling in the access we made through his crown. That is a separate fee from the root canal. If we had not done it for him he would have had to have gone to his general dentist for the procedure and would have been charged a fee from them. It was offered for this fee to be removed and he declined. He is misunderstood about what he was told on the phone concerning his insurance. We do accept his insurance but, we are not preferred providers for them. This means that the patient is responsible for any fees not covered by insurance and will be collected from the patient. And although this information may have been confused in the initial phone call, we do calculate the estimated out of pocket expense and discuss with patient BEFORE treatment is started. **. ****** was informed of his part within $100. **. ****** also signed a consent form that explained our policy regarding insurance coverage before being treated. Ultimately, it is the patients responsibility to know who is in network for their insurance company. We make every effort to inform the patient what their fee will be and estimate their insurance benefit, just as we did with **. ******.
