    This past Monday (10/9), my nephew made an appointment to be seen at the ******* location of Georgia Highlands Medical Services. I instructed him to advise at the intake that he would be self-pay. The following is a summary of his experience. I made an appointment over the phone for 3:30 and arrived early to complete the paperwork since I was a new patient. The receptionist took my license while I filled out the paperwork. On the form, I marked student and self-pay. She then asked how I was paying and I said self pay, then she asked my employment status. I said unemployed, Im a student. She asked me how Im supposed to pay if Im unemployed and I said the money in my bank account. Im a student. She said the only way they would see me was if I provided pay stubs or proof of my bank balance. After repeated circular questioning along these lines, I asked her to give me my license back because I was going to leave since shes causing a scene about me being broke in front of the whole waiting room. She refused to give my license back and said that she had to call a manager. I said no maam, give me my license back and I am leaving. She ignored me and called the manager. While she was on the phone, she was holding my license up so I thought she was giving it to me but when I reached to take it, she yanked it away. I was forced to wait another ten minutes for the manager to come. As soon as the manager came in, the receptionist quickly gave me my license back as if she wasnt supposed to have it. I told the manager what happened and that the receptionist repeatedly refused to give me my license back. The manager did not apologize for what happened or address it in any way, she asked if I wanted to do a discount service, and I said no Im leaving and the paperwork with my personal information on it should be shredded because I dont want my information in your system. They did not respond but I was allowed to leave the building.
