On April 26, 2023 SQ.1 was hired to work on an existing deck. I purchased all materials except the handrails. The work to be completed was:Install bamboo deck boards Demo/replace 14 steps and landing $3740 Replace two 6x6 support posts and replace two joists $600 Build cable handrails for deck and stairs labor and materials $850 Pick up from 84 lumber and delivery of materials to job site and permit fee $300 The total estimate was $5490.00 I paid half up front -- $2745.00.There was an additional support post needed for $335.I asked them if they could make the corners a 45 degree angle instead of 90 degrees and they said they could for $500 I paid them a total of $3580.I went on vacation for 3 weeks while they worked on the deck. They had explicit instructions how I wanted the deck boards laid out and the handrail posts notched and attached. When I returned, I was shocked to find the deck about half completed but nothing was done to my specifications. I asked them to leave while I figured out what to do. They never pulled a permit for the job, although I told them multiple times that it was required according to the city.I submitted the proper paperwork, obtained a permit, and had the job inspected. The hand rail posts failed inspection. They were not installed per the international residential building code. They were over-notched and were now unusable. The 45 degree angles that they made were done incorrectly and had to be redone. The deck boards were installed incorrectly as well. The deck boards are 6 feet long. My deck is 23 ft wide. I told them to let the extra foot hang off the deck, alternating sides to produce a nice pattern and only wasting one foot per run. They did not do this and there were 19 boards cut at a length of less than 5 ft. These are now unusable and need to be replaced. The $935 posts/joists they can keep. I want the rest plus ****** - 4 4x6x10 posts ****** - 19 deck boards ****** - 5 hrs my labor $3849.04 refund
